The food was good as is the ambiance. I had the lobster roll and it was just okay. I asked for a different side and was told with a sigh "I'll check". The server didn't seem to be having a good day and my friends noted that as well. They both did, however, enjoy their dinners. Also, be aware of snarky hostesses. We made a reservation for 430 pm on a Thursday and arrived about 10 minutes late. We did let the restaurant know we were on our way. When we were seated, the hostess said "Just a reminder we have a 15 minute grace period on reservations." Ummm...the restaurant had plenty of open tables - I could understand if people were waiting to be seated. They weren't. Five long years later, I'm able to revisit one of my favourite restaurants and I was not disappointed. Having made reservations for 7:30pm, we arrived early and waited for our table to be ready. We made a note in our reservation for a booth on the fireplace side, and the woman (host) worked hard to make sure that happened. After sitting down, we placed in a couple appetizers. The bacon-wrapped scallops were delightful. The bacon, crispy and the scallops incredibly tender. Served with a side of drawn butter, but these were delicious on their own. As for the loaded potato puffs, we received a generous number of puffs, and each one was also very tasty. The sriracha ranch sour cream was the cherry on top. For mains, we opted in for the prime rib, and Delmonico "cowboy" cut. The prime rim was incredibly tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. Served with a phenomenal au jus, this is the best prime rib I've ever had. I can confidently say that about the Delmonico steak as well. This 20 oz. center-cut, bone-in was grilled to the perfect requested medium-rare. Seasoned perfectly, tender and juicy. Although I didn't care much for the gorgonzola cheese sauce, the steak was amazing. We also ordered a side of lobster tail. This was also incredibly tender and really brought the meals together. To end all things, we ordered their creme brulee served in a chocolate shell. This was a great dessert, although I would have preferred the custard to be firmer, and less chocolate sauce overall. I found the generous amount of chocolate sauce on the bottom of the plate, and on top of the creme brulee, on top of the chocolate shell they're served in to be over the top. Nevertheless, we enjoyed this dessert. I want to point out, all the staff members including the owner was very kind and welcoming. From the initial host to our server Lauren, to her boss who came around to ask us how everything was, the staff are very hospitable. Add in a warm and cozy dining room area with a fireplace, this is easily a 10/10 experience for us. We will make it a point to revisit more often and not years in between. read more

Made reservations for 8:30 - just to note that the place closes at 9 and on opentable, their last table is at 8:45, but we didn't feel rushed at all during our meal. For anyone interested in the prime rib, I highly recommend getting the 20oz (look at the picture!!) because this was massive and could easily feed two people, especially considering it comes with a side. My only regret is ordering my own meal (the Sheridan) and not splitting the prime rib with my BF. Luckily our leftovers made a great second meal. We also tried the garlic bread which was great, and I have to give a shoutout to the free bread that came at the beginning of our meal, because the sweet butter on the side was to die for. Also, love that our servers came to ask if we wanted more bread (we declined because we knew we ordered a ton of food). Finally, please get the raspberry margarita. What a treasure this restaurant is. Our server Candace was friendly knowledgeable and funny. She made our night special. The pork chop with maple bourbon glaze on a bed of buttery sweet potatoes was exceptional. Hubby got the Delmonico cowboy steak grilled the way he likes it. We finished with pumpkin cheesecake. Tried this spot while staying at the lake house. The service was really good. Upon sitting down it took a few minutes for a waitress to come. They brought out 2 glasses and a pitcher of water which I loved because we didn't have to keep asking for more. I ordered a mixed berry drink which was delicious! For starters we ordered the French onion soup and the meatballs. Both were really good!! We then ordered the filet mignon steak with mashed potatoes and a Cesar salad. The mashed potatoes and salad were delicious, but the steak was mediocre. I didn't enjoy it, however my friend loved it. I thought the flavor was bad. For dessert we got the caramel custard cups. New Year's Eve dinner with family. Reservations were made about three weeks prior and an additional person added days before. Because of large portions they were able to split a salad and an entree for us. The Mediterranean diet is easily accommodated with a few twerks. The filet mignon was incredibly tender and delicious. Calamari was almost perfect, a tad soft not crispy. Our waitress absolutely perfect! She had a beautiful smile and seemed very happy in her job. She was very accommodating! Nolan's. Y'all! I just don't know. Let's start with the positive. Few years back, the original (at this location) burned down. If was very sad. It's just one of the places you remember from as far back as high school. It was the place you took family when they came to visit. It was just a nice little place. They have since rebuilt..:as many already know this. The new place is immaculate. It's very very nice. Very spacious, very clean, beautifully decorated. It really is a wonderful environment. The new build tho...also brought those new prices on their plates. So if you've been to Canandaigua, you know it's a very small city. It's very nice tho. Very clean, on the lake, it's definitely cared for. Any small town on a beautiful lake like Canandaigua Lake should have a nice restaurant or two. Nolan's is one of those places. I'm a simple customer. I really don't ask for much. 99% of the time I go out to eat I order like 3 things. 1) steak 2) pasta 3) Caesar salad. And lemme tell you when a place has prices like Nolan's and being as cheap as I am..I order a salad. I also look at ... am I in the mood for all the salt in pasta and possibly steak. Usually not. So...the salad it is. The waitress was very very nice. So this is not a complaint against her. When I order a salad anywhere, I always ALWAYS ask for the dressing on the side. Reason being: when the restaurant puts it on the salad ... they absolutely DROWN the salad in it! I have yet to find a place who gets it right. It's like they take a small bottle of dressing, pour it on the salad and throw it around in a salad tossed (HA! Tossing salad lol. I'm such a child hahaha) I asked her to please please make sure the dressing was on the side. I reiterated it 2, maybe 3 times and told her my reason. Salad shows up...dressing is mixed in. Fail. Booo! Noooo! Ok, I will admit, she did offer to take it back. As much as this absolutely drove me crazy, I was at dinner with 5 friends and didn't wanna be "that guy" to my friends and/or to the waitress. She apologized for it. However, it's something I couldn't finish bc as picky of an eater as I am, the caeser dressing has a bite to it. Some more than others. Eating a leaf of romaine completely drenched in it...triggers my gag reflexes lol. Again, I know I'm ridiculous for this ... well to some. I just think at a place as nice as Nolan's, as expensive as Nolan's (salad was like $28 I believe...give or take a dollar or two) this is something so simple that the kitchen wouldn't get wrong. Again, yes, she offered to take it back, but I don't want to be an annoying as-hole to anyone especially over a salad. All my friends said they would have definitely handed it back. Who knows, if I did, they would have had a secret group text later on about me and my weird salad habits hahaha! Everyone should know that Nolan's is a very very nice restaurant. Yes, it's crazy overpriced, but it's still nice. It'd be nicer if these restaurants that are "on the lake" had an actual view of the lake lol. I can see how this review would be weird. My complaint is minor all while saying how nice Nolan's is. I mean, ok, if yall have been! Yall know it's super nice. This was my first time there (repeating myself here) since the prior one burned down. I loved the atmosphere, the ambiance, whatever you wanna call it. It's upscale, but had a very homey feel to it. Would have been cool to see it decked out for Christmas. Not sure what else to say haha. Would I return? Yes, of course I would. Staying at the Lakehouse and decided to try it since it was close walking distance for family and offered another dining option. Staff was friendly and the building seemed newer and clean. The atmosphere was great but very loud. Immediately we smelled the seedoils coming out the hood vent smells just like Applebees. Food has that Sysco or PFG vibe. Compared the steaks from the rose tavern and definitely the wood fired grill was far superior in quality and taste. Overall cost was comparable to the Rose Tavern. Very limited options for a Person with seed oil allergies or celiac disease. Overall the food was just below average and didn't justify the exorbitant pricing. read more

My wife and I decided to partner with Nolan's for our rehearsal dinner. The event staff were very attentive and good with communication in the months leading up to the event. Even up to a couple days before the event, they were very accommodating when a couple people dropped out of the dinner. Nolan's set us up in one of their beautiful back rooms to put on our event. They were also nice enough to put up a picture up on the tv for our dinner that read "Eli and Sam's rehearsal dinner". The staff were also very accommodating allowing our guests to go out to the bar to order alcoholic drinks, seeing we went with just the water and soda package. There was a little mix-up at the start of dinner, with the food sitting out for a little bit, and us having to ask if we could start. As for food, we choose the Caesar salad, roasted vegetables, penne pasta with red sauce, chicken Parmesan, and steak with a chimichurri sauce. The salad was well dressed and the lettuce had a great crunch to it. The roasted vegetables were cooked just right, and had a good variety of vegetable to it. The pasta was absolutely delicious, with melted cheese and ricotta spots on top. The pasta also had the perfect amount of sauce on it. The chicken parmesan was nice and crispy with some melty cheese on top. Now on to the star of the show, the steak with the chimichurri sauce on it. The steak was cooked perfectly with a texture that melted in your mouth. The sauce was good and not too potent as chimichurri can sometimes be. I think I went back for thirds of this steak... yes it was that good. The staff were very attentive and switched out the food as it was getting low. As for desert, Nolan's was amazing and special ordered lemon blueberry cheesecake for us. This cake was to die for. The wonderful lemon flavor, with the cold tartness of the blueberry with each bite, and the nice crispy crust... what I would do to have a piece at this moment. All of our guests raved for days about how nice the restaurant was and how GOOD the food was. We are so happy we chose Nolan's to put on this event, and we will keep coming back. read more

Food was ok, some things hit or miss or just good. Tuna katsu special was nice, with classic expected flavors but well cooked. Crab cake was very good. Mushrooms were a bit too water logged and not as flavorful as we hoped. Plenty of other items well-liked, it's a popular place for many! Service was friendly but a bit talkative and longer winded and actual drink and dinner service took some time, so it unfortunately wasn't the best experience but truly kind people. Prices were very fair, if not more fair than other comparable places. Reservation process is not suitable for the type of restaurant (you're charged if less people show up, even for a 'regular' size table (not a special accommodation table-wise)), though will give credit that they are upfront about the process. But it's a bit much, especially for the area. Coming from people very used to making reservations where you're charged much more, $50-100, if you cancel or drop people. That makes sense for some places, but not here. Had an off putting effect on some, that made the restaurant seem out of touch or not self-aware. read more

Seated on their back dining room with a cozy fire place. Server came right over to let us know the specials and get our drink order. I went with a big ditch hay burner on draft. There's a tv monitor that shows photos and tells you again what the specials and most popular items are. I went with the captain Pete fish and chips, delicious. Fresh North Atlantic beer battered cod with fries and coleslaw. So much food. A few people got steak. Captains platter was very popular too. 8oz filet 6oz lobster tail and shrimp. Honestly I was hesitant to write this review, as I feel like our experience at dinner last night is not necessarily a true reflection of Nolan's. My husband and I made reservations there as we were in town for a 10 year anniversary trip. The restaraunt itself is beautifully appointed, the food was decent, and the staff was friendly. They also had a cute Happy Anniversary card on a stand that they put at our table which was a nice touch. We were seated in a nice private booth, and were offered waters before our server came over to take our drink and food order (we choose to order both at the same time). Our starters came, and then my husbands drink came afterwards. Our dinner came, and I believe was dropped by a food runner because it was very busy. I want to preface this with our server was nice, we absolutely still left a tip, and we don't think this was her fault at all. For context, we were seated next to a large group of over 12 celebrating a bachelorette- which is great! The group itself was perfectly fine, but obviously a table like that is going to need more attention due to the size of the group, and probably should have been our servers only table for that time period. After our food was dropped it felt like our table was forgotten about completely. No one came to check in on our meal, or to even offer my husband a refill on his drink. We then decided we were both pretty full and going to box up the remainder of our meals. It took over 20 minutes for anyone to see we were done eating and offer us boxes. I suspect this is because the 12 top requested seperate checks which our server was working on which I know is incredibly time consuming. One woman did notice we were done while she was helping with the 12 top. She was also very nice, and came back quickly with boxes. We then waited another 15 minutes for our server to check in and tell us she'd grab our check. In short, it took over 40 minutes from when we stopped eating our meal to be checked on, offered boxes, and given the check (and still never offered drink refills). At that time they asked if we wanted to see a dessert menu. The sparkler looked cool (not sure if they would've done that for our anniversary), but we declined because at that point we just wanted to head out. We were really looking forward to a nice evening out and while it still was, the experience honestly left us feeling disappointed. read more

I have been to Nolan's a handful of times. My most recent time was even worse than the event before that. For starters, my family and I were celebrating birthdays. We called ahead of time for reservations, and we never implied it was a birthday! We get to the restaurant and the hostess was very unhappy and introduced herself with an attitude simply because no one told her over the phone it was three people's birthdays. Fast forward, we never received any rolls. Not sure if they stopped doing that, but when the waitress takes forever to come to your table with a cold attitude.. you'd expect more from this place. Our entrees come, extremely cold, cheap tasting which is pretty ironic given the prices of everything, and then we found a bone in the chicken that was added on top of the flatbread! For desert, only one of the individuals with the birthday was presented with a dessert while we specifically told them there was three. She paid no mind to the other side of the table. Sure, the ambiance is nice if you like your table to be left alone with no waitress on a dead Wednesday night! I do not recommend this restaurant if you prefer staff that is friendly, treats you with respect, and if you like your food to not be ridiculously overpriced for the mediocre taste. read more

I'm from Indiana and this was my first visit to Nolan's...my boyfriend insisted that he had to take me. We started off with a very welcoming greeting by Marshall. We ordered two lemon drop martinis which were absolutely fantastic. We then decided that since we were having dessert that we would share a meal, as we usually do because we both don't eat a whole lot. We decided on the Captain's Platter...for starters the shrimp cocktail (one shrimp for each) was perfect and very tasty. The platter came out and presentation was superb. The filet was placed on a bed of sautéed mushrooms, while the lobster tail was placed onto a shredded bed of lettuce complimented with mashed potatoes and butter. When I took the first bite of the filet I seriously had melted and gone to this very beautiful place...my tastebuds were so taken back by how tender, flavorful, and magical this was. I'd never had a filet like this before. We ordered it medium rare which was cooked to perfection! The lobster was very juicy and dipping into the melted butter was very tasty. The mashed potatoes were absolutely amazing! The garlic and creamy taste was pure ecstasy! I had never tasted any potatoes like this ever. Marshall checked in on us and he was an absolute delight. Very attentive, friendly, and at times quite humorous. Definitely would go back to see him and enjoy his kindness and laughter. Lastly we ordered dessert...Marshall gave us the rundown and we chose the Creme brûlée. I honestly have never had a brûlée as exuberantly delicious as this one! The chocolate cup it was served in added an extra special layer to this already amazingly appetizing, palatable sweet! Overall I can't even describe anymore how much I enjoyed this restaurant and it's staff. The woman who I believe was the manager came out and asked how we were which was a lovely touch to our already wonderful experience.
