Very caring, efficient staff in an exceptionally clean environment. I had Kidney Stone surgery last week. The pre-op prep, & then my post-op recovery were as pleasant as they could be. The nursing staff were all very kind & compassionate, even though I was beyond anxious. Thanks to the nursing staff I was made as comfortable as possible during my stay. After my surgery I was awakened, given time to come around, then informed on aftercare, & sent home to recover. I was happy with my experience, despite having a several hour delay because my surgeon was running late that day. read more

The actual surgical center, staff, intake process, etc., and care quality are absolutely excellent at this facility. I have never had staff treat me so well and so kindly from the time we entered the door to the outpatient surgical clinic until we left. This review's rating is solely about the billing practices at St David's. The only truly negative, and frankly completely unacceptable, part of my experience has been the St. David's billing department. It is atrocious. I would rate it 0/5 stars and strongly advise anyone to avoid St. David's unless they have absolutely no alternative solely for the billing experience and absolute nightmare that results after your procedure. This is despite the completely excellent surgical staff, nurses, etc., plus my amazing OB/GYN and his team. For the level of care and expertise of the staff, again, EXCELLENT. We were required to pay $900 upfront, yet we have since received at least three additional bills--each one different, each one increasing the total cost to almost double the original amount. The billing team also is very sketchy about requiring this $900 upfront - they claim they won't intake you AT ALL unless you pay for your surgery ahead of time. The bills don't even look like they're from the same organization: different paper, different formatting, and even different account numbers. When we call the surgical center to verify whether these bills are legitimate, the billing staff can't provide answers. They can't explain the charges, they hesitate to provide itemized statements, and they seem completely unaware of why multiple bills are being issued. It is infuriating and exhausting, especially for someone recovering from a fertility-related procedure. Our healthcare system is broken, and St. David's billing department exemplifies that failure. Considering my surgery went exactly as planned, there is absolutely no reason we should have received anything beyond the original bill. Think at the very least twice before getting care here. Went in for a fertility doctor's surgery. Was put under by an anesthesiologist there who either had my neck in a position that caused a nerve issue or too much meds because I still have an involuntary neck/head twitch 3 months later. They also told me a price for the entire procedure that I paid out of pocket 2 weeks ahead of time. No insurance, nothing submitted. Since paying cash they basically told me it was cut and dry price without any chance of it being lower or higher. Yet I received a $1500 bill after from the surgery center claiming that they had to do something extra. Something extra that was never discussed with me or consented for and never discussed about a possible price change of $1500! That's insane. The fertility doctor's office never told me they did anything extra, they charged me the cost of the procedure themselves to pay separate ahead of time and the surgery center was just for hosting and anesthesiology. My fertility doctor has great hands, he has put me under before without any issues for other things, but because this procedure was LAP, I had to have it here with these unsafe anesthesia providers. It was a very efficient process. There were a lot of forms to read and fill out, so come at the time they suggest. I had a colonoscopy and the staff thoroughly explained my procedure beforehand. The nurses were kind and knowledgeable. They do rush you out afterwards though. read more

Beware the Karen Here's how it works: before you are to have your scheduled surgery at North Austin Surgery Center, you will be getting an email and text from a person like Karen, who wants to put you over a barrel and take your money before you even step into the operating room. Never mind the fact that you have good health insurance, and never mind the fact that said health insurance might actually pay for some of this; you did not meet your deductible, and therefore we know how much we're going to charge your healthcare insurance. But we are going to need our pound of flesh first... so bend over so we can better get to your wallet. People like you and I might not speak the language of insurance, but neither does Karen. Both she and they just want your money. And I don't know who hurt Karen, but I know that the North Austin Surgery Center pays her to make your life miserable. There are probably at least 1,000 experiences I'd prefer over having outpatient surgery, but if it needs to happen, St. David's North Austin Surgery Center (NASC) is a fine facility in which to have it done. My interactions with the staff members, from check-in to billing to pre-procedure prep nurses to anesthesiologist & nurse anesthestist to post-procedure nurses were all nothing but positive and engaging. December tends to be the busiest month of the year for surgeons and surgical centers like NASC, as people with commercial or employer-sponsored health insurance are trying to take care of any needed healthcare services before their annual deductible resets on January 1st. This meant that the waiting room was PACKED during my recent visit. It was a little disconcerting upon arrival to find that there were no two adjacent empty chairs to allow my post-surgery driver (a.k.a. special friend) to sit next to me while we waited. No problem, as people were being called back every 5-10 minutes so it didn't take long for us to get configured for conversation. The NASC waiting area includes about 30 or so seats, 4-5 of which are extra large to accommodate those with "more to love" bodies. There are also a phone charging station, a k-cup style coffee nook, and (thank goodness!) free wi-fi with no password required. I observed one little abuela who was being kindly assisted with her check-in by a staff member who kindly helped her complete her paperwork while engaging in a "getting to know you" conversation in Spanish. YMMV, but for my procedure (which included general anesthesia), I was scheduled to come in 90 minutes prior to my surgery time. This allowed plenty of time to fill out paper work, process my payment (half up front, the remainder through a payment plan over the next 4 months), and get prepped for my procedure. I was glad that my special friend was able to come back with me and wait the entire time until I was out of surgery, and then stayed with me until I was cleared to leave. Protips: 1. Be sure you fill out the online form before you go and list your pickup person as one of your emergency contacts. My show up time was 730am and I was only 1 of 3 patients in the waiting room. The coffee machine was out of order, perhaps due to Covid which was disappointing for my pickup person. And we still have to wear a mask. They called me in almost immediately for my Colonoscopy. You have to take off all your clothes and put them in to a bag and you put on a gown and a cap. The hardest part was just laying there all hooked up to IV and all until my turn which was 930am Everyone was very nice and friendly and explained what they were doing at every step. They said they do about 20 patients a day all with various procedures. Dr Reddy is who performed my procedure. I had been to his office about a week prior and he was funny and nice. I haven't been put under since I was a high school kid so it's been over 35 years. I overheard one patient who admitted that she couldn't fully finish her prep. I hope they were able to help her but It would be disappointing to go through all of that and find out that they couldn't do the procedure. I saw Dr Reddy when they wheeled me into room and that was the last I saw of him. I woke up in the recovery room and it was all very easy. I was out the door and done by 1030am. They called my pickup person who pulled in front and they wheeled me out to the car. Different people recover differently and they recommended taking it easy the rest of the day but I was fine. The facility was very nice and so were the staff. My pickup person would have been allowed to stay with me in the post op but I told him he could go on home until they called him back since he was so close by anyway. They emailed me a few days before the procedure to tell me exactly how much it would be. There were no problems at all. read more

My daughter had a kidney stone procedure. At the time of the procedure, we set up an automatic payment plan to pay our portion of the bill in "four easy installments." In spite of that, the billing office has sent me a statement every month demanding that I pay the balance in full. And on top of that, each statement has been at least a couple weeks behind in accounting for what I had already paid. I tried calling their billing office multiple times, but no one would answer. I left messages, but no one returned my calls. When I finally got through to someone, she said the billing office had no control over the statements (really!). When I pushed the issue, she hung up on me. I finally got to someone more reasonable who acknowledged that their system was sending out statements that the company knew were inaccurate and misleading. She emailed me a separate form that shows what I have paid and the future amounts that are due each month. read more

Recently had surgery done at NASC. I had biopsy and surgery done. Medical staff did not label biopsy tissue with proper ID as required and Doctor could not used the biopsy report until I get DNA test done. Medical people need to pay more attention to the patient, that's what they are there to do. My doctor is a very good doctor and no way responsible, this is on people working in NASC. read more

This was my first time at this center. Every single person I come in contact with was friendly, they answered all my "I read online" questions without judgement. They explained everything there were doing and why they were doing it. I was so relaxed and not anxious at all. I filled out all my paperwork online prior to appointment and handled billing the day before over the phone. So all I had to do was sign some paperwork. I highly recommend this place. read more

I've had two surgeries here, and the staff from start to finish both times in March of 2013 and February of 2014 were grade A+. My review is more specifically focused on the most recent of the two procedures, though. The front desk and registration staff is courteous, which is great for a 6:30 arrival time. They seem to understand that incoming patients are nervous, exhausted, hungry and thirsty from preparing for the surgery the night before. The intake nurse I had the pleasure of meeting, I believe her name was Jenny?, helped put me at ease while discussing the nature of the procedure and anesthesia. She had a kind smile, and while I could tell she was friendly and kind, she was not over the top with personality. She even helped explain a few side affects the anesthesiologist didn't think to mention. The anesthesiologist, Dr. Bale, was reassuring and calm and listened to my concerns about my reaction to anesthesia. He was very perceptive to the physical attributes that he said caused those reactions and would make sure I was given the attention needed throughout. He even discussed equipment use with my husband for a good 5 minutes or so. My doctor performing the procedure, Dr. Kaylen Silverberg, helped me relax with his compassion and confidence to take care of me. He reiterated the points he discussed in our pre-op appointment including the length of time he would spend on surgery, and he gave my husband an idea of how long he would be waiting for me before going into recovery. He also went out and discussed the operation and results with my husband just after surgery, and let my husband know he could come back to see me after a while. Once I was in recovery, Sherry and Anna attended my needs and were there whenever we needed them. If I was nauseated or in pain, one of them would make sure I got the meds I needed while the other checked on me periodically to make sure I was doing ok. They weren't overbearing, but they were always available with compassion and professionalism beyond our expectations. They didn't rush to get me out of there, and they didn't try to add to my bill with unnecessary or excessive items. They made sure, however, I had the right supplies going home once I was ready to leave. I even got a call from Anna asking how my recovery was going, and she spent time with me on the phone as though she really wanted to make sure I was alright. I hope any future surgeries I may have are at this facility or one just like it. It was the best experience I think I could have had in my situation. read more

had a procedure to remove a kidney stone via the soundwaves. the medical staff put me under, the doc searched for the stone using ultra sound and stopped the procedure 45min due to that I had passed the stone the night before. Received my EOB from BCBS and seen that the facility billed the insurance company for the FULL procedure and added a modifier indicated that it wasn't complete. I had to pay over $900 to be able to go through the door to get this done. Now I am seeking a refund for an amount based on what was done to me during my visit. I'm not seeking the full amount but I should be getting back close to have I would think. I had a colonoscopy with a different surgery center and only had to pay like $260 out of pocket. Called BCBS and filed a complaint with their fraud dept. and filed a complaint with TDI for insurance fraud. Now I am dealing with the surgery center on having them change the coding that was used and actually bill BCBS for what actually transpired within their facility. The billing manager Angie refuses to call me back or BCBS back. Now I have left a VM for the Administrator of the entire surgery center - Stacy Burrows to call me back. Every person I came in contact with on the staff was kind, knowledgeable and competent, from the nurses to the anesthesiologist. My recovery nurse, Marisa, was incredibly caring, which is exactly what you want when you are going into surgery. I highly recommend this facility. read more

This place is terrible. They engage in active price-gouging WELL (almost 10x) above market for very simple procedures. Regardless of whether these costs are being passed along to insurance (which results in higher fees for everyone), or to patients, it is sickening. I am very disappointed that my doctor chooses to work with them and will never voluntarily give them any of my money. read more

I had shoulder surgery there last Tuesday. Everyone was very nice and professional. I was able to Pre-register online which was a big help. The nurses and anesthesiologist were all easy to talk to and very willing to answer questions. My husband was included in all conversations and made to feel welcome. My nurse, Betsy was wonderful. She helped me get dressed and made sure I got in the car and seat belted in. They even called the next day to make sure I was OK. If I ever need outpatient surgery again, I will keep NASC at the top of my list. read more

I have to thank Kelly, Anna, Vanessa, and another nurse (can't remember her name) for making my visit at the surgery center very pleasant from start to finish. Everyone was nice and friendly. They made my stay very comfortable even though my surgery started 8 hrs late. I didn't mind because someone was having complications during surgery and I only wanted the best outcome for them. The next day my check in nurse from the day before came to check on me even though she didn't have to. They were all professional and compassionate. I loved how they let me rest without being overbearing. They made sure my husband was comfortable too. I will recommend this place to my friends and family for surgery. read more

I went in for a laparoscopic surgery, and I had a terrible experience. First the several nurses were confused talking amongst themselves about me on the other side of my curtain. Then after talking to each other about my chart for about 10 minutes they asked me what happened then the situation got fixed. This was my very least complaint as it just spiraled downhill from here. I kept my underwear on because I was on my cycle and had a pad on. When I woke up from the anesthesia they removed my underwear and attempted but failed to change my pad. They put the plastic facing my vagina (sorry if it's tmi) and the absorbent pad facing away from me so I woke up in a small puddle of my blood. Mind you there was about three older nurses and a male anesthesiologist in the surgical room so this makes me think they let him, the one male in the room, change my pad. Afterwards they gave me the pictures of my insides but it wasn't my name on the paper and I told the nurse about it and she just slapped on one of my info stickers on it and didn't even make sure they were my pictures. Lastly, I know my throat would be sore from intubation but whoever tried to nicked my lip and now it's swollen and scabbed as well as my uvula (ball in the back of throat). I'm sure others had a wonderful experience but I sure as hell didn't. read more

This place is all about money. I have read reviews on Facebook and I have the same experience. They refused to do my procedure because I didn't pay a bill that is 9 years ago. Travis needs how to be professional on a phone and how to talk to people. Travis said they will not do it till I pay my 9 years ago bill down to the 8 cents. This place is really all about money money. Its a disgrace on this place. Especially when I been disable due to an accident by a drunk driver in austin. I hope North austin surgey center never go through any hard times in life. Its truly a disgrace this place turns people away when they can't pay. I am so sick of this.
