I have mixed feelings about this rental experience. On the other hand, it was a little rough around the edges. Their website pricing is out of date. They also charge a flat fee for gas surcharge. Online they say they offer a half hour rental for a jet ski, but once I arrived that wasn't an option. Hour minimum - understandable - but would be nice to have the information correct online. I walked by Randy's and couldn't get ahold of him on the phone, couldn't figure out which building to approach with all the signs, so I almost gave up on the boating idea. I would recommend texting him to coordinate - he was very responsive to texts. The jet ski I rented was dirty, and the first one they tried to set me up on wasn't working. Also note they have a vague rule that you have to stay where they can see you. That was a little strange for a boat rental place. Overall it worked for the purpose of getting out on the lake last minute, but is no luxury experience.

One of the my best core memories was made here this past weekend. We were able to book one of the…read moregroup camping grounds and have such a lovely place to stay for 4 days and 3 nights. We got to climb the fire tower, fish at the local lakes and dams, dance around with our family and friends, and enjoy the stars at night. Everything is very clean when arriving. Bathrooms are outhouses that are well maintained, but once toilet has ran out we didn't get much of a refill. Parking space was big enough for our party and the other down the hill from us.

We visited in the fall and the park was spectacular. So many beautiful colors…read more We started with the Fire Tower Trail. The tower steps are definitely steep so hang onto the sides. Outstanding view from up top. You get a 360 view of the area and can see the lake. It was much cooler and windier up there but definitely worth the hike up. The loop around the tower is about a mile and worth it as well. We also did the Mille Lacs loop. Part of it follows the hiking trail but add another couple of miles. This was definitely worth it. Beautifully colored forests, hidden lakes, and open fens greeted us along the way. It was a very hilly route but the trails were well maintained, wide, and mostly smooth. The park is huge. We stopped in the visitor center to buy a post card and staff was helpful. Great experience.

This park is located near the Sandstone Federal Penitentiary. It is a nature park and has a decent…read moresized parking lot. There is also a picnic shelter with tables under it, nice hiking trails and a restroom facility. It is very picturesque and touts a bat hibernaculum to beautiful scenery. I would suggest bringing and putting on some bug spray when you visit here. The bugs were feasting on me. The Kettle River is easily accessible from this park. They have a boat launch there that you can set off on your kayak excursion. Robinson Park is an all-season park that offers ice and mixed climbing in the winter and sports climbing and bouldering the other times of year. The park has hiking and some small camp sites that can be reserved that have campfires and picnic tables. There is also some benches that you can sit on that overlook the river. The park does not have a playground area, any green space, basketball or tennis courts, but is still a decent spot. It is a decent park, especially for you adventurous types. It is well off of the beaten path and is a very peaceful spot. It is well maintained and does not get much traffic. I enjoyed my time there and hope to make it back there soon.

We had such a wonderful time and caught a lot of fish- mostly large/small mouth bass. Dan lived up to his WalleyeDan name and we caught a walleye as well (even with a banana on board which I learned is bad luck) It was such a wonderful experience my son loves fishing, we had a great time, Dan cleaned the fish for us and we made them for dinner that night. What a mess. He called tow companies, dealerships, lock smiths, LOTS of people to help either get us a new key or get the car off the ice. No dice, no one would come three miles out onto the lake to help out. I don't blame them, it was super cold and being out on a frozen lake isn't appealing to everyone anyway. Especially during the Polar Vortex. We pretty much felt screwed. THEN, our friend called Brandt's, asking for advice. The woman on the other end of the phone laughed, and then said she was going to send out "Dewey, a friend of the lake." She told us he was going to lower a hook and camera 30 feet down into the lake and fish out the keys. I know what you are thinking..."no way," right? Because that's what we were thinking. And then Dewey, along with his pal Ron, rolled up to the rental in a pick up truck with heavy-duty fishing gear and an underwater camera. Over the next two very tense hours, we FINALLY got the keys and celebrated by passing around a fifth of whiskey. Dewey and Ron will never be forgotten. True story. Thank, Brandt's! Well will only rent from you in the future!
