Their good understanding and willingness to get the stains out makes them sympathique. They say they try but cannot guarantee...For a dress I pay around £7 considering around Barbican they charged me around £11 - not ok! I know lots of guys going there as well, delivering their 5 shirts of the week and I am sure they give you for a higher quantity a better offer. MIGHT AS WELL THROW YOUR CLOTHES/SHOES IN THE BIN. Honestly one of the worst customer experiences I've ever had. My clothes took 17 WEEKS before they were ready for collection, and in a damaged condition when I got them back. I stupidly paid when I dropped them off but they refused to refund me or compensate for the damage. In addition... and this is where it gets nuts... the owner hid in the back room for 45 minutes when I came to collect them (I refused to leave until he came out). When I mentioned small claims court he literally grabbed my receipt out of my hand and refused to give it back. He was very nasty including making some gross misogynistic slurs (I'm a man... this fact appeared lost on him). He swore at me and threatened to sue me for slander if I gave him a bad review. I live near by and had been taking my stuff into town for alterations, but on this day, I was planning a big event and didn't have time to take this new dress in and I wanted to wear it, and I remembered I had seen this place with this woman happily sewing in the window. I used to be a costume designer and I can just tell when someone loves sewing, and when they do, they're usually really good. This woman is awesome (can you tell I'm American) anyway, she's the best. WORST EVER SERVICE! I have used this "business" to dry clean 5 shirts. When I noticed large brown iron stains at the same spot on all collars, I returned to show the owner the stains. I brought in a coat with a food stain and a button to be replaced on the fly of a pair of trousers. I went the following day to pick up my things. Before leaving I checked the sewing job. The button was placed somewhat off center which I thought was unprofessional. Granted it wasn't a critical mistake, but when I pointed it out to the girl behind the counter some of the other workers observing my comments began to laugh. A reflection of the attitude towards the standards they hold. After getting home I looked at my coat and realised that the stain on my coat was basically still there. Went there to have some keys cut. One of the keys was a bit weird but the guy said he could do it no problem. When I got them back, that one was not working. Came back to him and he did some scraping and told me to try again, even though it clearly still didn't look like the original one. Obviously still didn't work. I sent two skirts for alteration here and they ruined them completely! Can u imagine the front of the skirt is actually longer in lenght comapred to the back? And two identical skirts with the same instruction to tighten on the waist and one of them end up so much tigher than the other! I took the skirts to another alteration shop to get them sorted out (more money spent!) and the lady couldn't help but laugh at the poor workmanship. Watch out, they are very sneaky and crooked. I went in with two shirts, 2.25 each to get cleaned. I paid by debit card for 4.50. When I checked my bank statements I had a payment made out to them for 10.25. When I confronted them, they told me it was a bank error and refused to refund me the money. The second time I went down, all I wanted to was them to adjust the length of my jeans without a wash. Although I insisted I didn't want them to wash my jeans they decided to place that on the bill without informing me. I luckily noticed the extra charge and made them take it off. The quality of their wash is good but If anyone is deciding to get their clothes dry cleaned there just be careful. They will play dumb and take advantage if easily done. read more

Worst cleaning I have experienced in London. I gave them a Celine knit with minimal wear and one stain on the sleeve and hem from spilling a food on me. Had to wait 4 business days for pick up and the garment is far from clean. There are no indicators that stains are were left. It looks like the black colour has bled - which has never happened before with this garment. The white is not white. There is no dry clean label that its even been cleaned and it doesn't smell fresh. Very poor service and due to the time constraint I will not be giving it back for a another wash. Cost me £8.30 which is too $$ for one viscose knit. read more

We have used City Dry Cleaners on a number of occasions for quite few years as we live locally. Having great patience and being optimistic we have overlooked their flaws here and there but they have now sinked below our tolerance level and we now feel we need to let the world know about their services. Afraid its gonna be a little of a rant. First instance was when we enquired about if they would undertake dying clothes, yes of course they would, just bring the garment in. It was a white suit jacket by a japanese high end couture house. We were told It was no problem to dye this. They later called up and wondered if we wouldn't like to have it blue instead of black? It would just be a much quicker service that way. It turned out that they intended to dye this £800 jacket with normal household clothes dye and they happened to have blue in stock. They seriously intended to dye this jacket in a normal washing machine with standard dye?! When we queried this and how the possible polyester seams would take the dark dye, we got a very airy uncertain fluffy answer back that the result would be 50/50. Irritated, but relieved, that we found out about how they intended to dye this without actually telling us about these "minor" issues, we immediately took the jacket back! Recently we handed in 4 cotton/silk dress shirts and 1 jumper. When we picked these up we noted that the shirts were not clean with collars and cuffs still dirty and they where also very badly pressed with creases all over. And to top this, they lost the jumper. They asked about the details of the jumper and we explained it was a £400 silk/wool mix jumper by Lanvin, the same brand as all the shirts, they loudly expressed they never heard about this brand and no jumper would be that expensive. Nice! The Jumper luckily managed to find its way home, 3 weeks later. When we picked this up we where met by bad attitude and being accused for lying and that it was not a £400 jumper, but a simple T-shirt. We found this amusing and offered to call Lanvin store to confirm this. He didn't have time for this. Never once did anyone actually say sorry. So, another dry cleaner has gone down the bad service, money grabbing route in hope that this will never affect their business and no one will ever know. We all love great clothes and work very hard to be able to afford this and under no circumstances should anyone be treated like this. I usually use this place as it's close to work. They're well priced and do a decent job (took a red wool coat there and was pleased at the price, but then had a closer look at home and noticed it wasn't AS clean as it maybe could have been...still a smidge of dirt around the collar). Everything else has been find except for one thing. I took a long-ish, very lightweight, silky viscose shirt in to get cleaned (you know, the type you could wear over leggings...so just covers your butt but you certainly couldn't wear it just with tights) and they charged it as a woman's dress. Size-wise it was probably less material than most mens' business shirts. I said something about how it really was a large shirt and shouldn't be charged as a dress, and the guy got pretty snippy with me. In the end I had to pay the dress price - about double what a shirt would have cost. It was more the principle of the experience that bothered me, but I'm American so maybe my customer service expectations are higher than most people's. Just doesn't seem worth it to risk repeat business and what could have been a good review on the likes of Yelp simply for a few quid. I'll continue to use them for now, not because I love them so much, but because they're convenient, and every other place around is either a huge rip off or ruins your clothes. read more

I brought my jacket in to this dry cleaners.. a very sentimental jacket to me worth 400 pounds. I had asked them if it was ok to be cleaned and if they could do it and he said he absolutely could which means I thought he should know what he is doing. It was a fur and they sent it off and it came back completely destroyed. It had disintegrated and was completely in pieces. They must have no idea or no care to look after peoples clothing. The man in this place had absolutely no empathy and just told me there is nothing he could do. Do not go here. I took 3 pairs of curtains in for simple shortening alterations. I picked this place because they were close by and he said he could have them back to me on that Saturday. He gave me excuses every day until they were finally ready on Thursday. He said the seamstress had to change spools... why would he not finish the curtains and start a new job? I looked at the curtains and noticed the 3rd one had a different length seam (from the others) and he said I should have said that, that it was a special instruction - what??? Why do I have to tell them how to do something I would think would be common sense? But the biggest disappointment was the fact that he didn't give me the material they cut off. Every single dry cleaner I have ever been to has given me the fabric back that they cut off - even if it was a small piece from a shirt, they always gave it back. I had plans to make cushions from the material and argued with the manager(?) at length about it and he said they never do that. I can't believe they threw this out - what a waste and how inconsiderate. He raised his voice and told me that was a special instruction I had to give - why would I if every other place I had been gave me the material back automatically?? Lastly, there was a spot on one of the curtains and when I called about this, he said I'd have to bring it in and they wouldn't do anything if it wasn't their fault. The curtains were brand new. I never want to see or speak to that man again, so I haven't gone back. I asked to speak to the owner and he said I had to email and they would come back to me in a month. i have taken a few items here for cleaning - cashmere and silk (with a spot) and was happy with the results. i also took jeans and dressy shorts for hemming, and they did a fantastic job of matching the original stitch and thread color. i can't comment on their tailoring, since i pinned both items myself, but the sewing is a quality job. they are quick, friendly and have decent opening hours for drop off/pick up. i *think* the prices are reasonable (£8 to clean 2 items, £14 to hem 2 items). the only other dry cleaners i've used is inside liverpool st. station, which definitely cost too much, but i know i was paying more for the location/convenience. read more
