I looked back at her email, and when I mentioned to her "hey wait, it doesn't say anything about a portion being non refundable or an hourly rate, otherwise we would have clarified what your hourly rate was. Right!? why didn't you put it in your email summary of the agreed terms after our call?" Her response was "I'm a bit offended". Offended about what!? That was a very childish response! I feel like most of them pretend to…read moreaspire to a higher calling, but are actually just very ambitious people who want to make the most money possible, working as hard as they can to do as little as they can for anyone but themselves. Call me a cynic! But Dan was great! I'll preface this by saying this was my first time ever having to deal with a lawyer, as well as my first time being the executrix of a deceased family member. I was on guard by default, absolutely without a clue where to start, and had a number of factors complicating the estate.   Dan was incredibly supportive from start to finish. He was easy to reach, often staying at the office very late and sometimes answering my emails on weekends. He made himself very accessible by phone or email, usually getting back to me within hours, and if he could not, he let me know when he would. Absolutely IMPECCABLE communication.  His assistants and front desk staff were all just as easy to communicate with and extremely polite. He also has a printed check list for my type of case that helped me to keep track of what I had to do and when. And his rates were reasonable. He even offers free consults, and he spent (I think) way too much time listening to me yammer away on the phone before I gave him a cent. I mean, what more can you ask for? Dan is also human. A genuinely nice person. After everything was taken care of, we shared a hug and I did NOT burst into flames (like I assume happens with other attorneys). My case was legally straightforward, but emotionally strenuous. Dan rolled with me and supported me in a way that I find only people with heart and an absolutely excellent sense of humor can.
