I fully appreciated the blanket and heaters that were brought over as it was a chilly evening, yet we were still "indoors" but not. Service was impeccable, with every member of the staff ensuring our experience was top notch and food met our expectations. I chose the slowly roasted beef ribs rice and was not expecting savory goodness that arrived! The beef ribs melted in my mouth and the rice was so incredibly flavorful - I would order this over and over again! Of all the restaurants I've been to, Figueira Rubaiyat has by far the one of the most extensive wine list I've seen, featuring many different wines from around the world, including Brazil of course! There is also a gift shop that should not be missed because of the very unique items that are found here - and a place I'll need to visit next time I'm in the area again! The entire experience is one that should not be missed. Every detail and every bite was absolute perfection!

One challenge was communication, as none of the staff seemed to speak a language other than Portuguese. While everyone was polite and tried to help, this could be difficult for international visitors. The drinks were unfortunately the weakest part of the experience. They took an exceptionally long time to arrive, and the quality and flavor were disappointing. On the positive side, the desserts were good; creative, original, and delicious. They were easily the highlight of the meal. What ultimately made the experience disappointing was the value for money. The bill came to nearly 3,000 BRL (about $600 USD) for two people, which felt extremely overpriced for what was delivered. At that price point, I would expect exceptional food, outstanding drinks, and a more seamless overall experience. While the service and desserts were good, the overall experience simply did not justify the cost. Unfortunately, I did not feel it was worth the price.

Everybody knows that Sao Paulo is the best city to eat great Japanese food outside Japan. I always…read morehad great experiences eating at Izakaya Issa, one of the best Japanese food I have already had (different from te sushi-sashimi we are use to). I have never been in Japan, but I heard that Izakaya Issa is very authentic and traditional. The ladies working there are always very friendly, and Dona Margarida Haraguchi, the owner, is so sweet and conversationist! The star dishes from the place is the octopus balls (really creamy and well-flavored) and the ramen!

There were certainly plenty of Japanese speaking customers mixed in with Portuguese. And I, the odd tourist, felt right at home. The bamboo shoot and shitake mushroom appetizers were delectable. The chicken broth ramen was insipid. The Gyukatsu Kare (breaded fried beef with curry sauce over rice) was better, but not the ultra crispy panko planks I've had in some places. Maybe it was because I ordered it at the end of the night. The Brazilian brewed cold sake was really good. Could hardly tell the difference from Japanese sake. But, the highlight of the dinner of Sanma Shio--grilled pike mackerel with sea salt. Inexpensive for Sanma, uber fresh, grilled crispy so that you could crunch up the head and tail! The service was prompt, efficient and very warm. Even the owner came by to chat several times. Arigato gozaimasu! Obrigado! Thank you.
