KWTH? Two years ago,…read moreI reviewed KBSG http://www.yelp.com/biz/kbsg-oldies-97-3-fm-seattle#hrid:LLMfHS8QC6WjZAUUGIg8dg/query:kbsg . I listened to that station more than any others while driving but I turned it on the other day and it is now a "news talk" radio station. KIRO to be exact. I Googled KBSG to find out what became of my beloved station and found an "Explanation" by the Vice President and Market Manager of Bonneville Seattle. http://www.mynorthwest.com/?nid=106 . He, or whoever wrote that explanation said: "We know there are a significant number of radio listeners who use FM on a daily basis, but may visit the AM dial only sporadically. In addition, we also know that as the music radio landscape has become more and more fragmented, it's clear that there will be a limited available audience for KBSG's music programming." I said, in a feedback email to him: "With all due respect, I believe you are in error and are missing the point here. People listen to AM radio "only sporadically" because it is full of mostly news-talk radio. They listen to FM radio because that's where the music is. If there was anything wrong with KBSG as a music station, it was only that the owners didn't have the foresight to take it to the obvious next level and expand the play list to include both the 50s and 60s. That, and have more tunes in general instead of the same play list over and over and over again. There are still a lot of people who remember the 50s. Another thing I believe is being overlooked here is there are places of business in this area who had KBSG's music going 8 to 10 hours a day without fail. Now they've had to turn to KJR FM, which I predict will now do better than ever. I can only guess that the information that led to this programming change is as incomplete as most news stories and will result in KBSG being just another place for incomplete news stories and for the illinformed to whine. The same old song and dance without songs and dancing." Bonneville International is a Salt Lake City base company and I doubt they know too much about the demographic here. All I've got to say to them is, leave your news-talk radio on the AM dial where it belongs and stop trying to pollute good FM music radio with it! If you are as ticked off about this programming change as I am, I encourage you to click on the above link and send Carl Gardner a comment on how you feel about it.
