I visited the club with around 20 colleagues for a Friday lunch and we found both the service and food extremely disappointing. It certainly isn't cheap and several colleagues who have eaten there many times over the years spoke of better times under a previous chef who had a proper Chinese menu with better value for money.
Having ordered together, several mains showed up within 5-10 minutes, and a fair few within 20-25 minutes but a few colleagues were waiting longer. 2 ladies waited 45 minutes and when one of their meals eventually showed up, the other lady tried to cancel her order. The staff wouldn't let her cancel and insisted on bringing her meal out as a takeaway. We then waited another 15 minutes and it still hadn't shown up. When we checked, they had just left it in a bag on a counter at the entrance to the restaurant. So... not allowed to cancel, not offered anything like a free drink - or even an apology - after waiting an hour for one course, and pretty much treated like dirt.
One lady couldn't eat her Schnitzel, pronouncing it totally bland and without flavour. I ordered a Thai curry which cost $20 and didn't even come with rice. When I think of places like Stir Crazy that do a whole range of absolutely killer Thai dishes on a $10 deal, it makes the club's food look really poor. Beautiful views but ordinary food and awful service - no wonder there was plenty of room in the restaurant. read more
