No bells and whistles, but clean, comfortable, and a great breakfast included in the price. The staff spoke English well and were always very helpful. Just a short walk from the lake, shopping, and government building. A 25 minute easy walk to the warehouse district. My only recommendation would be to ask for a room high up or at the end of the hall because it was kind of loud. You can hear everything happening in the hallway.

They made us coffee and helped get everything prepared before I could take it to the room. I was both annoyed at how damn nice they were and also really happy that there was a staff that was so helpful and caring. Breakfast is fairly pricey at 19 euros, but there are a couple of bakeries nearby if looking for lighter and cheaper fare. While on a busy street, the rooms are very quiet. The U-bahn stop is literally in front of the entrance, so it's very convenient to get around, which is good, because the neighborhood is pretty dead at night.

The subway (station Rödingsmarkt) is just two minutes from the hotel. PS: they do charge 20 euros per night for parking.

Pluses: The mattress was on the thinner side but comfortable. I've heard that they have a small gym, however, during my entire stay the gym was closed for renovations. They did have the option of the use of nearby hotel gyms, but with how cold the weather was I refrained. The room size was large including the bathroom with a large shower tub combo. Room was nice and clean too! The breakfast buffet was 12 Euro but pretty extensive with fruits, meats, eggs, pancakes, pastries, cereals, yogurt, etc. The H2O Restaurant & Bar had very affordable glasses of wine. Small refrigerator in the room. The heater kept me very very warm! Good curtains to keep out the light. My taxi was ready pretty much right outside after the front desk hung up the phone. Friendly staff. Location! Free wifi for multiple devices. Minuses: I was surprised to see that the comforters are so short here though! They are also separated by side (think two twin comforters for a king size bed) so one person gets one each. Luckily I was by myself, so I used both. They included for the bathroom - hand soap and built in bottles of shampoo and condition by Face Stockholm. I was surprised to see no hair conditioner though. And the shampoo left my hair a little flat. The lights are turned on and turned off by your keycard by inserting it in the slot by the door...all the lights! This was a pain honestly. There were times there was hallway noise, I think they may have staff working even in the middle of the night? I would give it a 3.5 but rounding up due to the fact I had a few more pluses rather than minuses. It's about a 10 minute or so walk from the majority of things to do (i.e. sightseeing attractions and shopping), but is located near some great restaurants, Rossmans, coffee shops and right next to the U-Bahn. Also, be forewarned the elevators here have blue lighting, which is trippy and not be a good idea to be drunk when staying here. The Scandic is a good option for staying in Hamburg...now if only they could get different comforters.

(IN A DIFFERENT HOTEL) Travel weary after a long day of flying, working and dining -- I rolled up to the trendy 25hours hotel ready for some sleeping. Instead, I was met with a crowded lobby full of sports enthusiasts (near midnight) and a somewhat unapologetic reception guy telling me they'd been overbooked. WHAT? Let's pause here for a moment -- I do not understand a hotel being overbooked. The number of rooms is static, not variable. Every night they have the same number. They should book this number of guests, no? The reception guy assured me this happens "very often" but in all my travels all over the place the past 7 years, this has not happened to me one time. However, I get it. Things happen. He told me that they'd pay for my transport to the other hotel and quickly ushered me out to a taxi and gave me a voucher for it. They'd rebook me to the new hotel for my stay. Ok, fine. Let us get on with the show, my sleep time was becoming shorter and shorter. Please keep in mind at no point did he write down the name of the new hotel, or direct the taxi driver or really help me with anything at all. For a hotel that mega-f'ed up on obverbooking, I'd expect that they'd at least treat this major inconvenience with some grace. Can you see where this is going? My taxi driver, who I assumed had been given proper directions to where ever I was to be sleeping that evening -- drove me over to the 25 hours Altona. Which seemed sensible I'd be sent to their other property. But in fact, after driving 15 minutes and showing up at reception -- they were also overbooked and I was mistakenly driven there by the unsuspecting taxi driver who had not been given directions. Oy vey, 25 hours. Seriously. So now here I am, past midnight at the second hotel of the evening -- with no room at the Inn. Is this a christmas story? I need a manger and a donkey, I don't even care at this point I just want to sleep. Luckily my taxi driver had to come back in after she dropped me because the voucher hadn't covered the whole journey and she needed some cash. So after forking over 10 euros of my own money to cover the errant journey, I hopped back in the car with her (and another subpar voucher) to go BACK to Hafencity to check into the Hotel Ameron, the correct hotel. I gave her the voucher (15 euro) plus some more of my money to cover the joyride around Hamburg and prayed that this was actually the place I might sleep. And it was. It's a fine hotel and very nice so that's not really the issue. The 1 star for 25 hours is based on their extremely poor communication, customer service and for overbooking me in the first place. How about this? If someone hasn't checked in yet -- maybe CALL THEM and save them the trouble? Or just don't take too many bookings? Or if you do perhaps handle it like professionals and not like some teenagers at their first job. Not impressed.
