If what you like about riding is the physical thrill - I'm thinking of myself as a kid - then you'll find North Sand Hills to be heaven on earth. What I really enjoy now is exploring, and you can fully explore this place in a couple of hours. But (and it's a huge BUT) there's a connection to the adjacent Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest, and there you can ride for days. We mainly used North Sand Hills as a staging area to ride in the national forest. We LOVED riding in Medicine Bow-Routt, but that's not what's being reviewed here.
There was a lot of signage to read when entering North Sand Hills, and we read it all, but if the basic question "where is it okay to park?" was answered, we missed it. I *think* it is okay to park almost anywhere that doesn't block a road. Bring everything you need, because there's no water or anything else except a couple of vault toilets. read more
