NGL, this place is a hidden gem in the baking world. In the past few years they've really upped their game in the "higher end" pastry section, with gorgeous cakes and fancy bites. But honestly, it doesn't get better than their homemade pitas and laffas. I dare you to find me better! The counter staff and owners do show they care, time and again. On more than one occasion I've completely forgotten an order or messed up quantities, and they bend over backwards to make sure they can do what they can to make it work for me with no notice. Probably o e of the best chocolate things i ever ate. I Believe it's called a Chicolate Rushky. I also love the chocolate chip Rugalack, really crunchy , great for coffee. I also tried the Israeli Rogalach which was good but it's more of a yeasted dough, i prefer the Rugalach. Try them all and decide for yourself. The first time there i bought a poppy seed coffee cake for my aunt and uncle. said it was the best poppy seed coffee cake they have had up to this point. Going to the bakery is always fun. It's even more fun when the bakery has things that are fresh...this place does not fail in that regard. I have been coming here since I was a kid in the late 80s. You can go wrong here. Especially the chocolate roshkies...I think I spelled that correctly. ( pronounced rooshky) Sometimes I buy my nieces cupcakes here much to the ire of their parents. We love Northshore kosher bakery. All of there breads are amazing. Soft and fluffy and so flavorful. The specialty cakes that they make are amazing not just because how they tast, but how they look. Most of the cakes are like fine works of art that you help but want to eat. They have some new people working in the front of the shop that seem to be very nice and attentitive. They sure do know how to make a good cinnamon roll here! I absolutely devoured the cinnamon roll in less than a minute because of how good it was. I popped it in the microwave for a quick minute and it was so soft, moist, and delicious! I highly highly recommend it for any cinnamon roll lover. I like how light and fluffy the dough was so it didn't feel like it was weighing me down after eating, like those huge Cinnabon rolls. My sister equally loved the chocolate cinnamon roll as well. The other items were definitely not as good. The vanilla cupcake tasted very generic, like something you'd get at a grocery store. The brownie was very thick and heavy as well. I'd definitely come back and get just a dozen of those cinnamon rolls and probably eat them all in one day! read more

I'm a huge fan of the sufganiyot here, and the chocolate rugelach is TO DIE FOR. The Hamantaschen are genuinely things of beauty. (I was in Chicago during Purim on my last trip, and, well, what Purim celebration is ever complete without the requisite Hamantaschen? Bad for my gut, yes, but good for my comfort food loving soul. No cheese Hamantaschen here, though, as everything here is parve -- at least from what I can see.) And the loaves of challah? Beautiful, glossy babies. (Try a loaf -- and not just for Shabbos. Day-old challah makes the best French toast IN THE FREAKIN' WORLD.) The owners apologized for being out of chocolate babka on my last visit, but that's probably a good thing for my waistline. Le sigh. Prices are reasonable here, so you won't have to break the bank to grab a nosh. Great -- now my Lonely Inner Fat Girl is telling me that she's hangry, and must be appeased by an early morning brekkie. (It's almost five a.m. in Oklahoma City, and my stomach's now rumbling with all this talk of kosher baked goods.) You'll find many of North Shore's excellent products in stores all across the Chicagoland area, so that's an added bonus if you don't want to drive to the bakery itself. And as for the Yelp reviewer who said that the owners aren't friendly to the Orthodox? A big fat bunch of unadulterated BULLSHIT. It wasn't super sweet, and I could taste multiple flavors--the chocolate drizzle and vanilla frosting had their own distinct flavors. A wonderfully rich, fluffy, and light cake. We had a pleasant experience ordering custom baked goods for our wedding. After finding a few ideas online, we visited the bakery in person to discuss what was possible and costs. They were excited by the example pictures we brought in and gave reasonable price estimates. They were highly responsive to all of our questions and concerns. My boyfriend and I stopped in while we were waiting for our pizza from Eastern Pizza and we were greeted by a very friendly staff. They had a sample of their honey cake which was amazing. Very disappointing interaction with multiple staff members, including two women who claimed the store was theirs. I have a disability and can not wear a face mask. The boy working was rude, didn't want to "deal with this" and one woman who claimed the store was hers said "I don't care about your disability I can violate whatever I want." I had pre-ordered online and there was no confirmation of order or possibility of curb side pickup noted. Three employees were arguing with me. I could see my order on the counter and wanted to add one item to it and then be in my way. There was one other customer in the store and I was more than six feet away from everyone. I then waited outside for them to bring it to me ans lay-that woman was lovely and I wished her a Happy Hanukkah. I won't be going back as they were extremely rude and argumentative. This place is parve, so I was quite excited. For a lactose intolerant Jew such as myself, you'd think they would know how to make crazy good tasting desserts without dairy. I ordered the egg deli rolls and really enjoyed them. I made short work of them wife my wife with some good Kosher deli meat. However, the two eclairs were MEH. The bagels are big and squishy, maybe to cater to the non-Jews. There are better bagels out there. I cannot recommend the cakes. My family and I have shopped at this bakery at least once a week for over 10 years, they have always had delicious tasting baked goods. Customer service has been a problem for this bakery for a while, at least ten years. The people that work there act like they are in a forced labor camp and can barely muster a "hello'" or "good morning." I walked in this morning, attempting to purchase challah. There were only a few people in there. When it was my turn, the two people working there started answering the phones. They did not even acknowledge I was there. Then, they got off the phone and started complaining about an order that a customer had just placed. I walked out. It's nice that they spent money to rebuild the inside of their bakery but perhaps they should have put that money to better use by training their employees on customer service. read more

I have been stopping by this clean and fabulous bakery every time I am in Chicago. Once again, the service was excellent and friendly! The challah and rye breads are always on my list. I live in the area so I'm sure I've had tons of stuff from North Shore over the years even though I don't go out to the bakery too much. So I can't really give a comparison on everything to other places. But if there's one thing I love from North Shore, it's the pita. Always soft and tastes so good. Never thin and falling apart. Who want's liquid dripping from their falafel? I'll just warm them up and eat them straight sometimes. They also make tomato pita which has tomato sauce and spices on top. Again amazing on it's own. Better if you make something with it - whether with falafel or a small homemade pizza. They're also distributed at the local Jewel on Howard though I'm sure straight from the source may be the freshest. I love these. read more
