Not a huge stock of books, but a good selection that is well maintained nonetheless. Plus, the friendly staff, will help you reserve from other Barnet libraries for a small fee and as a result, I've saved a fortune borrowing books that otherwise would have cost me far more if I'd bought them. It has a cosy atmosphere and a basic but serviceable coffee machine which takes tokens you can purchase at the desk, and have your coffee whilst reading the days papers plus a small selection of periodicals. DVDs are reasonably priced and, again, you can reserve if another library has it in stock which they usually do. Much cheaper than iTunes or buying on demand if you don't watch quite enough films to warrant a Netflix or other subscription, or just cant afford it. Computers are useful and can be reserved if necessary and very handy for printing and photocopying. Wish the opening hours were more flexible with some Sunday opening even if this required some restricted opening during weekdays and it would be lovely if money could be made available to smarten up the loo. Perhaps a local entrepreneur or businessperson could donate some money for the purpose. Otherwise only other gripe is that despite a nice wheelchair friendly ramp at the front, a disabled person is then confronted by 3 steps to access the library inside. Crazy! The lovely staff do sometimes allow access through the back if requested, but this is not always possible and really shouldn't be necessary. Barnet council should really be leading the way in disabled access and should address the issue - cutting funding for such vital services as libraries, hubs of the community for adults and children alike, especially the impoverished, should not be an option. Definitely recommended overall. read more
