If you're looking for a bowl of delicious ramen, you can find it here along with many other Japanese specialties. At this time, Nomo Domo offers six varieties of ramen (one is gluten-free). As their menu states, "FROM BONE TO BROTH EVERY BOWL IS A CULMINATION OF TIME PATIENCE, AND THE ART OF LAYERING FLAVORS". We started with three appetizers: Enoki Chips, Karaage Chicken and an order of their Ebi Shumai. The Enoki Chips are delicate enoki mushrooms fried until golden crisp and they had a rich umami. Nomo Domo's portion of Karaage Chicken is not large in the number of pieces, but the appetizer consisted of large, thick and juicy pieces of chicken. Even though they double-fry the pieces for a perfect crunchy treat, the chunks are not overcooked as so many eateries tend to do - crispy outside with a moist, tender inside. The Karaage is served with lemon and wasabi mayo. If plumb, well-filled dumplings are the comfort food you crave, the Ebi Shumai will fill that need. The serving size is four well-filled pieces. They are served with hot mustard and pinzu vinaigrette (on the side), and topped with a shrimp. Our middle course was the Hon Maguro Bluefin Tuna shashimi. It consisted of five pieces of seasonal Bluefin Tuna from Nagasaki, Japan, which is prized for its buttery texture and refined flavor. Of course we had to try their ramen on our first visit here, so we chose their Seared Pork Belly Tonkotsu ramen. The creamy pork bone broth was mild in flavor. The ramen was missing the listed Mayu Black Garlic Oil ingredient on the menu, however overall the ramen was excellent. BEST RAMEN IN SLO !! We ordered the Seared Pork Belly Tonkotsu, Pork Shoulder Spicy Miso, and Cold Ramen. Overall, the ramen was super yummy and I really enjoyed the nice atmosphere and ambiance of the place. Although the food is on the pricier end, I believe it's worth the price. There's also indoor and outdoor seating available but we sat outdoors with the heaters on since it was a little breezy that day. We placed a reservation but they take walk-ins as well. Wife was craving ramen so we went downtown SLO on a Sunday at 1 pm (Memorial day weekend) Noticed it wasn't busy so waited for the waiter to seat us. Once he came he gave the bad news that there was something wrong with the machine in the kitchen and there was no ramen. I said to the guy, "a ramen place with no ramen?" He didn't know how long it would take so was pointless to wait when there was no guarantee how long it would be. There were patrons sitting but no clue if they got an order or waiting. TLDR: It's a restaurant that I don't mind going back to. I think the food was good, and the price is standard. I like the vibe and look of the place enough to bring a first date. Roast Duck Breast Truffle Shoyu: The most important thing to me when ordering anything truffle is to know how long the taste of truffle lasts throughout the meal. The smell of truffle was there, and the taste lasted about a bite and a slurp of soup. Although disappointed, I can't say that I'm not surprised. The shoyu broth was pretty stock standard. It wasn't too powerful, and I think the noodle they used did its job by keeping hold of the broth, well. The duck was good as well. It would've been nice to get another slice or two of it, but the current portion size will have to do. Ambiance: I love it. I ordered the double fried chicken that was crispy with this amazing lemon flavored sauce which was perfect. I really want to like this place more, as an option for ramen in San Luis Obispo. I was kind of irritated though, when they basically forgot our order for over forty minutes. We could tell they were scrambling, but they said nothing to apologize and merely ran around for a bit. That said, the decor is pretty typical for a ramen joint, and the people seemed overall friendly. The ramen was decent, but the slower service for us really degraded our experience. I had the tonkotsu which was a pleasant flavor. The pork was almost a little too chewy and more like bacon, but still tasted good. I did enjoy a bite of my spouse's duck which was a different ramen. Pretty tasty chew. She was also able to customize it to leave out the truffle oil, as she was not a fan of that, to their credit. Weekend date with the boyfriend, our first time trying Nomo Domo! We sat at the bar in front of the kitchen. The ambiance felt pretty elegant at first, but I was a little bummed to see they only had take-out style chopsticks. We were a bit confused about the seating situation when we arrived. There was a family in front of us who also didn't know if it was wait-to-be-seated or sit-yourself. No hostess at the front, so we waited a couple minutes before someone came by. Seemed like a common thing because we noticed it happen a few times during our lunch. Once we were seated, our waitress took our order fairly quickly and the food came out fast too. We started with the Enoki Chips and Hon Maguro Sashimi (Bluefin Tuna). For entrées, we got the Seared Pork Belly Tonkotsu and the Roasted Duck Breast Truffle Shoyu. The appetizers were great! The Enoki Chips had this light potato flavor (maybe made with potato starch?) and were super crispy. The Bluefin Tuna sashimi was buttery and delicious. The ramen came out soon after, the Pork Belly Tonkotsu was rich but not too heavy, and the pork belly was so tender. The Duck Breast Truffle Shoyu was rich and fatty in the best way, with a lighter broth that balanced it out. Service-wise, things could definitely be improved. After our food came out, we didn't get much attention. No one offered water refills, and when we asked, the server came back later apologizing for forgetting. The same thing happened when we asked for the check, our server forgot again, and we ended up having to ask someone else. Overall though, the food was delicious and totally worth another visit. Another great Asian addition to SLO!! The hubby found this place on Yelp as we were driving back from San Jose. They have only had a few reviews so far due to still in soft opening phase, but they're all great reviews. The pictures of the ramens don't look very attractive, but we decided to give it a try anyway, and super glad we did! The place is located right next door to McConnell's ice cream, and across the street from Giuseppe's, which I was pleasantly surprised. The inside is small, but nice. They have more outdoor seatings with heated lamps, which helps since the indoor would run out of seats quick once more people know about them. We started with a few appetizers to share: chicken karaage, gyoza, and agedashi tofu. They were all cooked well with lots of flavor. For ramen, the hubby called dipped on the tonkotsu, which I reluctantly picked the chicken yuzu ramen to be able to try more dishes. To my surprise, my ramen was very well balanced with nice citrus flavor, but clean taste at the same time. The noodle was cooked perfectly with a soft but chewy and bouncy texture still. Since they're still in soft opening phase, no actual dessert menu yet, but we were offered complimentary lychee sorbet , which tasted like it was made in house. Caught my eye while walking in downtown SLO so decided to give it a try during lunch on Friday. Wasn't busy and they have outdoor seating which is clutch since we had our pup with us. The ambiance is really cool and hip. We ordered a green tea and a peach yuzu soda. The soda was refreshing and the tea arrived in an adorable cup. Selected the duck ramen and the pork tonkotsu ramen. The noodles and meat were better in the duck, but the broth was better for the pork. Both broths were RICH in flavor. Egg was DELICIOUS. Bathroom was clean with trendy mirrors. There was a propane tank in there which was confusing. Is it decoration? Could it be commentary on passing gas? Regardless, service was quick and nice. The karaage was good; it was well-marinated, and flavorful, though the portion felt a bit steep at four pieces for $10. The yuzu chicken ramen, however, was underwhelming. While the yuzu broth had a pleasant, citrusy aroma, it lacked seasoning and could have used a pinch of salt to elevate the flavors. The chicken itself was bland and didn't add much to the dish. This has easily become my absolute favorite ramen spot -- hands down the best ramen I've ever had in my life. The staff here is consistently friendly, super attentive, and just genuinely nice every single time I visit. You can tell they care about the food and the experience. My go-to is the Seared Pork Belly ramen, and I'm not exaggerating when I say it's the best ramen dish I've ever eaten. The broth is rich and perfectly balanced, the noodles have that ideal chew, and the seared pork belly? Unreal -- tender, flavorful, and downright addictive. After my first visit, I ended up coming back at least five more times within the same month. I couldn't stay away. Friends I've brought along have raved about the Roasted Duck Breast ramen. They're big duck fans and said it was absolutely delicious -- tender, perfectly seasoned, and something they'd happily order every single time. Only small downside is the seating can feel a little tight at some tables. And if you sit along the window bar, you're basically looking straight out at other diners (and they're looking right back at you), which made a couple people in my group a bit uncomfortable. But honestly? The food is so good that it's easy to overlook. If you're anywhere near this place and love ramen, do yourself a favor and go. You'll probably become a regular too. Well this was probably our 20th time getting ramen from Nomo. Everything has always been good. It's obviously hard to find ramen in SLO. Our first couple of times here, it was really great. All the times following lacked the detail it had when they first opened BUT it was still good! I brought friends here and clients. We love the bluefin roll, the chicken ramen, the gyoza, the domo roll, the pork ramen, and the duck breast ramen. We've had a few good desserts here too! Tonight-- I asked the server if she recommended the new pork (spicy miso broth) ramen or if I should do the chicken. Obviously he had already had the chicken, but I wanted to see if she recommended the pork one over the chicken one. I've worked the restaurant industry, I know some servers will recommend the more expensive one to get a little extra tip but our server really seemed to like the new pork ramen, so I ordered it. It came and it was terrible. I took probably less than 5 bites. Something had to have been off. I did send it back when the server came back, she apologized but didn't offer to replace it. I want to mention she eventually returned 10 minutes later to ask if I wanted something else. My partners chicken ramen was also not as fresh tasting as it normally is but we felt bad sending back both dishes. We NEVER send dishes back anywhere. I seriously think something was off in the kitchen. New cook. New ingredients. I don't know but it wasn't good. Our server brought out lychee sorbet to make it up to us. My partner liked it, I just was more in the mood for savory food since it was dinner time but I know she already asked to swap out my dinner and was just trying to resolve things. We get the bill-- and she charged us for the ramen that I, again, took less than 5 bites of. We tipped her 25% and then realized she never took off my ramen bowl. We are so disappointed. This was our date night spot. Our weekly takeout spot. And a place I took my girlfriends & clients out to. We have family coming into town this week and I planned to take them here but I am so shocked about the way this was handled financially. Okay about the food, my bf had the seared pork ramen one the broth was pretty delightful not too salty which is good. We arrived at 6:30 on Friday and actually got a table right away (party of two). They are not taking reservations. It's a beautiful room with high ceilings, modern light wood, and soft lighting. Service was friendly and we felt very welcome. Noise level is loud. Some rare Japanese beers on the beer/wine/sake menu (no liquor). I had the Hitachino Nest Ale (I believe the server said it was made from rice) and it was a little sweet, like a brown ale without the hop, very good with the meal (12 oz bottle $14). Full menu attached. Some fun non alcoholic options like Lychee Fizz. For food, we started with the Enoki Chips ($12.90), which was a deep fried nest of julienned enoki mushroom - like straws more than chips. The spicy sauce to dip was good but the mushroom nest was too oily. The sous vide chicken ramen ($20) was good and came with a small bowl of spicy sauce to add to your taste. I wasn't crazy about the noodles in this item as they weren't chewy enough for me. Each ramen has its own noodle, including a vegan (with kale noodles) and a gluten-free offering. Our server said you could have any noodle with any broth. My friend had the vegetable gyoza ($12) and liked them, although they came out about 10 minutes before my ramen even though she had ordered them as her entree. OK, we're from Los Angeles and certified ramen FREAKS. Anyone who wouldn't rate Nomo Domo's bowls of noodle goodness five stars needs to have their heads examined and their taste buds tested. This place serves one of the BEST, if not the best, bowls of ramen we've had outside of Japan (yes, we've eaten ramen in Japan). The broth is creamy and rich, the noodles perfect in texture, and the sides pure heaven. And don't get us started on the owners and their staff. The establishment is run by Charles and Tanja, who also own the Thai restaurant Bot, located a few miles south of downtown San Luis Obispo. Charles is a trained chef from New York, who brings his love of NY style bistros to the Central Coast and boy, does it show. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and his staff feels more like the owners' extended family than employees and it shows. We usually opt for the pork donkatsu, but there are other options, including duck, vegetarian, and chicken variations, all delicious and emblematic of a chef who knows his way around a bowl of noodles. Sides are quirky and unique, with Charles putting his spin on staples like Karaage fried chicken, fish collar, sashimi, shishito peppers, and dumplings. Definitely go for the Enoki mushroom chips. We could write a novel detailing all the great food we've had here (Charles will even go off-menu if the mood is right) and, if you're lucky enough to catch him there, might enjoy a sake if you buy him one.
