Every time I passed I'd see them and so finally, the other day, I went in to investigate. And I think I've found a brand that knows my style - I love the clothing in this place. It's smart, but with a hint of vintage, the fabrics are high quality and the colour schemes are adorable. I.e. there is naught a hint of shocking pink in sight. On this fine sunny Bank Holiday I sought out my coveted pair only to discover I'd left it too late - they had about three pairs left none in my size! Dang. And, to make matters worse, they retail at a massive £45... That's a bit of a number for a pair of trousers. Sadly, as I browsed the other items this became a recurring theme. All the gorgeous tops I longed for were just that little bit too much. Perhaps I'm a skin-flint, but then again, I understand that you are at least paying for a high quality item should you make the spend. Tough decisions. Nonetheless I asked a sales assistant if they had any more in stock, wanting to at least see if they looked as glorious upon my person as they did in store, and she was extremely helpful. Whilst they had none she checked all the other stores in Leeds and found that the shopping plaza had my size. Of course, I trundled over there, and found that they were perfect. But, no. I did not buy - I decided to be sensible and save up my pennies. After all, they are only a pair of trousers, right? To summarise; the clothes herein are gorgeous, expensive, but well tailored and superbly stylish.

The store here, like most Primark locations, always seems really busy no matter what the time of day, meaning queuing seems to take much longer than other clothing shops, which considering the size of the store is quite big with ample space for more staff to work on the checkouts isn't good enough really, I ended up putting my shopping away and leaving as a result of this. - The store was certainly understaffed, or perhaps it was an issue with how the staff were utilised, just not making any sense. I'm not a big fan of Primark as a brand, which interestingly seems to be the case of the other two reviews, but they do sell some decent cheap clothing here, it isn't the best fashion but again does the job, the selection for a store of its' size is OK. It isn't the best, nor the worst Primark store, the waiting time, however, seems to take longer than other stores, with a narrow and uncomfortable queuing system, but still, the store isn't terrible and it's another one of those businesses which warrant an extra star through being a good brand which without it would be a big loss to the city, as despite many flaws the selection is okay, but that only warrants a two-star rating, in my opinion, they need to utilise the staff better, improving the store layout, waiting times and adding more modern, bold features which other larger stores have from Manchester to Newcastle.

Having not ventured into Whistles for some time I was impressed by the pretty fabrics and there were several pairs of trousers I loved, with a stylish casual chic look. Up a wooden staircase reminiscent of a country house is a delightful little set of tiny wooden shelves housing trinkets such as shells, marbles and miniature figurines adding to the vintage charm of the place. The female shop assistant upstairs seemed lovely and friendly, but without any in-your-face well-honed sales techniques and left me feeling comfortable to browse, which I did! Overall a very pleasant experience. I think the clothes in Whistles have a bit of a timeless feel, which is great in the currently trend-obsessed world of high street fashion. They also seem higher quality than found on most of the high street. I saw many items that could appeal to women of all ages as the colour palette was muted and tasteful but still pretty and playful enough to appeal to a younger customer.

W-O-M-A-N woooman... ok pardon my reruns of American sitcom speak that runs through my head as I type. It's a stylish store with equally stylish stock. Nicely laid out, good for perusal, good to poke at the quality and good to see just what exactly is (and I detest this phrase) on trend. I can't quite decide if it's a slightly less expensive copy cat store of the catwalks and runways and what have you, but it's got a certain something that doesn't dip into the pretentious side of style. There are some cute little dresses, and prices for such outfits average at the £100 mark, with jeans hitting an average of £50, and tops around the same. Jackets are obviously on the pricier side of the budget, but I did espy a lovely leather biker jacket for £350. Swings and roundabouts again I do believe. Sizes seem to run from the size 6 to 16, but fashions in this store seem to cater specifically for the heroine chic style. Many fashionistas would cry outrage at the thought of a size 16 walking around in a pair of super skinny jeans. Each to their own again. But with a name like Whistles, it's hard to escape the whistle and flute cockneyism and connotations of men's suits.

Does that mean they have some excellent second-hand high end to low end brand labels? Definitely. Let me explain. It's Horsforth. It's New Road Side, and there's a lovely run of little shops along the road. Along one end you'll see Sophie's Choice snugly tucked in between a couple of establishments, and when you spot it, you must go inside. For starters, the staff. They've always been really lovely. If you want a bit of advice because your male housemate is useless at giving a fashion-related opinion, call on the ladies that work there. Secondly, the clothes are simply great. I've no idea where they source their items, but as I mentioned previously, there's simply a myriad of labels. More importantly, the clothes are really different. Whilst labels aren't something that I worry about, per se, being told I'd picked up a dress that was featured in Vogue for only £49 seems like a true bargain to me. And I left feeling super smugly fashionable to boot. Thirdly, the prices are excellent. I've bought a wee jacket here for £15, and new shoes as well. Dresses seem to range from a tenner upward, though I'd not seen any more that about £70 so you know it won't break the bank to find a real gem either. The only slight issue is that the odd item is marked -I saw one with those fatal deoderant marks, but that is to be expected of second hand items here and there. In any case, it's a fantastic little shop and I'm only glad I don't come to Horsforth more often - I'd be broke! One final note: they're old school and don't have a card machine! Never fear though, there's an ATM just down t' road.

Or is it actually appropriate these days to name a dress agency after a book about the holocaust? I concede, or at least hope, that the owner simply wasn't aware of the implications of the name, as this shop is actually a nice idea. You can come here and hire posh outfits for parties, ideal if you don't want to spend £100 on a wedding outfit you'll never wear again. They've got everything from M&S to designer names, and outfits and accessories to suit a range of budgets. It's just a shame they're either poorly read or have a rather macabre sense of humour.

What a wonderful little shop it is too. It is crammed with independent designer womenswear and it is all stuff I've never seen before. If you want to stand out from the crowd but not in a bad way, this is perfect for you. It isn't the biggest place but it really has some quality stuff. It is fashion but not with your main stream labels. What I also love is that you can get an array of gifts and homeware too. Some real love has been fed into the creation of the shop and it shows. Don't go in expecting to spend very little as it is reasonably expensive but sometimes we should all shell out a little bit on ourselves. I do it often. Lovely shop and very friendly to boot.

Love and care has gone into every display, each garment is wonderfully finger-spaced for easy browsing, items are matched in gently suggested outfits and the lady behind the counter was friendly and chatty. The item that I was particularly in love with was an utterly gorgeous washed leather jacket, in a taupe dusky pink. The leather was tailored with ribbed woven jersey and the design was utterly fantastic. The bottom of the jacket hung down in a beautifully flattering draped cotton affect and the leather was utterly soft to the touch. None of that plastic feel, and, it was on sale for about £120 - so so cheapl! There was also a number of delightful accessories, making this shop the highlight of my Ilkley visit. Gorgeous.

The Clarence Dock based branch of Joy appeals to me even more so. It is an outlet shop and the prices are dramatically reduced, mostly between 50% and 70%. The store stocks exactly the same labels, but the release date of the clothes are slightly behind. I have become quite savvy, by checking what items attract me in the shop in The Light, waiting (fairly) patiently for a while, and then snapping them up at a fraction of the price at Clarence Dock - victory is mine! This particular Joy is cavernous, stocking clothes for men and women, with a home and accessories section attached. The decor of the shop is consistently interesting. When I was in recently, the light fittings were disguised with white bendy tubes, and there were butterflies everywhere. On that occasion, I managed to discover a dress that was totally ideal for wedding I am attending this year. It fitted my specifications perfectly, and was reduced form £100 to £30. If you are hunting for bargains in general, or for a specific event, Joy at Clarence Dock is bound to fit the bill.

As a former inhabitant of the Corn Exchange, I was relieved to discover that it had survived the inevitable financial upheaval of the move. Situated on The Headrow, it faces out of The Light and is difficult to miss. Ark caters for both men and women, and I am constantly impressed with their range. When I first noticed the shop, some evil preconception fairies whispered falsities in my ear in regards to their supposed exclusivity. The reality is the inverse of this, there are a variety of dainty dresses and cardigans lined up next to stylish jeans and power jackets, all at very affordable prices. The labels that are stocked at this store are amongst my favourites, namely Vila, Motel Rocks and Layers. Recently I became the proud owner of a black dress with white polka dots, costing £20. Although it is rather conservative for my personal style, there is a gold thread running through it, and teamed with brightly coloured tights, the cut of the dress flatters the figure. I also became fond of a sheer body with a dramatic floral pattern, I have a niggling feeling that we may be having an imminent reunion. The male population are also supplied with choice in abundance. Plenty of Gio-Goi and Franklin and Marshall jumpers sit alongside Carhartt jackets and Supreme Being garb, to name but a few of the labels on offer. I noticed that there were a particularly large amount of checked shirts for men in store recently. Every colour, and every check size was on offer. I…read morehad noticed this new shop had opened up in what used to be known as dying world (Was called Living World but the goldfish usually lasted the night if you were lucky) and needed something for my sons birthday present so I thought I'd check it out. I had been told by my step daughter that it wasn't very good but I and my kids have slightly different tastes in clothing, WE ARE NOT CHAVS (oops, sorry Louise, I know you're not a chav, just dress like one lol) so in I went. It's not bad at all really and does actually stock plenty for chavs so I've no idea why she didn't like it! I thought there was a good selection to suit all tastes really although I must add I was only shopping in the Mens department as I didn't think my 18 year old son would be impressed with a flowery dress. The prices were good, the layout was good and no one kept bugging me (which is why I like TK maxx) with the age old "can I help you sir" well you couldn't the last time you asked me 2 minutes ago!! Overall I went in with low expectations and came out smiling and with some change in my pocket, good shop :)
