June 13th... today marks 7 years since my grandpa passed away. I decided to go out for dinner as a celebration of his life. Today was also my brothers and sister in laws wedding, I had to miss it due to certain circumstances, but I'm so incredibly happy for them. I am also treating myself with my favorite type of food Italian. Grief is a weird thing, it takes time and sometimes it gets better, sometimes it doesn't. But progress is the most important take away from it. I love my grandpa very much and I wish he was here to see what I'm accomplishing today. All I want is to make him proud. I wish I could be there for my family, but ik Gods got them and he is rejoicing over their union. The workers were above and beyond. The food was delicious, and the wine was divine. I'll be coming back for that Chardonnay and the atmosphere. One of the waiters sat down with me and asked "why are you here?" And I just told her "I'm taking myself out for a nice evening". She is the sweetest lady ever and I wish her the absolute best. To the gentleman who was helping me out with the menu, Thank-you for being so genuine and treating me like a human being. Our waiter, Levi (like the jeans!), was exceptional very attentive, friendly, and made the night feel special. The Bolognese Tagliatelle with beef & pork and parmesan was rich and flavorful, and the orzo with salmon was very delicious. We came for dinner yesterday. I missed the turning into the strip mall and spent 20mins making the u turn back because of the road closures. It was a little bit of a nightmare For a Saturday night the place was pretty empty. We requested a table outside because it was too cold inside. The inside was very nice. Outside was nice too but you did feel left out. In general service was slow and it was hard to get our server. We had a lemonade. Calamari starter. Gnocchi pasta. Budino and Gelato for desserts. I also got a Margherita pizza to go. Calamari was too big for me :/ on its own it was very bland but the aioli was really good. The gnocchi was hands down the best thing. So tasty and pillowy. Desserts... the budino was nice but the cookies were too much it in and it all became a bit sickly so the end. The Gelato was good. Overall. The service was OK. Place was beautiful. So so impressed with this restaurant!! Visited for restaurant week and was so amazed! First off, the price was sooo affordable- $35 for dinner and 3 courses!! Plus complimentary bread with a side of delicious pesto to start off with. I ordered the tomato basil soup for my appetizer, which was so creamy and so flavorful! Not too salty either. For my main, i ordered the lobster ravioli, which had BIG pieces of FRESH lobster!! I was so amazed at the quality of the lobster. The sauce was amazing, as were the tomatoes- just wish there were more tomatoes! The ravioli was so chewy too. Lastly for dessert, ordered the gelato, which was a vanilla bean flavor and so refreshing!! On top of the amazing food, the service was spectacular! Our waitress was very attentive and friendly, and she even allowed us to order a wine from the upstairs sister restaurant silo's. Another pleasant surprise- we got a $20 gift card for participating in restaurant week!! What a steal! The ambiance is casual yet classy too. We came here right as the restaurant opened, our server Moe was amazing. Very personable and offered options he thought we might enjoy. The food was delicious, I got the salmon and it was fantastic. The seasoning and temperature was on point and even the cauliflower was delicious and I'm a big cauliflower hater. My husband got the bolognese and enjoyed it but said he definitely will try the other dish he was recommended next time. The restaurant was mostly quiet since we were the only ones and by the time we left there were only 2 other tables sat. But the restaurant itself was beautiful and intimate, great for date night out, celebrations, or just a lunch with someone you love. We were heading to Fredericksburg from San Antonio when a reminder popped up on my phone. The Monday Special 2 for the price of 1 (second meal at equal of lesser value, up to $29) was taking place. We couldn't resist and had to stop. We love the toasted bread cubes served with tapenade. So tasty! When our server noticed us both eyeing the last cube, she brought us more. Yum! My husband ordered the Luca's Signature dish, the Tartufo with seasonal truffles. I had the Tagliolini Al Nero, squid ink pasta, lobster, calamari and fra diavolo sauce. Both were delicious!!! A disappointing outing... from the moment we sat down, it was clear our server was overwhelmed. He hurried past the table, muttered his name (no one heard), and didn't return for another five minutes. The entire service was a bit of a slog. Orders were incorrect, and the check had to be edited because the server had charged for a more expensive bottle of wine than what was ordered and served. Unfortunately, the food did not help anything along. The short rib was too salty, the salmon overcooked, and the two pasta dishes flavorless. A bright spot was the charcuterie starter. Honestly this is the best Italian food I've had in San Antonio. We had the Affettati e formaggi to start as an appetizer - everything on it was great. Basically a small charcuterie with meats and cheese. For our main courses my daughters enjoyed the Bolognese pasta - which is outstanding. My wife had The wild boar - or Cinghiale. And I had the polpette. Every dish was amazing. The service was great and she was attentive throughout even though it was busy. They did not understaff and had a good staff to table ratio. First time at Nonna's for my 30th birthday, such an incredible experience. The food was delicious, our server was amazing. I really enjoyed this restaurant and plan on coming back. I ordered the tartufo with chicken and my Fiance ordered the tartufo with shrimp. Both were super delicious, I feel like I would order the shrimp next time. For dessert with ordered the tiramisu and it was so creamy and delicious. Perfect blend of flavors. The only thing I would mention is I had made a reservation for 18 people and they didn't let me know the tables would be split but they were super helpful in making sure we could switch up the space really quickly and fit everyone in one spot, so I really appreciated that. read more

Really disappointing visit on Feb 15th. Server disappeared for long waits. Received wrong bottle of wine but after the long wait decided not to make an issue. The meatball appetizer came with very little sauce...when asked for more we no joke got what looked like a sake cup with maybe a tablespoon of contadina cold marinara. Nonna has been one of our favorite places since they opened. We have tried most of the menu and some is amazing and some is really lacking. I took a very good friend there as a thank you on Tuesday. The waitress said the spaghetti bolognese was homemade and it was loved by all. We ordered and 4 minutes later we had our food on the table. It was blazing hot and the ends of the noodles were hard. The bolognese sauce was so peppery and spicy it was like licking a pepper shaker. We called over the waitress and asked if we could get a new order made. She then informed me, they premade a giant batch of the bolognese and that is what they use for a day or two or until it runs out. She said there was nothing the chef could do to fix the issue. So our favorite restaurant IMO, plates premade food, microwaves it and serves it. I am so bummed by what happened and I was embarrassed. read more

Though we liked the buttery pieces of bread and olives/oil dip, eggplant Parmesan was mushy/overcooked, lobster ravioli had small bits of lobster, not large pieces of lobster which was described by previous yelper and hazelnut gelato tasted more like ice cream than traditional gelato. We come from the North where Italian food is amazing, cheap, ethnic, and made with love. This restaurant doesn't disappoint. We had risotto balls for an appetizer. It didn't come with marinara sauce, which I would recommend. I had the cheese wheel which was amazing! The dessert menu is decent, but they didn't have Cannoli's. They had gelato, tiramisu, a brownie as a special. I would describe this as northern Italian cuisine. Went for my birthday dinner and I highly recommend you calling a few days ahead to make reservations The dishes in the photo look like small portions but because it's all pasta, it will definitely fill you up. Raspberry cocktail was very delicious. Lots of ice but didn't taste watered down at all. We ordered 3 dishes between two people so we can try as much as we could. All three dishes we tried were good so I don't think you can go wrong with anything on their menu. I have to give a shoutout to the Tortufo pasta is worth all the hype. It does get cold fast...which was a little disappointing BUT if you love cheese and appreciate truffle...please get this dish. It was amazing!! Nonna is part of the Silo family, which coincidently is our favorite place(s) to eat in San Antonio. Every-time we visit Silo on 1604 we remind each-other we have to try Nonna, which sits right below Silo. Today my girl received an email from Nonna for a 2 for 1 special on Mondays only. We jumped at the opportunity and made reservations at 6 PM. Once we arrived we were promptly seated in a low light and quiet area which we appreciated greatly. Our 2 person table was spacious and wait staff very attentive. We opted to go straight to the main course with no appetizers. We were delivered a pre entre bread choice which we very disappointing. Small amounts of bread which appeared to be croutons but soft. They tasted good but jeez they were small (pictured). The menu selection was limited...very limited, and I was disappointed in the lack of beef and pasta options. I ordered the Roasted Chicken and my girl ordered the Shrimp Risotto dish. Both of us enjoyed our meal but the plates lacked substance. My plate was a 1/4 chicken, no veggies, and a red sauce. No sides a available as Ala Carte' either. My girl enjoyed her plate and was happy with the portion size. Service was excellent, food arrived quick, and dessert didn't disappoint. I suggest reviewing the menu prior to visiting. Last night, my neighbor Michele treated me to dinner for my birthday at Nonna Osteria in Stone Oak. It just opened recently and we had the pleasure to sit out in the bistro-like patio. I had the refreshing Raspberry Sorbetto and Michele had a Chianti. We were given some complimentary bread and tapenade. The tapenade was a tad bit salty but was tasty. I don't think I've ever had gnocchi before so I got to try it for the first time. Michele and I shared the Gnocchi Alla Romana with gruyere cheese and caramelized onions. So good! We also shared the Insalata Verde. For her entree, Michele had the Pomodoro with tagliatelle pasta and I had the Vegetali. It was orecchiette pasta with basil pesto, cauliflower, bell pepper, tomato and mozzarella. Delicious but there was no way I was finishing the great big portion. We ended the meal with some desserts - Michele with the Torta Della Nonna which was a lemon custard tart and I had the Tiramisu. I had a bite of the lemon tart and yum! My Tiramisu was so light! Perfect meal with perfect company! Curtis was a delight as a server and took good care of us. For those in the Northern Central area, you can enjoy Nonna without having to drive far now. Our server Levi was really attentive & friendly. He was great from beginning to end. Started off with some libations and then moved to entrees. My wife got Roasted sea bass with potatoes & tomatoes. I fulfilled a food bucket list item & got the table side fettuccine Alfredo tossed in a parmigiano reggiano cheese wheel - which is imported from Bagnoli Italy. I highly recommend and look forward to the next time I get it. It comes with truffle on top, but I declined that topping. For dessert my wife got the gelato - both vanilla and the Nutella flavors.
