I know it's history over the last…read more30 years starting with pastor David Horner and Sam and Nell Bailey who led the college student ministry through with I came to know the Lord Jesus as my own and follow him as this couple took me out of a place of darkness and into their own home where I lived and was discipled to walk with Jesus and found them and Providence a haven of God's life, love and truth where I could grow and be grounded in. I went on to eventually be a missionary where I was sent out from Providence and served in Albania for 7 years where I met my wife and started a church there. Pastor George Tissier, who recently retired, always supported us as he did numerous other amazing works that Providence sponsors and has sponsored around the world. In hindsight, I was led to be exactly with the people I was supposed to be with at Providence. If you can find a group you fit into there and find some friends there who can help you with where you are at, you will likely thrive in a safe place where you will grow in your walk with God along with others who are called by him and serious about living for him.

Service starts with a prayer then a few songs- words are up on a screen. This has to be one of the most amazing churches in the RDU area. The experience from beginning to end was top notch. Its churches like New Hope who are leading the way for this new age church. New Hope is such a welcoming atmosphere. I was able to attend church in a pair of jeans, a t-shirt and a beannie and NO ONE LOOKED AT ME AS IF I WAS OUT OF PLACE! I was floored. I actually feel as if I fitted right in. I love the multicultural attendance. There is an amazing ratio of nationalities represented at New Hope. The word from the senior pastor was great. He was detailed yet easy to follow. He was engaging yet full of substance. They offer so much! They have a really sweet looking children's church! It looked so cool I wanted to experience it for myself. Just a few tips, get their at least 15 minutes before service time to enjoy the time to mingle. They have a full service starbucks out front and it was pretty packed at the 10:45 service. Also get there early to take advantage of the best parking options. Sunday mass is held at 9, 1030, noon, and 2 (Spanish). The 9am mass is what we usually attend. It is quick and there is not a choir. The 1030 mass does have a choir. I have not been to the other masses, but I think the noon one is generally black (they use a different songbook that has traditional gospel type songs in it). Christmas, Easter, and Ash Wednesday are always packed, arrive in advance. They are building a new building soon to accommodate for the parish's growth. Smallest Cathedral in contiguous US, but very pretty building.

Both of these churches are an outgrowth of Blue Sky Church in Bellevue, Washington. Walking in the door, everything seems perfect. Nicely dressed people, a talented worship team, a young, charming preacher. If you have studied any christian history, you'll quickly figure out they are Calvinist, and words like "elect" and "pre-destined" will be heard in the message. Outward appearance seemed to be really important to members here. People were sharp dressed, women in makeup and perfect hair. Everyone looked similar: no worn clothes, no one rough around the edges, no biker t-shirts, no tattoos, no nose rings. For a full building, it was odd at the absence of non-white people or older people. It didn't dawn on me until later that it was basically a middle class club for white college graduates. We left feeling like we had visited a plastic version of church. I'm sure there are a lot of good dedicated people here, but I just believe that you could find a place that feels more genuine, more diverse, and deeper.

If you want to sit in on a service, listen to feel-good preaching, slip out the back of the building after it's over and avoid talking to people just to check off your cultural Christian box so you can feel better about yourself and skirt accountability, Hosea is NOT the place for you. If you're curious about who God is, if you're hurting and need support, if you want to join others in worshipping Jesus, and if you actually want to grow by listening to convicting Bible-based teaching, then Hosea IS the place for you. The people at this church love Jesus, and they're not afraid of showing it. I dare you to come on a Sunday; you won't look back. We also have free donuts and coffee!
