Navigating the insurance side of things (which was a stressful nightmare) was enough to make me consider just doing my best with duct tape, tarps, and a hot glue gun. However, once I called Rhoden Roofing, this situation went from dismal to one I hardly had to even think about. Cody was my first contact and he was phenomenal. He went out of his way to literally walk me through the insurance process and the initial quote. He was there to answer every question, frequently checked in with me to see how things were going, and even drove across town to pick up the payment check in person. Chris was assigned to my house for the actual work. His level of customer service was outstanding and should be used as an example in HR textbooks everywhere of how to win over customers. He checked in frequently, explained every step, went above and beyond to ensure that all the nails were picked up from my yard, and made the day-of process ridiculously easy and stress free. In my experience, the process required…read moresigning numerous fine-print authorizations on the salesperson's laptop that effectively gave the contractor control over insurance payments and communications with my insurance company. I was repeatedly told not to worry because they would "take care of everything" and that my only responsibility would be paying the deductible. Several months later, after the company had already collected substantially more from the insurance carrier than I believed the work justified, I received what was described as a "final invoice." The document still did not include an itemized breakdown of charges, only a total amount due, and it included charges for work that I do not believe was completed. In addition Rhoden charges a 2.9% fee for using a debit card. Since Federal law makes it illegal to charge a processing fee for debit card transactions (Durbin Amendment to the Dodd-Frank Act), Rhoden plays the word game to try to grab another dollar by calling the fee a "convenience fee". Hiring Rhoden Roofing was a decision I regret. Based on my experience, I strongly encourage homeowners dealing with storm damage or insurance claims to be extremely cautious about assigning insurance payments or claim authority to a contractor they do not know and fully trust. I also strongly recommend obtaining multiple detailed, itemized estimates from reputable roofing companies before signing any agreements or authorizations.
