I had the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. I rested the eggs scrambled EXTRA well done and they came out runny and so soft it was gross. As you can see the hash browns are burnt beyond recognition as potatoes. The steak came out with a small ladle of cream gravy on it. I did ask for an extra side of gravy, and the server was very accommodating. The only good things about this breakfast is that the gravy is yummy, the biscuit is very fresh, and the portion is enough for three meals (if cooked well). This has been our breakfast choice for the last 10 plus years. The staff Heather, Maria and Adela are the best. They know exactly what we want and how we want it. No need to explain nothing to Heather she is always on top of our order and our cups never run out of coffee or the drink of our choice. We visit at least once a week sometimes even more. This is one of my go-to places for breakfast, especially when I'm in a rush. I've never had to wait to be seated here, even during COVID, and that's a great thing. The food here is your typical diner fare with big portions and reasonable prices. All of the servers I've had were very polite but they all work at different places so sometimes we wait 10 minutes for our food, sometimes 25 minutes, but overall not an amount to complain about. The food is good and filling, don't come here if you want something light. The pies are great, cherry is my favorite. We haven't stopped in for lunch yet but it seems more suited to families. And yes, they have family sized entrees and sides so if you're looking for that, try this place out. I've ordered to go a few times and I have yet to have an issue, the order is always correct and the food is good as when you eat in, though I will say the portions are smaller since they're fitted into a to go box. This place was awesome! The decor was from back in the 50's & 60's. We had the chicken fried steak, meat loaf and roast beef! Everything we had was a hit. If you want a good southern home cooked meal; this is the place to go! This family friendly restaurant is amazing and the food is absolutely delicious. I got the chicken fried steak and Gravy, Mac and cheese, green beans and a salad. My friend got the pot roast, Mac and cheese, rolls and sautéed spinach. Our food was so hot I almost burned my mouth it was so good!! You can get breakfast all day however the lunch/dinner is my favorite. When it's time for American food, Norma's is one of our favorite places. There was a line for Sunday lunch, of course, but we waited. I was on a mission. I had seen a picture of Old Number 7, a breakfast dish. It was beautiful! I had to have it. We were seated and the tea, rolls, and cornbread arrived. Love the sweet cornbread. When we ordered, I went braindead, and ordered my normal, chicken and dressing, greens, and glazed carrots. What happened?! Of course it was good, and I tried cranberry sauce for the first time. A while back, pre-covid, this was a go-to place for lunch for my wife and me. My wife loved their chicken tetrazzine, that was a special on both Tuesdays and Thursdays. I loved their chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken. They are advertised in their menu as eNORMAous. The service was always wonderful and we loved to go there. We just went there today for lunch t They are now terrible, awful, horrible and disappointing. 1. The guy who waited on us couldn't speak English well and misunderstood my order so it arrived wrong. I ordered a dinner salad as a substitute for two vegetables, as I had done countless times before. What arrived was a double order of the small LETTUCE ONLY salad. How can you call lettuce alone a salad even. Imagine putting the lettuce from Gazebo Burger's fixin's bar as a salad. Just ridiculous. 2. I asked to speak with another server we've had many times before, Robert, and our server went over and told him something, but Robert did not come to our table until I went over and asked him to come over. He was kind enough to rectify the salad error, but of course the entrée arrived about the same time. Not the best customer service. Not even one star. 3. The chicken fried chicken arrived, and it was 1/2 the size of their previous version. Obviously, in their effort to cut costs, their CFS and CFC are now NORMAminumums. Definitely, false advertising to call it eNORMAous. What a disappointment, and on top of everything it was not hot either. Almost anywhere I've ordered CFC it was much bigger than the mere portion NORMA's served. 4. My wife ordered her favorite tetrazzine and it was both cold and soupy. There was also very little chicken. In the past, this dish was loaded with chicken and was thick with flavor. Now it is ridiculously cheap and not much of a special at all. She would normally take a to-go box of it home. This time she left it on the table. 5. Several of the other wait staff stopped by to see if they could help, but we NEVER saw our original waiter again. I guess complaining about him was too much for him. I did overhear another table he was waiting on complaint that he go their order wrong, too. Finding good waitstaff is impossible because this guy was fumbling his way through the orders. All in all, NORMA'S is NOW off of our list of places to go for lunch or dinner. Furthermore, I'll probably start telling people I used to recommend NORMA"s to stay away. I almost never give a one start rating but today NORMA"s earned it. What a terrible disappointment. Stay away and pick somewhere else to eat. read more

I reordered the mushrooms again, which were hot and crispy as they should be, and this time I ordered the pot roast with green beans and mashed potatoes with gravy, instead of the chicken fried steak. It was all tasty, just a little heavy handed on the salt for my liking. I ordered food from Norma's for the first time today and I couldn't be more disappointed. The fried mushrooms were cold and soggy. I didn't even get two of my three sides with the chicken fried steak I ordered. It also came cold and flabby, was way over salted, and they also forgot the gravy for it. What a waste of money. One and done. Get your food somewhere else. read more

I just sent my feedback to Norma's, so I copied & pasted it here. I hope they take steps to bring Norma's back to it's former excellence. The last 2 times I have been to this Norma's, they have fallen short of what they have always been. I frequently come in for lunch on Fridays because it's always excellent. Today was very disappointing. I ordered the chicken fried steak with 2 mashed potatoes & carrots. The first order arrived with the CFS patty with almost all breading & the patty about the size of a very small hockey puck. The mashed potatoes were stale & cold. I flagged down our server who told Tabitha who came over & assured me they were remaking my order. But then Tabitha seemed to have forgotten. I waited. And waited & waited. Then I finally flagged down someone else who had no idea what was going on, but he was able to bring out the remade order. It was hot, but mediocre. Certainly someone fell short in the kitchen because I cannot imagine they thought they were cooking at Norma's usual standards. Tabitha never came back to check at all. Our server did, but I was done at that point. I still tipped the server on what the bill would have been because it's not her fault that the kitchen has decided to send out substandard food. I am a big fan on Norma's and have eaten in Frisco and Plano locations with no issues, but today I found myself at the one off Central in Dallas. Once I was seated, I apparently became invisible to the wait staff. I waited over 10 minutes and still no one came to take my order. I finally had to flag down a waitress who told me it was not her area and sent a waiter over to take my order. This waiter had passed my table at least three times without offering to wait on me. The coffee and food (biscuits and grave) were good as usual, but the service was definitely a negative. I'll probably not stop at this location again and can't recommend the Dallas location due to the poor service. read more

Key word in the term "meatloaf" is that there should be meat in the dish. I don't know what that was, but it could in no way have been meat. If I get sick, Norma will hear from me. Very good! The decorations are eclectic which can sometimes indicate outdated or unclean. Norma's is neither of these things. They are vintage without the dust / dirt, and dilapidating booths. Seriously, visit here and you will see what I mean. The food was good, better than many breakfast / brunch experiences I have had in Dallas. My eating companion and I had BLT sandwich and the 1/2 order of French toast. Both were made well and tasted exactly as one would expect. The French toast was not dry or having undertones of anything odd. Further, it was not soggy; it was just well made French toast at a fair price. The BLT was standard issue - which let's be honest unless you are feeling adventurous standard issue is a really good thing. I must comment on the servers. They were friendly without being overbearing. They seemed to work together in checking on drinks and needs at one another's tables. The vintage aspect seemed to fit together and was well kept. We watched tonight as one of the more experienced servers told Venus what had been done for closing and apparently had the GALL to ask him to take on other tasks.
