I feel a little bad rating this only 3 stars because I suspect that most of my issues fall into the…read morecategory of "what do you expect, this is Mexico!" The staff is friendly and helpful, grounds are lovely and breakfast is large and delicious. The negatives are all sort of petty but they add up. Our room had a number of problems--shower took 3-4 mins to heat up, and mid-shower (3 mins in) slowed to a trickle and stopped for a full minute before gradually restarting. The toilet stuck, so unfortunately we wasted a lot of water when we flushed and then went out for the day. Some of the outlets and light switches were inoperable and the WiFi didn't work (unable to join), though there was another network was available in the dining room. Breakfast was tasty and served by a sweet woman, but very very slow (we suspected that she was waiting and bussing the tables and doing all the food prep herself!). That gave us more time to use the Internet in the dining room, but I'm glad we didn't have a pressing engagement. So all in all, I'd say go in with low expectations and you might be pleasantly surprised.

I believe it only has about 17 rooms or so, it is so beautiful, clean beautiful rooms, green gardens and very private and great service. I stayed in a junior suite facing the pool.. it's spacious, has a microwave, mini fridge ceiling fans .. very comfortable bed. The hotel feels more like a mini resort .. Recently took a book making class and was looking for presents and for some notebooks for myself…read more I am retired daily newspaper editor and photojournalist and always looking for neat notebooks to jot notes or give as gifts to fellow jotters. And I came across a nice selection and got a cork covered one which was very unique. There was a good selection of women's clothes and other local items. I like scarves. I have a collection of football ones, keffiyehs, and others scarves that keep dust out of my faces as well as provide warmth on our chilly mountains morns. There was one scarf that was brown and kinda natural colors that I added to my collection. This store is like so many little niche tiendas in San Miguel where there are an array of products, friendly staff and good vibes.

They have operated this store here for ages and have an impeccable reputation among locals and gringos alike. If you walk into the store, don't stop at the front. There is room after room of quality clothing. Each room is a fresh surprise. Again, the best honest and most helpful people ever! (I just did all my Christmas shopping here!)

The woman in the store was unbothered when we entered and she literally was sitting there doing nothing. For the record there were no other customers in the store at the time. I had to greet her for her to even greet me verbally and that was the extent of her interaction with us. So although I found a couple of shirts I wanted to buy I opted to spend my money elsewhere particularly when nearly every other store in San Miguel is so warm and hospitable. Buyer beware.
