This little playground has quite a set up. It's right next to a few tennis courts so it could be a case of 'fun for the whole family' depending on the ages of your children and if you were happy for them to play relatively unsupervised. It's quite a nice area, nestled In between the trees but the actual playground itself doesn't look like it would get too much shade. This is one place that could be a 'family fitness' day out :-) *Usually for areas so close to tennis courts there's a 'no dogs' rule* *No immediate drinking fountain but there could be something ties in with the tennis courts area*

Five stars is a BIG…read morecall but this playground is Reserve is better than most free outdoor area's and is about the best of its kind until you get to the much bigger Parks like Jubilee Park or St Kilda. Best of all and what it makes it 5 star worthy, it really does have all the age groups covered. Plus it's a place you can organise a whole day out becuase it has toilets! And GREAT toilets. So good I have done a separate review just on the toilet as it is so worthy!!!! There is a sign that says no hard ball play on the area though so cricket is out but with tennis balls it would be okay. They also have a basketball area and tennis court. On top of that there isa fantastic playground with heaps of different area's and activites as well as a Liberty Swing. It is a fully fenced swing made with wheelchair access. It's the most fantastic thing I have ever seen at a playground. It's so good to see children with disabilities being included with a special swing even they can use as well as disabled toilet facilities. They have BBQ's, plenty of seating in the shade of the trees and some more seating under a shelter in the centre of the park. Drinking fountains work! Rubbish bins on site as well. Only minor confusion about this park is that there is a doggy bag dispenser in it, I have seen heaps of people walking through here with dogs and there is a sign at the park itself that says dogs not allowed within 2 metres of playground. Yet when I look up the Council's website it says dogs are prohibited on this Reserve. Then why contradict yourselves with doggy bags and signs??????

Not to mention the large lawn area where you could spread out a picnic rug or set up a friendly game of footy. The playground itself is pretty much the older style 'metal and wood' playgrounds which are so rife through the Southern area. The playground is on one side of the tennis courts and there's a large lawn area (not as big as an oval) on the other which has a drinking fountain. Tennis was my Sport de Premiere for many a year, and I even returned from my self imposed retirement for a couple of seasons a few years back. Of all of the community Tennis courts around my area, the Gilbert Street court would be my favourite. Is it a good surface? Nah, not particularly. I mean, it is ok, but there are definately better around. Does it have a bbq, play ground etc.? Nup....it is just a court......but it is a) on its own, b) has its own car park, c) has plenty of shade (huge gum trees) and d) is right on the river. For me this is the perfect community Tennis Court! You don't have to chase balls, worry about other peoples games and those who know where it is (not that many) just drive on rather than wait for you to finish! Not the most kid friendly (they would probably be alright down the river....glug glug) but I don't have kids, so I really don't care!

There's a rotunda area that you could set up with table and chairs although there is a table/chair in the sun just outside of the rotunda. There is also a BBQ in that same area. There is a lot of space here so if you brought bikes, they would definitely get some use, although the area is quite hilly so little ones might need to be supervised. The shaded playground is a great set up. There's a lot of different equipment for older children and would suit Primary School aged children. In my view, it's a shame the two playgrounds aren't closer together, at least on the same hill. There are toilets at the beginning of the park...not too far for little children to walk but it is right next to the car park. As you would be able to see from the photos (if you squint) there isn't much to the playground and there was a family having lunch right in front of it so I didn't get any close ups. The whole area is about tennis, tennis and more tennis. If your children don't like it, they can play on the playground but I can't promise they would be entertained for a long period of time. There is however, a TOILET BLOCK!!!! And I'm sure you would be able to find a drinking fountain (or at least a tap) nearby. If you like tennis, this is the place for you. If your children don't like tennis, this will STILL be the place for you but not for them. :-)

New playground equipment, plenty of well maintained grass, fountain,…read moretrees and under cover areas, bbqs, huge grass area for kicking a ball, toilet block... it's not fenced in but surrounded by hedges, trees, buildings and car park so it's fairly safe. Right next to the beautiful river with ducks. Unfortunate that the deli across the road has closed (anyone want to buy & run a deli???! Haha). My toddler and my 8 month old both loved it. Seems quite popular!
