I stopped in for a quick look at the gym, I wanted to see what type of 'cross fit exercise's/drills they had in their classes but most importantly, I wanted to see how much space they had. I took a look at the equipment, they have a lot of it however, coming from another crossfit gym in LA, the lay out was very different then what I'm used to. Additionally, they didn't have a lot of the crossfit equipment my previous gym had. Not to say that the equipment here wouldn't be effective, it just looked... limited. The two people I spoke with (Ryan) the owner as well as (Tanya, not sure of spelling), one of the trainers were both super helpful and way nice. The only real issue I have with North Rim Crossfit is the price. They are more expensive then Equinox (THE MOST OUTSTANDING AWESOME GYM EVERRRRRR, located in LA) Equinox is super pricey and well worth every penny. These guys are $70 more a month!! REALLY?? Their prices are $145 per month (month to month) or $120 a month if you buy into a year membership. They both said anyone could take one free class to see what the classes were like and also to figure out their fitness level. *I like that* The membership gets you unlimited access, Ryan mentioned that if a person wanted to attend 2 classes a day, they could. I couldn't imagine anyone actually attending two times in a day unless they were training for WWF. A bit too pricey for me and I'm not training for a fight however, it seems like a cool space to get in kick a$$ shape. read more

I love this place! They are clean, professional and personable. I've had the pleasure of working with a variety of their trainers who are all lovely people! This gym is the biggest and longest running Crossfit facility in the Chico area for a reason. As a college student looking for a crossfit affiliate to join, I couldn't have found a better community to become a part of. I had the pleasure of dropping in to this box while visiting from San Diego, and cannot say enough good things about North Rim Crossfit. Ryan immediately responded to my email and let me know that he would be there to meet us for our drop-in time/workout. He was truly professional and welcoming. One of the most desired places to workout in NorCal. I have had the pleasure of working out at several boxes throughout CA and Northrim has to be hands down one of the nicest gyms I've been. I always make it a priority to drop in for a workout whenever I am in the area visiting family. Not only do they have great equipment and super clean facility, but their coaching staff is excellent. Throughout the Crossfit community it is very well known that a gym is only as good as its programming and its coaches. From all the times I have been able to drop in, I have had the opportunity to get to know Ryan, the owner, on a personal level. Ryan and his coaches are always a step ahead in getting the proper continuing education for the sport of fitness. With so many movements involved and where technique and safety should never be overlooked, Northrim has shown to me they are superior in staying on top of these things with all of their clients, whether new or advanced. This is coming from me, a person who coaches Crossfit classes on a daily basis. Dropped in this morning from the Bay Area because of all of the great reviews and I had an awesome experience! Ryan and his team have built a really great community as I felt welcomed as soon as I walked in. The best part is that I was treated the same as any member - NRCF doesn't charge for drop-ins, but Coach Brittany coached me up there like I was a regular member. I got some great pointers on my snatch technique and hit my PR during the class! If you live near Chico, I highly recommend trying and joining NRCF. North Rim CrossFit is an amazing place. The workouts are so good, but the best part is the people and culture. Case and point; I took my three year old daughter with me to workout and she usually loves their child care, but I had just woken her up from a nap and she was really cranky and crying. It was becoming a problem, and instead of having me stop my workout to get my daughter, Shea (one of the owners) sat with my daughter one-on-one for thirty minutes while I was able to finish my workout. My daughter ended up having a great time, and I was able to get a great workout. That's the kind of atmosphere and people that run the gym. You just get the sense that they really care about people. I just dropped in a couple times over the holiday since my home box is in LA. Gotta say I really like North Rim. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable. Drop ins are free (which is awesome) and the vibe is unpretentious. They were still in the smaller space when I went but I imagine things will only get better when they move to the larger corner space. From the moment I walked in I was welcomed and felt right at home. The girl at the front desk was very friendly and professional and walked me in to the gym to meet the owner and coach. North Rim is as good as it gets. Top Crossfit spot in Chico for sure! My wife and I have been going there for half a year or so now, definitely seen improvements to our overall health and wellbeing. Coming from a background of NEVER working out, it was definitely hard at first...well still is, but it's a good hard. Overcoming the daily challenges of the workouts is the greatest feeling. They recently moved to a huge location which has been awesome to have the space for larger classes. The best part of the gym is the community for sure. Everyone is super encouraging and it doesn't' matter what level you're at, everyone is in it together. Ryan and the trainers are cutting edge, always keeping things fresh and fun. They recently even released an iPhone app to go along with the gym to help track your progress and PR's. All and all, we're stoked on this gym and are here to stay! read more

I've been coming to North Rim CrossFit regularly for about three years now and I have to say it has literally changed my life. It's the only workout routine that I've ever been able to sustain for longer than a few months. Before North Rim, I'd go to the gym for a month or two and then lose interest. That's not the case here. I've met tons of new friends and I love the positive atmosphere and coaching from Devon and Ryan. Everybody is friendly and encouraging no matter where you are at in life. To me, that kind of positivity makes the experience worthwhile. They make the workouts fun, but are also very mindful of the type of programming they do. You won't be deadlifting three days in a row or anything crazy here. CrossFit can sometimes get a bad rap for injuries and their first priority is creating workouts that push you while still giving you time to recover safely. Without a doubt, Ryan and Devon are easily the two MOST EXPERIENCED CROSSFIT TRAINERS IN CHICO. They've been regional competitors for the last few years which is a huge accomplishment. Most people who are new to CrossFit don't understand that, but basically imagine getting coached in track or swimming or whatever by two trainers that are in the top 0.5% in the country at what they do. Ryan is also certified in a lot of other programs besides CrossFit so he brings a wide variety of knowledge with him. It's not a knock on other gyms, but I just don't see the same depth and breadth of knowledge and personal accomplishments from trainers at other local spots. I've heard this reiterated countless times by other members who have switched to North Rim from other places. If you are interested in competing or a collegiate athlete, Ryan can help with that as well. The facilities and equipment are nice and they just keep getting better and better. Ryan is constantly putting money back into the business and getting more gear for his clients. From the floor to the bathrooms, everything is very clean and organized. Ryan might be a little OCD about that, but it makes the experience better for everybody. The last thing I'll say is if you think I am biased, read the other reviews. Many of them are from people who have dropped into NRCF from other gyms. I recently started checking out gyms while traveling and there is a HUGE difference. Not all CrossFit gyms are created equally. I've been to some great ones and some not so great ones. They are all owner-run so the quality varies tremendously. If people from out of town think it's a great place to workout while visiting, that's saying something. read more

I dropped in for a class and could not have had a better experience. Ryan is one of the friendliest and gregarious gym owners I've come across. He takes the time to get to know each of his clients and after an hour in his gym he knew everything about me. On top of his welcoming personality, he knows a little bit about Crossfit too! He takes his time explaining the movements and the WOD. The gym is large and very clean (we cleaned the barbell with a wet wipe after the WOD!) I love this box! Whenever I'm in town visiting family I HAVE to stop in at least once. The coaches are amazing. I've been to the box about 10 different times and have been to classes coached by a few different coaches and they are all equally great and knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The programming is challenging and obviously meticulously thought out. I always get a great WOD in and learn some new tips on my lifts. The OLY class on Saturdays is particularly awesome and typically not too big so there is a lot of individual attention - I learn so much. Best gym around! The coaches know what they are doing and have a TON of experience, all of our coaches qualified for NorCal regionals this year, (as well as in the past!) that alone tells me I'm learning from some of the best! They are very supportive and there for every member no matter what the class size! I have been a part of another crossfit gym before but it wasn't until I started at North Rim that I began to excel! North Rim is seriously my second family, it's a community and you get to know everyone and support each other! I have always felt very welcome! They have several class times all throughout the day, as well as an oly lifting class & open gym times. What's awesome is the coaches are more than happy to help you work on a new skill or lift. Also the price is incredibly reasonable compared to other crossfit gyms. I am a student and signed a contract which helped get me a great price. I have been a member with NRCF for roughly a year and a half. I LOVE this place. The programming is fantastic, Ryan (the owner) and all of the trainers are very approachable and helpful, and the members are down to earth and friendly. There is no arrogance at this gym, despite the amazing talent and strength, which is awesome. It is also super affordable (as far as crossfit memberships go). I have been to a number of other boxes and NRCF takes the cake. No egos allowed, just good times, hard work, lots of sweat, and adorable puppies. I've been working out here for several months now. My husband signed me up to change my workout routine and because he thought I needed a "new" challenge. I have worked out consistently for several years and run half and full marathons as a hobby. Coming here was initially intimidating with all the big weights and challenging workouts and I'll be honest, I was intimidated and unsure! The workouts are challenging but the encouragement and guidance is surely provided here by the coaches. There are people at different levels and the fact the coaches spend more time with those of us starting out is great. They focus on form with those of us beginners, but still challenge us. I walk out of there knowing I've gotten a great workout and surely feeling stronger. For the first time, I broke my PR (personal record) during a half marathon by 4 minutes since starting Crossfit here and was not as tired after the run. I attribute it to the training I've gotten here, as my endurance has surely gotten better. I highly recommend North Rim Crossfit! read more
