Incredible long wait for service 2 weeks ago, then when we came back to get boots as they didn't have much available then. People in the store are ANGRY, like really pissed off that we and other customers are there. Treating everyone like crap for wanting to BUY their product. One guy snaps at ever person who enters the door. Openly complaining about how busy it is and giving every excuse in the book to treat people poorly. Yes you are busy, but people want to purchase from you and make you money dude! The least you can do is be kind and considerate. If you want to be treated poorly, go there and try to ask a question or two, you'll be shut down like the back gate. I'll find somewhere else to purchase my outdoor equipment in the future, buy local my ass. read more

Such a gem for outdoor enthusiasts. They took the time to properly fit my young teen for a climbing harness and shoes. They were very patient in answering our questions and recommended how to maintain and care for the new equipment. When there was some harness fraying a couple of months later, they didn't hesitate to fix the problem. Not only did I receive excellent customer service, but I could see other customers being treated the same way. This isn't a place to go if you are looking for the cheapest equipment on the market. This is where you go if you want to speak with people who know what they are selling, will take the time to answer your questions, and will stand behind their products. They are relocating next door to a larger space and are still open while relocating. I will for sure be visiting again soon. read more

I rented snowshoes for December 31st for a $15 single day rental. I was told the store would be closing early on the 31st and to return the snowshoes by 4 pm. I was given a copious contract to sign with no copy. I arrived at 4:30 and the store was closed. The store was also closed on January 1st. The store was reopened on January 2nd at 10am and I arrived shortly thereafter. Initially, the snowshoes were accepted, and nothing was said about additional charges. When I asked, the store worker came back and said the charges were now $56 which I thought to be a total. After a heated argument with the owner, he agreed to refund $28. I didn't realize that an additional $14.70 was also charged. Initially, I was going to be charged a total of $70.60!!!! I explained to the owner that albeit the late charges in addition to the day charges may be legal, I deemed them to be unfair. Also, why should I be charged for January 1st, when the store was closed and I didn't have a chance to return the snowshoes. I have informed the BBB complaining of price gouging by the store. I am also seeking an additional refund such that I would be charged for a reasonable 2 day rental. I will not longer be purchasing or renting any more equipment from this store. I would recommend renting from MEC or Sports Rent both of which are open longer hours and from past experience, fair. read more

Found Norseman whilst looking for XC Ski gear, tried the usuals MEC etc but found that these were really competitive in pricing which on my efforts came up the cheapest. Its not a bad sized store with mainly Ski gear but they stock Snowshoe, Hiking, Tents, Packs, Roller Skis and even Canoes. They also do Rentals, Waxing Clinics and a Ski School, really friendly people with an obvious knowledge of everything Ski related, if your shopping about for XC Ski gear then definitely try these for a comparison on others in the city. read more

Or maybe you've already got the gear and just need your skis tweaked a bit. Not to worry, as the Norseman also does binding mounts, hot waxing, pine tarring of wooden skis, ski repairs, and parts replacement. That's not to say that the Norseman is solely a winter affair, though. Besides their extensive cross-country ski selection, they also have a fantastic array of hiking and backpacking gear. Their helpful, knowledgeable staff will set you up with the right hiking boots, backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, and trekking poles for your outdoor adventure. I've got friends who drive across the city to the Norseman for all their skiing needs. So not a good experience. Twelve days ago I had purchased a ski set then a sudden financial situation happened right after so I called them the next day to tell them that I could not take the package I purchased the previous afternoon. I was out of sorts and it took me 12 days to get back to the store to deal with the return. The older lady that was at the till was quick to make me feel bad that I was returning the set and that I should have come in sooner so they could have sold the boots (The receipt states 30 days) She questioned to what was wrong and I told her it just wasn't the right time to purchase for me. She overlooked everything in quite a huff and was truly just not being nice.....I guess I needed to tell this lady who I believe is the owner that I am a single mother with no child support or income and maybe she would have been a bit more understanding to why I could no longer purchase a ski set at over 500 dollars. When I do land on my feet again I certainly will not be returning to this store. I am 46 years old and have never been treated so unjustly in doing nothing wrong. She had no reason to be so rude. I hope this is my first and last write up that I have to do. read more

Not at all helpfull phoning a taxi for me after my car had trouble! Had to walk home to Lakeview. Have bought skis and boots in the past but will not go back. The people working there reminded me why we left Europe. read more

I went to Norseman upon recommendation for high quality gear from a friend. My 24-year old backcountry hiking boots gave in and I needed a new pair that would last at least that long! After visiting MEC and Atmosphere, I have to admit that the service and attention to customer was absolutely outstanding at Norseman. Justin spent at least 45 minutes asking questions about my goals, past issues and measuring my feet. I tried three pairs of great boots and bought the clear winner. Absolutely no pressure, lots of options and time to try boots out, and detailed 'testing' methods. Came out with a 'feel good purchase' despite the price tag. read more

Horribly rude salesperson! I called the store because I was just curious about the colour of a sleeping bag. Not that I really care one way or another but online there is a HUGE variation in the colour. The guy on the phone said "Are you afraid it wont match your purse?". Are you kidding me!? That is the most sexist, unprofessional thing I have ever heard. I have never been treated with such disrespect by a sales person in my life! read more

I wish I could report a happier experience here, but I cannot. I was given a pair of waxless X-C skis for Xmas. I went to Norseman to get them set up, and they assured me what I had was correct for my weight. When I got a chance to use them, I discovered that the skis were to "light" for me; that is, my weight was causing the scales to contact the snow. When I took them back to complain, the person I assume to be the manager told me that was what happened when one got the "cheap skis." (These were not all that cheap) I wrote the owner and he allowed me $100.00 on a new set. More expensive, of course. Then I found the allowance did not include moving the bindings, so I had to get new ones, That means I figure I got $20 on the old skis.The new skis do work better... altho I am still not all that satisfied. I could go back again and complain again, but I shall not. Instead, I'll get new ones at another shop and get rid of the ones I have. I shall not be returning to the Norseman again, however... ever. read more
