For me, the best feature is a large 18-hole disc golf course and for this purpose, Margreth Riemer Reservoir really delivers. This course has a perfect mix of hills, grasses, trees, bushes, and large bodies of water for the small chance that you may lose your disc (fortunately, there's plenty of area between the course and water, so you'll have to throw quite off the mark for it to land in there). The only thing I dislike about the park is the confusing parking, but it's not too bad once you've been there once. Definitely worth a visit if you live in the area, and a great place to get some disc golf practice.

The course itself is fairly large but spread out quite widely in a circle. This means that you run across lots of difficult obstacles such as tall grasses, water, bridge, fence, etc. If you don't have good control over your aim, it's easy to get discs lost in the terrain and spend a good amount of time looking for them. With that said, it's quite an interesting course to play and a good challenge if you play at rolling knolls as well. Between these courses, you'll experience quite a bit of obstacles. I do like how this course is a bit flatter than some others if you do not enjoy spending lots of time climbing hills, but there is also a raised basket and a basket on a hill if you need the practice. Tees are mostly concrete, with a couple holes teeing off a path or dirt. There are alternate tees and holes on 12 and 14, off the top of my head, but it's easiest just to play off the standard tees. Alternate hole placements change up the course a bit during the year. Overall, a great course to let your arm rip, for those that love distance. Watch out for the swampy area, which affects about 4 holes, as you can easily lose discs in there. Got my first hole-in-one here, on the old hole 13 (the hole where you had to shoot blindly into the woods). It's a shame that the new 13 is the total opposite of the old one.

So on one of the rare, hot days this summer, we found ourselves trying to navigate this course. The best way to get here is to park in or near the Waterbury Elementary School parking lot and walk on over. Originally, my directions led me to some residential parking lot on the other side of the park, but I wasn't able to park there or I'd be towed. Go to the school instead. You have been warned. Goose Lake Park has a nine-hole disc golf course that takes about two hours to complete. There's no maps, so you need to find them ahead of time or just wander around and figure it out yourselves. Boxes of sand mark the starting spots to throw from and the baskets are clearly marked with yellow paint. We managed to find eight of the nine holes and only completed six or seven of them. We were exhausted from the walking and tossing! The only annoying things about the course were the clusters of tall grass! My frisbee kept ending up in the grass and it took us time to find them if we weren't paying attention to where they landed. I was wearing shorts and flip flops; it's not fun walking through tall grass with those on. Once I got the hang of tossing the frisbees, they didn't go in the grass anymore. Whew. I enjoyed the game more than I thought I would, though! Since I haven't played disc golf before, I can't really compare this to other locations. Yet, the lack of maps, the slightly confusing course design, and the annoying tall grass puts this at a three-star rating for me. It's OK. I'd come back, but I'm not in love. In addition to the disc golf course and walking path, there's a baseball field and playground for the kiddies. It's a quiet spot -- we only came across a couple other people walking dogs while we were there.

They clearly marked where to throw from using boxes full of sand with signs telling you how far it is and what is par. The park is well maintained with tall grasses in clusters. It is hard to figure out where to park, but you park near the Waterbury Elementary School and the first hole is right by the parking lot. It also has a gorgeous baseball field and a biking track through the park. Furthers mere, you can have kids play on the playground there. It was a great course that was well maintained, easy to find the holes and where to throw from, and short for new beginningers.

The course has a wide variety of different challenges and terrain available, though the quality of the tees and signage varies throughout the course. I wasn't a huge fan of the earlier holes which go close to the street and around the areas where geese congregate. However, the middle holes go through some beautiful forest and have a much more interesting combination of terrain. The baskets are difficult at times to see, to updated signage would also be better. But overall, a fun set of challenges. Even if you're not into disc golf, the park itself is beautiful with a large pond, many walking paths, and a variety of nature. There's also basketball courts, a baseball diamond, pickleball courts, picnic areas, picnic shelter, washrooms, tennis courts, and other amenities. This looks like a great place to enjoy a sunny afternoon.

McLean Rohn Playground is on the south end of the park, near the Laurel Ave. entrance. It features a nice assortment of playground equipment for kids of all ages, and plenty of places to sit and supervise. There is plenty of open grounds to play upon, and all of the grass is well maintained. Along much of the length is a small disc golf course, which parallels the paved path, and continues over the river into Shepard Park. The small steel bridge that connects the two parks, over the river, has some nice views of the wildflowers and plants on the bank of the river. On a nice still day, the lull of the babbling water is very soothing. Because it's so close to several schools and day care centers, there are often lots of kids playing there during the daytime; if you plan of a round of disc golf, avoid times when the schools are getting out in the afternoon. Parking is limited at the various entrances, but you can park at Shepard Park, and cross the bridge over. The bathrooms are also at Shepherd park.

This is a taxpayer funded course right (??), so I'm not entirely sure how that grants the rights to adjacent neighbors to camp out and use it as a dog park and then report people who get angry about their game being blocked in return, because they can't finish their game. And I just want to clarify, that if we want to go throw on a course, and there are people blocking us from playing the course because it's a dog park at that particular time of day that they have deemed works best for them, then we need to just ignore their entitlement and go to the next hole?? Would you do that to someone on a regular golf course?? I think NOT. Guessing the police deal with this entitlement on the regular based on what they said after they were called. 3 stars are because the course is amazing, but the entitled neighbors and their stupid dog can get bent.

My understanding was we were allowed to stay for one hour, and it was well worth the nominal admission fee! It had all the best components of a park, with lots of attention being focused on exploration and discovery. I did not see any swings, but there was plenty to climb on and signs posted everywhere encouraging the parents to not be helicopter parents... to let their child explore and try to problems solve on their own. There was a man-made creek running through one edge of the park and half the children were in bathing suits and had shovels and buckets with them. My grandkids declared it the best park they've ever visited! The playground is attached to a large piece of land that has tons of walking paths and picnic areas along with nice bathrooms and an educational nature center! It would be very easy to spend the better part of a day here!
