We enrolled at North Valley Christian Academy expecting a Christ-centered environment built on trust, transparency, and partnership with parents. Our experience was the complete opposite. Our primary concern is student privacy and administrative overreach. During our time at NVCA, we witnessed: * Private student conversations being overheard and later referenced by administrators * A lack of respect for parent involvement when our child was emotionally distressed * A troubling culture of surveillance and control rather than trust and care In addition to these issues, we raised multiple safeguarding and conduct concerns to administration that were never meaningfully addressed, including: * Coaches speaking to teenage girls in demeaning and derogatory ways * Inappropriate one-on-one conversations during athletic evaluations unrelated to performance * A coach refused to let our daugher leave a room for 10 minutes against her will and pleas for her parents * Requests for written policies governing athletics, discipline, and parental communication that were never provided The most alarming incident occurred after our daughter resigned from cheer due to how she was being treated. Principal Jason Mitchell hired someone to locate and secretly video record our minor child at a weekend club volleyball tournament -- off campus, outside of school hours, without our knowledge or consent. (Chris Schoenleb, Head of School denies this despite the email from Jason Mitchell being attached to this review and he was cc'd on the original email). This had nothing to do with safety, academics, or behavior. It was clearly used to justify a decision that had already been made. Our daughter had no disciplinary record, no probation, and was never warned her enrollment was at risk. Despite this, the school later discussed our family via email to all 800+ NVCA Families while refusing to identify any written policy we allegedly violated or responding to us. Since then, NVCA has implemented policies locking students' phones in Yondr bags throughout the school day, preventing private parent-child communication. Given our experience, this raises serious concerns about control versus care. Also, random drug testing is common and done without parental notification and consent by Jason Mitchell. We are sharing this so other parents -- especially those expecting integrity from a Christian school -- will ask questions, request written policies, and fully understand the culture they are placing their children into. North Valley Christian Academy is one of the best if not the absolute best Christian school for your kids! I am a mom of four and have experienced six different school systems with my children over the last several years. NVCA™ welcomed my girls in immediately. The culture is not clicky or exclusive. It is set by the administration carried out by the teachers and accepted by the students. The principal knew their names within a few days. The staff is attentive, experienced, kind, and exceptional. I challenge anyone to find a better school that will equip their children with a Christ centered worldview as our young ones have to face challenges in this world that we never imagined. Our tour was fantastic, the staff is extremely professional and caring. We immediately enrolled our child for 7th grade when she is old enough to attend. The campus is beautiful and we loved the smaller private school feel. Not thrilled how they allow major sporting events on the weekends on their facilities for extra $$ but refuse to provide parking! They allow attendees to park on both sides of residential streets blocking emergency vehicles to come through and in no parking zones!! Not very neighborly considerate or Christian friendly! To add, the attendees you invited for special event that you obviously couldn't control left trash all around the community! You should see the complaints on Nextdoor! So thankful for this smaller, community of a private school. It's small enough to build relationships with faculty and parents well & feels big enough with lots of programs available to students as well as sports. Its hard to know how to review a school if there hasn't been an issue. In those moments I believe you really see how leadership is and how biblical staff is. Of course there's issues, of course everyone is different, but when an issue arose, leadership did too. I got to see first hand how the situation was met with truth and biblical principals. I am forever grateful, we have been here three years and have four kids in this school. One thing I really appreciate is we agree to handle situations biblically and it reinforces what foundation I am laying at home. They have chapel, loving teachers and lots of events to connect and wonderful leadership and front office staff. I would just suggest finding a new uniform vendor, what a headache, but the staff mediates as needed with those issues. Keep it up NVCA read more

I love when I have the chance to read "The Whiners Review." They are always entertaining while deliting in misery and emotion. In my house when our children whine, we ask them, "What does whining get you." Their response is......."Nothing!!!!" Well, I took away nothing from the negative reviews. And now I will have a chance to provide facts and great information for your future decision making. First and foremost, we love NVCA. We have 2 children there. We are thrilled about their teachers. The pre-K teacher remembered my little guy from a camp almost 3 years ago!!! And the new 2nd grade teacher is AMAZING! She is a combo of "The Child Whisperer....Mary Poppins...& Mr. Miyagi." My daughter is struggling a bit and her teacher(within the 1st 2 weeks of school) reached out to me asap to get the ball rolling to find help. She even sits at recess in HER spare time to help my daughter. The school even has a BEST program for students needing additional assistance with learning and such things. In one of the whiney reviews, there was a comment about having to help her child subsidize after school education........ Well duh?! It's so funny how so many people think that just because you invest money into a school, it will remediate your job as a parent to further your child's education. It doesn't stop at school. It continues when they get home, when they are eating their dinner, and when you put them into bed at night. Parenting and education don't stop....EVER. Here are some facts about education in AZ. If we are going to speak words and attempt to slander a beautiful school, I figure we should have some facts to mix in with those heavy/untutored emotions. 1. AZ ranks 47th in national ranking for school systems (public & charter). FYI, that means there are only 3 US states worse than AZ. 2. 52% of teachers leave the profession all-together within 3 years or less in AZ (yes, Charter Schools). Why do they leave? Research shows teachers are leaving due to an increased pressure and workload and more duties, which inevitably ends in burnout. 3. AZ has a major shortage of teachers, there are jobs everywhere. 74% of public & charter schools have teacher job openings, 20% of teachers will resign mid-year, and 89% of teachers leave their location within 1-5 years. These facts are appalling and unacceptable. Parents, having your kids in a private Christian school doesn't fix this problem.... obviously. However, having your children in a private Christian school with morals, values, and constant never-ending improvement belief will provide a backbone for them for the future. It will teach your children the fundamentals of responsibility, compassion, hard work, and respect. NOW is the time. WE as parents (whether our children are in public, private, or charter schools) should be getting involved. Our educational system is crying for help. Our schools, teachers, and admin are crying for help. I realize we are all busy..... It appears to me that NVCA and the administration have a backbone. They are transparent. Asking for help, volunteers, and money for your children to have the experience that YOU are paying for is pretty "REAL." But YOU have to put in the time, do the research, follow the chain of command for your complaints or concerns, and take action. I realize we live in a world now where everyone works. I promise I get it because I do too. I am tired at the end of the day too, but my kids come first. My responsibility as a parent comes first....ALWAYS! NVCA is a great school. They are a great choice. Everything that is meant to happen for you and your child will happen. Everything that is not, will pass by. God's timing is perfect. My daughter had a 15% in English and no one contacted me. She was allowed to compete in cheer despite failing. I was distressed and asked why a parent-teacher conference was not arranged? I was told the teacher's schedules were busy. I was told the teacher's updated parents weekly via email. I repeatedly notified the HS principal I had not received a single email........However, the principal response was that I was receiving the emails.... I just simply didn't know how to click on the link to obtain my daughter's grades (I make my living using computers). Finally, Ms. Jefferson corrected my email address and I started to receive updates on my daughter's grades. Note the Peoria school district has 2000 students and if my 2 daughters grades dropped below a 70 % a parent-teacher conference would be scheduled within the week. Unfortunately, Christian education failed my daughter. Money was more important than the quality of education. Last, on 2 arbitrary drug tests, 7 out of 10 students tested positive. All I could do was hold my breath until the end of the school year. read more

The school has a high turnover of teachers, administration and students. The history of the school over the last 3 years is well documented in the media. I would suggest that anyone interested in this school talk to the administration and ask how long they have been at NVCA and request to see standardized test score results.This school has a great location and that is about all. read more

In my opinion this is not a good school at all. I had to pull both of my children out of this school, one was severely bullied by fellow students for years with no repercussions despite several reports to administration. The other was poorly treated after I pulled the first one out. I think at that point they just wanted my family gone. No one likes a squeaky wheel and I think the school just does not want to be held accountable. The teacher turnover and student turnover is horrible too. The pastor of my church even pulled his child out as well. These people just do not know what they are doing. For and $12k per year per student, I expect more and this school failed my expectations miserably. It is absolutely not Christ-Centered. Not by a long shot. The school has grown tremendously over the last 5 years, but they are just not equipped to handle that kind of hyper-growth so the kids suffer. I had high hopes but the incompetence was just overwhelming. Don't waste your money. read more
