My friends and I rented a private room in Noraebar. We had such a good time! There is also a main stage, too! I think people tend to let loose a little more in a private area amongst friends. But honestly, after the liquor hits, everyone becomes Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston. There is a button in the private rooms you can press, and a server will come take your order. Noraebar doesn't serve food, but you are able to bring food in from the outside. There are several restaurants nearby. This is the first karaoke bar I have gone to that charges customers to sing songs on the main stage. It's only $2, but it felt a little spirit airlineish. In downtown Louisville we came across NoraeBar. This is a karaoke bar, that's packed with 20-25 year olds, where you have to push and shove if you'd like to get a better view of the stage, or if you've lost your friend in the crowd. This reminds me a lot of when I would go out on a Thursday night in college with friends. Even though I was never in Louisville in college, this place brought me so much nostalgia. There is a $2.00 fee to sing a karaoke song. Then wait. At the bar everyone got their drinks in those plastic, flexible cups for $12 each, as soon as you turn around you'll bump into someone and you'll be wearing the drink on your shirt, or you'll be adding to the already sticky floor. I got the Sake Jelly Shot. This looked interesting and like I've never seen before. This came in a tiny can and had jelly, the type you might find in bubble tea. It's basically sake that's peach flavored. I enjoyed this drink. It was eventually our turn to sing. The whole crowd cheered us on as we sang "...Baby one more time". NoraeBar was a lot of fun! This however isn't the type of place I would currently gravitate towards in this day and age. Been here a few times now with friends and we've had a fun night each time! Belt your hearts out for like 2hrs and grab a drink. Heard the room rates now are like $200/12ppl an hour (biggest room) and it used to be discounted if you go during the week during happy hour which was much cheaper. If you split amongst the group it's not too bad though it does seem a little on the higher side imo plus the rooms are pretty damn small. You will be sitting shoulder to shoulder. Even in the biggest room we had people had to stand up. The whole place is cute and you can sing in a non private room if you're being brave! Good song selection and you can get ideas from their set lists like throwbacks. You can also get connected to youtube instead if you rather do that. Because i was disappointed that this place literally uses the korean word for karaoke but there are no/minimal korean songs on their list so if you want to sing in a different language ask to set up youtube. Drinks are about $12 they all sound super interesting. I was there recently for an event and it had edible glitter in it with ube oof it was strong but pretty good. My friends and I all disliked the WAP we don't know if it was the mezcal or what but something/some sort of spice burnnned and not in the good i'm buzzed way lol. Looks like they changed their drink menu which you can just use their QR code. Staff are all friendly. It took a while for them to attend to us sometimes when we pressed the button in the room but i assume they were busy with patrons outside. read more

OMG!!!! This is my new favorite place!!!!!!! A group of friends and I went last night and had SO much fun! Before I get started on the details, I'll note that this review is for a private room karaoke experience. (There is also a main bar/room with a karaoke stage, but it has not opened due to COVID.) First, you can book your experience online. I would imagine this place is going to get super popular, so I would suggest booking a room as soon as your know you want to go! You can see time slots and room sizes all online and choose what is best for you. (Currently, rooms aren't at full capacity, due to COVID.) You will pay during your booking, and it is non-refundable, but I believe I did see you can transfer a booking if needed. They'll send you a confirmation email, and then you just wait until the day comes! There is plenty of street parking nearby. I am not sure if they have any parking of their own, but otherwise, it is pretty accessible on Market Street in NuLu. Upon entering, you'll check in at the front desk and be shown to your room. Each room has a TV and the walls are lined with benches. Your concierge (server) will show you the ropes, including the microphones, the iPad you use to control the karaoke system, the button to order drinks (yes, you never have to leave your room, so you don't have to miss a moment of action), and everything else you can need. I was also super impressed with their COVID and sanitary pre-cautions; they had all kinds of things, like microphone covers! You can order cocktails (the menu is awesome, as were both of the drinks I had), start looking up songs, and let the night get started!!! The iPad app has all sorts of great options, and they truly seemed endless. I even looked up a 90s country music start and got at least 20 songs as results. From oldies to newbies, there are so many options. You can also queue them up and easily change between songs, skip a song (when you realize--oh, that isn't what I thought, or oh, that is harder to sing than I remember), and so on. My friends and I had a field day picking out fun songs, and while we took turns on the microphones, we overall picked jams that everyone could sing along to! I had not done this style of karaoke since college (when there was a place on Preston Highway that offered it), but dang... IT IS SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!! And NoraeBar just takes it to another level!!!!!!!!! Everything is so cute, the vibe is so much fun, and the employees are super cool. Big shout out to Morgan who took GREAT care of our group!! We never went thirsty and got all of our needs taken care of. Each room even has its own little air conditioning unit, and Morgan adjusted ours as needed. If I could afford it, I would be here every weekend! Not normally one to leave reviews, but I had to discuss my experience at this bar. As a traveler I always try to think of myself of an observer because I don't always know the local customs or "flavor". I have to say that the place had a great atmosphere and everyone seemed to be having a great time! It was a Friday night and it was busy but I never had to wait for a drink. I enjoyed the selections, especially the sakes and other drinks from Asian countries I had not seen before. The bar would get five stars but it is a karaoke bar and I did not enjoy the person managing the songs. She was disorganized and it seemed like she wanted to be anywhere else. I noticed that she frequently moved others ahead of me in line, which is not what should be done when it costs to sing, even if it's just $2. I don't care about the small fee to sing but it should guarantee one's place in line. Otherwise, it's one of the best times I've had anywhere, including much bigger cities. We wanted to do something fun for a friends birthday & booked a private room for some karaoke. Nulu on the weekends can be a nightmare for parking, since if you don't show up on time for your room, you lose it, So Plan accordingly!! There is a main bar in the front of the establishment with a large karaoke stage for anyone comfortable enough with singing public. They have a small patio area w/ a few patio tables in the front as well & they had a DJ playing the night we went. The private rooms are in the back. The rooms are a bit small for the size of group we had, they had booth style seating lined up against the walls & colorful mood lighting. They have air unit in the room & a fan in the room. don't know if all the room were as smalls as ours, Nevertheless we made the best of it & had a blast! There was a pitcher of water & plastic cups on the table ready for our arrival. There are no paper menus, you can see the drink menu on QR code that on the table & with a push of a button in our room a server takes the drinks orders & brings the drinks when available. The karaoke setup is easy to use, there is a tablet that is linked to the TV & 2 wireless microphones on a charging station. Selecting song & setting up a queue & even editing the queue was a breeze!! Gender neutral bathrooms, they have an open one & a a couple of single stall private ones. The drinks & prices were decent. I started coming here when the Lou Bar bingo started and this was one of the many places participating. I have come every week that the bingo was going and this place made the best tasting drinks of any other of the places I have been to. With that being said Norae knows how to make good drinks. I'm not very big on karaoke but I can tell this would be a good place to come and dance and I definitely want to bring some friends here for a girls night out. HAD THE BESTTIME 10/10 would recommend! The service was amazing and kind! I even lost my mask and they gave me a new one for free! I felt so safe and enjoyed the space provided for customers!! We had so more fun than we expected to!! The business was clean and beautiful!! The interior design choices were amazing! I loved the use of a tablet to order drinks and for selecting songs in our private room. We were a a few minutes late due to transportation but called ahead and let the bar know! I knew this would be a blast because I spent two summers in South Korea & we went to Noraebong spots all the time to do karaoke with just our group in private rooms. I always wished that was a thing in the States & now it's a thing in our city! The booking process was smooth, the staff were friendly on site, & our server was awesome & very attentive throughout our time in the room. The cocktail menu was so creative, inspired by both the Pacific Rim that the concept originated in as well as our own bluegrass bourbon. I tried the Suit & Tie which was a take on Thai Iced Tea with bourbon, sweetened condensed milk, tea, simple syrup, Thai basil & house made orange essence. It was a perfect cocktail, but definitely the kind of thing that could easily sneak up on you, so I stuck with the one. I'd like to try the Truth Hurts cocktail next time, which is mango sticky rice flavors in a cocktail. So that means I'll have to book another session soon for a safe, fun night out where you can feel a little bit normal in the middle of everything crazy going on in our world right now. I had the pleasure of being given a tour offered by Matthew. The facility has a variety of different sized rooms for private karaoke and a large open space for communal karaoke. When I stopped by the business it was a day that they weren't open yet but he kindly gave me a tour of the facility in preparation for a birthday party I was going to hold there. BEST BIRTHDAY EVER! I booked a small private room for my birthday last night and the dinner beforehand ran longer than expected and I was worried I'd have to forfeit my room. They said they were completely booked for the night, but then a bigger room ended up being available so they modified my reservation to put us in the bigger room an hour later. It was SO worth it! *This is an updated review* A few months ago, I wrote a review about a terrible experience at Noraebar and the one of the owners contacted me to fix the issue. I was hesitant at first to accept the offer but my girlfriends encouraged me to try it again. I accepted their offer of having a private room and comped beverages. I gifted the experience for a friend as I hope his would be a better experience for her birthday unlike the one I had. We were about 20 minutes late, our dinner ran over. I called ahead of time to let them know we would arriving late. I got there I checked in and was escorted right away to our room. The room fit our party of 6 comfortably. The hostess have a brief overview of how the karaoke worked and we were on our way. They provided a complimentary seltzers in addition to a some orders of beverages. The rest of our party arrived and we had a ball. Two hours of singing songs and celebrating my fiends birthday. "She told me after that it was one of the best nights she has had in a long time." I'm glad that this experience was wayyyyy better then the one before. I especially want to recognize the owners for addressing the issue and stepping up to fix it. They didn't have to but they did and that made a major difference in having customers return again. read more

I decided to come here for my birthday because I absolutely LOVE karaoke and I normally go to Akikos but this place seemed really interesting considering they had private room rentals which is perfect for a celebration during COVID. I had never been here prior but I did rent a room and as soon as my party and I arrived we were greeted by a nasty bartender (brown hair and beard) who proceeded to tell me and another member of my party that the bar is 21+ only (obviously?) we were celebrating my 25th birthday. I told him everyone in our party was over 21 and he said "Okay then prove it" in the RUDEST way possible. Keep in mind I had not even had a chance to check in with the host to have everyone's I.D.s checked as normal. I.D.s we're handed to him and he said "You are going to get checked again" Then after we got in the room, we had 7 people in our party and 5 different tabs but we had to make an effort to make sure all drink orders were taken because after the host took 1 drink order she would go to leave the room and there were 7 of us! There is a great song selection and I loved the private room idea. I had such high hopes but I have never been treated so poorly in a bar.. not sure if we will be back. read more

I came in from Tx to this bar in the middle of NuLu and I walked in and it was so clean and nice. I love how friendly everyone is, even met the owner (this his name was Zach) and his daughter Dena, and a lot of the locals in the area. The place was so inviting and the dj host heather was awesome tooo! Not only that, the drinks were pretty damn good too. I had the mule drink, called me bright side. I think I drank 8 of them lol. Jed n Paula the bartenders attended to me when I was at the bar sitting by myself. Had an amazing night, made new friends, and probably coming back for a second night before I have to leave! This used to by my all time favorite bar and I would defend it as the best karaoke bar in Louisville for years. When I first started going 3 years ago, I'd go 2-3 nights every weekend to every other weekend I loved it so much. The last two years I've gone less but most times it was a blast. I even celebrated my birthday there twice, both times being amazing despite some sour moments with one of the KJ's on the first birthday. That's where the other shoe drops. This place is amazing until you get on a KJ's bad side. To outline everything would be an endeavor, but I've been told I don't tip when I'll tip 20-25% (in cash) of however many songs I buy (on Venmo) which when I first started going would be 10-20 songs and then over the last two years 3-10. I've been told I can't save tickets and to ask for a refund but then when I do that this same KJ will get upset and will even pull the refund out of their tip jar to make me look bad. The first birthday I celebrated there two years ago, the KJ made such a stink at the end of the night that following nights I would avoid her and sometimes would walk in and right back out if I saw the back of her head. Since that night I stopped asking for refunds on songs I didn't sing but tried being positive, viewing those lost songs as an additional tip. On nights when I chanced her as the KJ I gave her the benefit of the doubt and had great times! It was clear she was trying to make up for how she treated me and I appreciated that. I hoped she also noticed that I didn't ask for refunds and that I was tipping via Venmo so she could see the tip or would make it very obvious by putting cash into her tip jar. Apparently she didn't. Because the last time I went this past January, she yelled at me again. She skipped a song I'd had up on the screen and didn't call my name. I had a bad habit of disappearing to Spinellis or checking out other bars and then coming back so I figured she assumed I went home for the night, "no big deal!" I thought. So I tried letting her know I was still there by saying "I noticed you skipped my song, I just wanted to let you know I'm still here!" She took that the wrong way and got defensive and proceeded to literally yell at me. She said she "always tries to do right by me but never seems to get it right." She said I "give her anxiety just be being there" and I "make her want to go home." Keep in mind that for the last two years since the birthday incident, I made it a point to avoid her and when I did see her wouldn't complain or ask for refunds and that this night in particular, I was having a great time! Admittedly, I shouldn't have disappeared as much as I did, and I shouldn't have bought songs in bulk or put requests in bulk. Maybe I should've made it a point to really let her know there were no hard feelings after the birthday incident. But while I was wrong in some ways and perhaps entitled in other ways, regardless, I didn't deserve her yelling at me and I didn't deserve her insinuation that I don't tip when I do and that I always complain when I complained one time on my birthday two years ago and haven't since. While she did come up with a solution that I felt was fair. I found out later from a friend of mine who's a regular there that she was talking bad about me to him and he felt she was trying to get him to talk poorly of me as well. I also went yesterday and couldn't help but notice the staffs demeanor towards me had changed so I can only assume she did the same thing on that front. Suffice to say, I won't be back. I doubt I'll be missed, but I'll always remember the wonderful nights I had. Farley, you were the best bartender ever. You were there my first night and you've remained consistent every time since. Shaye, I loved singing duets with you and every time you were the KJ I had such a blast, I'm glad you were the KJ on my second birthday! You always made me feel special and I'm gonna miss you. We rented a large private room for all of us because while the vibes and cocktails were immaculate - our singing was not. Having a private room for karaoke is a game-changer! We were able to load up and belt out all the hits without having to anxiously wait for our name to be called in a room full of strangers. However... as soon as the drinks hit and our time was up in the private room, some of us were brave enough to face the main room's stage (which is open to the public). All in all, it was an incredibly unique experience that we'll never forget. Memories were made. Happy tears were shed. Norae Bar is one of the only games in town for private room karaoke, but thet's the extent of the positives, in my opinion. Whatever karaoke service they subscribe to frequently has inaccurate lyrics, but far more importantly, the lyrics are very poorly synchronized with the songs. Do the microphones work? Maybe. Maybe they're not charged when you show up. There is no drink menu available and the rooms have no ventilation so while they have fans and AC to keep you comfortable, the rooms smell pretty bad. In fairness, your nose deadens to it quickly. The service is good. The selection of drinks is okay if you access the menu on your phone by visiting the website, though they may or may not have the drinks advertised there. It's just weird. How does a karaoke bar have lousy lyrics and poor synchronization? That said I do always have fun, but I am also always blown away that there are simple things that seem to be done poorly. read more
