We both thought they did a great job and our pedicures lasted a long time. Unfortunately when I came by myself yesterday, I had a very different experience. I called ahead to reserve an appointment at 4pm just to be safe. The gentleman who worked there answered my call and just agreed to my appointment time and was about to hang up, I said don't you want my name? He said what's your name? I told him, and he said ok see you at 4. When I arrived at the nail shop the man who answered the phone was at the first nail desk closest to the door working on a customer. There were two other women nail techs working on customers who just looked at me as I walked in. No greeting. The man didn't look up and said "can I help you?" I responded saying I have a 4pm pedicure appointment. He said "ok pick your color" never looking at me once. I picked my color and took a seat. I did not wait long before one of the ladies came to get me. I do not have much to comment on related to her pedicure on my feet. She didn't ask me if I wanted my toenails cut which usually is common practice, but other than that, the pedicure was pretty standard. She made some errors with paint on my skin but cleaned it up and the finished product is fine. She made no conversation whatsoever, though I cannot confirm or deny whether or not that was due to her limited English because I only heard her speak another language. The disturbing part of this visit was the conversation between a white woman and one of the nail techs right next to me. That nail tech was definitely trying to keep up conversation with the white woman and at at one point the white woman mentioned that she didn't realize she had this coming Thursday off. (Due to Juneteenth) The nail tech, who is an Asian woman, asked what's the holiday, the white woman fumbled for an answer and ultimately googled to find out what the holiday was and what it represented. The Asian woman asked "are you getting paid for the holiday?" The white woman said yes. And the nail tech responded "well as long as you're getting paid who cares that's great enjoy yourself!" As a Black woman who is literally sitting in the chair right next to them as they had this conversation- and NO ONE had the self awareness to recognize how deeply offensive that exchange was!! #1 for both of these women, one of whom is of a marginalized identity, to be oblivious to WHAT Juneteenth is, is disgraceful. #2 after they both "learned" that the holiday was about the eradication of the enslavement of Black people, and then to say "who cares as long as you're getting paid" is the most disrespectful and disgusting thing a fellow woman of color could possibly say. And to say it in front of a Black woman. Her deep need for white acceptance made her oblivious to how terribly ignorant she looks. I hope she reads this review and I hope she understands she has betrayed herself and her sister in this world. I do not recommend this business to anyone, but especially not for any people of color as they clearly have no respect or desire for our patronage. There are plenty of other options and I hope this business reaps the karma it is sowing.

After doing some research, I chose Chic Nail Lounge because it had great reviews, especially for eyebrow services. I booked an appointment for an eyebrow and lip wax. When I arrived, I explained to the technician that this was my first time getting my eyebrows waxed, that I usually get them threaded, and that I was nervous. I specifically asked for a simple clean-up--not shaping or thinning, just a light touch-up. Unfortunately, my experience did not go as expected. After completing the first eyebrow, I immediately noticed that it was much thinner than I have ever had in my life--far beyond a "clean-up." It felt like most of my eyebrow had been removed. This was really upsetting, especially since I had clearly communicated what I wanted. The lip waxing was also not done carefully. There were still noticeable hairs left behind, and the waxing itself felt very harsh. The next day, after washing my face, I noticed that I had developed two small scars on my lip area, which I believe were caused by the waxing process. To their credit, I was not charged for the eyebrow service, and I only paid for the lip wax. I do appreciate that gesture. However, I am now left waiting for my eyebrows to grow back and dealing with irritation and scarring on my lip. Overall, I was really disappointed with my experience. As someone new to waxing and new to the area, I was hoping for a more careful and attentive service--especially after explaining my concerns upfront. My first impression was that the salon looked cluttered and while it didn't look dirty per se it was clearly rundown. The person who greeted me was not wearing a mask despite letting me into the locked salon. In fact, she didn't put the mask on for several minutes despite being within 6 feet of me. I decided to treat myself to an upgraded pedicure that came with a mask and hot stone massage for $55 dollars. My normal salon charges $45 and includes all of the above plus a hot towel wrap and additional 10 minute leg/foot massage and usually takes roughly an hour to complete. My service at La chic was complete in just under 40 minutes. The hot stone massage was seriously disappointing (and the only "massage" lasted just 3-4 minutes), the tools did not appear to be sterilized, and my polish looked like something I could have done at home. This was my first professional pedicure in over a year and quite frankly it felt like a waste of money. I will not be returning.

I asked my doctor why collagen and biotin weren't helping my nails, and she said she could see where a drimmel was used without me even mentioning it. None of these tools should ever be used on natural nails.
