However, that can make it a little trickier to get to, and bear in mind any taxi rides if you are tempted by the decent value green fees. I often use a course in Balham which is more easily accessible, but the quality of this course means i will probably be back again. I've only used the driving range, but if the number of people out on the proper course are anything to go by, it seems to be a very popular place for a round of golf. The driving range is split over two levels (always opt for the top one as long as it's not raining, it's much less enclosed) and faces out onto acres of greenery. There's no annoying netting here, there's over a 250 yard distance on which to try your best swing, so plenty of space for the novice and the pro. As I mentioned before, the facilities aren't the best. But there is a bar and well-stocked shop etc. It's £5 for 100 balls on the driving range. The best thing is that it's only a short drive from the big smoke and you really do feel like you're in the countryside, which, on a sunny day, is priceless.

You can take your drinks on the course (and get refills!) which is fun - but it also means that drink glasses are all over if the staff is behind in picking them up. The biggest negatives are feeling herded through the course quickly and very loud drunk people. But overall it's worth the visit!

Well, ok, you're hitting a ball at a screen so not walking too far, but at least you're standing up and moving your arms... However, it's not easy. I've not played golf much and this activity requires some level of technique above 'aim and hit'. For a start, you have real clubs so you have to know what the benefit of each number is. Secondly, if you're not very good like me, then your ball will either go into a lake, a sandpit or nothing at all and you will get more shots. This means the embarrassment lasts longer as you take more and more shots to achieve the same distance that your better playing friend hit in one. I also liked the central location as it's inside High Street Kensington Tube station. There's a full bar inside so you can drink while you play, hoping it might relax you into being a better player. Low marks come from the fact that it's more expensive than bowling (£50 per simulator per hour at weekends). For that price, I'd rather bowl as you can get away with throwing hard and a bit of luck, whereas Urban Golf is more technical.

We called an hour or so before we wanted a slot and the woman at the front desk instantly set us up with a tee-off time even though they were pretty busy and it was last minute. She said people normally let them know well in advance of renting golf clubs as well, but she was incredibly accommodating. Our whole 3.5 hour experience here cost around 20 quid each, including renting half set of golf clubs each. An amazing deal for a golf course with really experienced members. Literally, Tiger Woods has nothing on a couple people we saw. Incredible. Several groups asked very politely to skip ahead of us which was fine as they all did it in like a shot and it took a few minutes wait. I know we slowed some people down but Cheshunt is very good with beginners and the members seem patient, all things considered. I bet they just wanted to finish up and head to the bar...yes, there is a bar. The bar does not have a large selection but it does large portions of chips and cold beer which we treated ourselves to after. Your hands will be slightly bruised from the club, your shoulders will hurt from carrying the bag, and you will be in awe of how much better everyone is but it will be so worth it! Both clubs' tee times are managed by the public golf club. Golf buggies can be hired for a cost of £15/-. The course is set among beautiful trees which at this time of the year have their Autumn colours. It is not a difficult course but can be busy. Two groups in front of us were 4 hackers who held up play. Golf etiquette is lacking here. Unfortunately a group of 3 "regulars" decided to give us a push by hitting up on us. They claimed they "could not see our buggy". There was no where we could go as we were held up. But this is a Public Course and every man and his dog can pay and play. I guess dogs have better manners. Never again in this course.

Although I don't work in the city, if I did I'd be popping in here on a regular basis to ensure my swing wasn't too rusty come the spring. I haven't checked it out but they also have a gym and normal leisure club facilities: all you need only a short walk from the office. The food is excellent too.

The staff are super friendly and give me a personal welcoming everytime I go into the club. As I work in the city, I also find it a great place to escape the office and just hit some balls for 30 mins.
