For students serving and preparing the fixe meal.. very commendable. I always wanted to go to a culinary arts lunch service.

Fine dining on the cheap with superb food and service!! Much thanks to fellow Yelpers putting this place on my radar! When we went, it looked like they were a bit overwhelmed as there was a huge line and the dining room was packed. We had to wait quite a bit. Despite of that, it was still an excellent meal all around. With the quality & portion of the food and the attentive service, I would have been happy paying normal prices, let alone at such unbeatable low prices! Those chefs-to-be are really talented!Needless to say, I'm extremely happy with this culinary gem!

If you go to DVC and haven't tried this place yet... what are you doing? Everything to the affordable prices to the ambience to the mouth watering dishes is perfect. I'm blown away that we have a fancy restaurant on campus. If you're stressed with homework or exams and have downtime in between classes, eat here. You'll feel refreshed and energized.

~CASH ONLY~ There is the "buffet line" (often a fan) or if you have more time, then try the "sit down" menu with FULL Service wait staff (haven't tried it yet). The buffet style menu is simple and FAB. In general, the food is perfectly cooked and usually kinda bland. I've never added salt, but often hoped for some kind of spice or something. *The various Salads are 95% on point; the house-made dressings are delicious and the greens are ALWAYS very fresh. They occasionally get super chinzy on the portion size (even as an individually purchased side). IF you're hungry between 11am-1pm head to the Norseman (looks over the fountain); for $1 you can get something delicious to hold you over until the next class *wink* IF you're really hungry then get the Entree + 2 side for $4 and you'll be pleasantly surprised. I've NEVER had never had a "bad meal" here. Although the portion sizes are often on the small side. I'll try the "sit down" restaurant and let you know...

This is my last semester at DVC, I wish someone would have told me earlier about the Norseman! The food is beautiful and delicious with a price tag hard to match. Although it's not part of the Norseman but next to it, they have an AMAZING bakery! I buy cookies and loafs of bread daily. The only downside: if you're not a student, you'll have to buy a day pass for parking.

Some of the reviews don't reflect the current setup. Here's how it works as of 2015: In the nice new HSF building on the Diablo Valley College campus, there are several places to eat. There's a cafeteria downstairs. Upstairs, there's the Express, the Pastry Shop, and the Norseman. The Express is good quality steam table food. The Pastry Shop is an excellent patisserie/bakery. The Norseman is a sit-down, white tablecloth restaurant. All of these upstairs eating spots are part of DVC's culinary programs, so students are preparing and serving the food. The Norseman is a mix of casual (because it's on a college campus, staffed by students, patronized by whoever's around) and schmancy (excellent ingredients, interesting dishes). The prices are low because it's a learning experience for the students. If you're in the area and have $3 for a parking pass, you should give it a try. You can order ala carte or do the prix fixe option, which is a great value. Everything I've eaten here has ranged from "fine" to "outstanding". P. S. M-Th lunch only, short hours.

If you are a student at DVC or work near this college campus, you need to check out this hidden gem! It's been about 15 years since I went to DVC....but now my Mom is retired and going back to school to get her culinary degree as a pastry chef. We stopped in here today to check out their restaurant because my Mom heard really great things about it. It's a restaurant ran by the hotel and restaurant management teachers and students. Today they were serving a French menu. For an appetizer we ordered the fried gnocchi and shared a beet salad. Wow....for college campus food it was phenomenal! I was totally blown away by how good it was!! The beet salad consisted of red and yellow beets marinated on top of spinach salad and yellow cherry tomatoes with a sweet vinaigrette dressing! YUM! The fried gnocchi was devoured quickly. Little bites of gnocchi fried and drizzled with a browned butter sauce with garlic. I couldn't stop eating them. Very very good! My Mom and I both got the Beef Wellington rare that was served with florets of broccoli and mashed potatoes that were not your ordinary mashers. They were crispy on top and mashy and tasty in the middle. Mmmmm! We got dessert too and had the strawberry crepe filled with strawberry yogurt and drizzled with butterscotch. Service was excellent as well. Catering students were taking orders and serving meals and our server did a marvelous job although he seemed sort of nervous. Instructors were also in the room too asking people how they liked their meals and of course my Mom was telling everyone how excited she was to be coming to school here in the Fall ;) Such a bragger! Our amazing meal came to $29.50. Deal! A meal like this anywhere else would have cost over $100. You are not going to get romantic ambiance here and the decor is so-so but for good college food, this is a must to try out sometime! I will definitely be back.....they are only open Wed and Thurs from 11am to 1pm.

Want a cheap fine dining restaurant? Always wanted to be served high class food like the monopoly guy? Well then this is your answer! This place is great, finally a fine dining restaurant that I can go to with a t-shirt on. Run by students, cooked by students, served by students, and definitely priced for students. Definitely ask your waiter what's good that day, because the menu is always changing and you never know what you're going to get. Sometimes the student cooks will turn out a bad dish, but sometimes you'll get someone who really knows what they're doing and you won't be able to compare your meal to anything else. Yes, definitely reserve a table and spend a few lunches at the Norsemen. I've enjoyed every meal i've had there

The Salmon was cooked perfectly. Exactly how I like it.
    Teri S.

Loved the care and attention given to me while dining and the beautiful presentation on each and every dish. Had the four course meal. Super delish. The rolls were fresh and pretty. Enjoyed my Salmon dish immensely. The server was pleasant and helpful. The only critique I have is I would have liked a refill on my coffee and I was never asked. No biggee. The best part was the chocolate truffles at the end. Sooo yummy. An incredible value for only $15.00 or so. Highly recommend it.

Food coming from students that are training to become chefs. The food was well prepared and presented. Hand made drinks (I ordered the strawberry lemonade) as for dessert i went with the Honey crisp with strawberry glaze along with hand made creme. my overall experience was very satisfying. I highly recommend The Norseman Grill, if you enjoy great tasting food for a reasonable price.

The food surpassed my expectations! Fresh, great quality, robust flavors. Their best deal is a soup, salad, entree and dessert for $14. Can't beat it.

When is it gonna open up again?

Is this open to the public or just students? Is it on campus?

It's open for everyone. Not just students. Hours currently are only Tuesday - Thursday. 11 AM - 1 PM. You might want to make reservations. Though not sure it's needed.…

When are they open? Each time I try to check this place out, it's closed.

What days are you open and what are your hours? Thanks, Elizabeth

You might want to get here early because it fills up quick and has limited tables available. Clean and sleek design with an efficient kitchen and staff. I ordered the majestic which consists of braised spare rib with a sauce, carrots and mashed potatoes. Our waitress was pleased when I gave her the order because she knew it was impossible to have a negative review on this establishment when you eat this dish. Outstanding quality, freshness and taste. We also ordered the fried rice with sirloin and French omelet. The chef must have spent a season in Paris because the omelet was textbook French, impressive. The sirloin was good too but my wife didnt really care for the rice. I liked the rice but it wouldn't hurt if they gave a steamed rice option. Next time we'll request that instead for a 10/10 dish. We also had the crown drink and the garden of Versailles. Both were worth trying if you come here. The presentation for the crown drink had every neighboring table turning their heads and ordering one for themselves. Our wonderful waitress suggested the drink and also got elated when we did because she knew we were gonna leave with all smiles. I believe they're owned by Lapisara Eatery which is also a well-known spot in SF. I originally wanted some classic brunch items, but their étouffée and the majestic sounded really good. Both dishes were soo yummy. The étouffée had a good amount of crab and crawfish, and it was hearty and comforting. The majestic was THE STAR. A little after they set the dish down, the meat literally just slipped off the bone. The short rib had a nice crust on the outside and was cooked perfectly inside. It was so good. My only complaint was how little mashed potatoes we got. Other pictures seem to have gotten a healthy scoop, but we got what looked like a a smear of mashed potatoes. Considering the price I wish they added a bit more. Regardless, our meal was amazing. Everyone was so kind and the inside was very trendy. I loved it!

A rush of people had left the restaurant at the same time because a sports game ended. The time to get seated was incredibly short, taking less than 5 minutes for us two. Once seated the hostess did not offer us anything, instead saying someone else would come help us and she hurried off. We sat for over twenty minutes without a single server speaking to us. In that time we had four separate parties of 1-4 all be seated around us. They all were given drinks either by hosts or servers. Two of them had orders taken. We were not asked how we were. Even after activating the "need waiter" mode on the tablet every single server ignored us. I know mistakes happen, a rush had ended and we may have been lost in the shuffle. Every server who looked at us and the tablet could have checked in. It was clearly bright and alerting. The restaurant wasn't incredibly busy, as our section was mostly empty when we entered. As we were getting up one of the servers looked at both of us, the alerting tablet on the table, and then towards the table next to us and asked if they needed help. I have to mention that all the people who were served before us were white. Most of their servers were. The hostess who sat us down also was. We are an interracial couple. I am very visibly middle eastern. It felt incredibly targeted. We would tip as much as any other party. We wouldn't treat the staff poorly. All we did was have a brown guy at the table. When we went to hand our menus and unused utensils back to the hosts the only host who showed any concern and attempted to help wasn't white. She offered to get us reseated and immediately helped. Considering the racist treatment towards us by the other staff we declined. We left promptly. I would love for someone from the management team to reach out and look at any footage of the incident to clarify what might've happened. Our reservation at check in was under my partners name and placed at 4:34pm.

The moment I touched the iPad to join the waitlist, a waitress asked how many people in our party to which my BFF and I responded, "two" and we were whisked away and seated promptly! Fantastic! During our meal, several waiters checked in on us and made sure we had ordered or if we wanted anything else! Detailed and friendly service. The second time I visited we got on the waitlist half an hour before arriving and were seated within 15 minutes of arriving. The only thing is since there is a long waitlist on Sundays, long conversations aren't very possible without various staff frequently intervening to ask if you want boxes to go... even if you're still chewing. I do understand it's to keep groups cycling through so that everyone can enjoy a meal here. F O O D My friend wanted to try various appetizers so she ordered the Korean fried chicken, crispy brussel sprouts, and earl grey croffle. I ordered the sweet maple omelette. The Korean fried chicken was great, with its wonderful crunch and flavorful hint of spice. The brussel sprouts were indeed delicately crispy as described and tasty; I couldn't stop eating them! I also thoroughly enjoyed their namesake omelette; it was a big portion too. What stole the show was the earl grey croffle!! A light crunchy yet soft croissant waffle with burrata(!!) blueberries marinated in Earl grey(!!) & basil extra virgin olive oil and their housemade blueberry marmalade was such a strange combination to imagine but a beautiful taste experience. I would have never considered adding burrata cheese with basil evoo and earl grey blueberries to a croffle but I am grateful to the skilled chef who did at this restaurant! I can't wait to come back just for this very delicious appetizer/dessert. D R I N K S My BFF ordered a coffee and I ordered the hot coconut cream latte. The coconut cream latte was dreamy and sweet. I have also tried the iced Ube latte on another visit and it was good but not as good as the coconut cream latte. It needed a touch of something else to balance the sweetness of the Ube, not sure what really. I am intrigued by the floral tonic espresso so I'll try that on my next visit! A M B I A N C E The decor and open dining area with its glass windows make the area feel airy and inviting. It's a very aesthetic vibe inside. There is chatter and laughter but nothing excessive, except the second time when we were seated by a table with unruly children, though that is no fault of the establishment, just the parents. This for sure a great place for a brunch with the girlies or a date post farmers market. Just make sure to get on the waitlist via Yelp to plan your visit ahead of time! This place is always busy, as it should be!! P A R K I N G Parking was slightly difficult to find since the farmers market was also going on at this time when we visited on a Sunday late morning but we were able to find paid street parking within 5 minutes. I would recommend planning for some extra time to find parking if you're coming on a Sunday (due to the farmers market). The second time I went on a Sunday around 11 am it took me 10 minutes to find parking and I got lucky since it was someone leaving the farmers market. Also please note that the farmers market closes the streets that Google Maps will try to take you through to get here.
