I've been a NIM patient more than 30 years, and Dr Lynch's patient for almost as long. I'd struggled with my health since infancy, and never really understood my medical condition until I became a patient at NIM when I was in my 30s. I paid my balance in full the last time I went there and they are sending bills and threats for a debt collector when funny how my insurance app said my responsibility was only 35.00 not 70. Funny how they found all these things wrong like inflammation, anemia doing lab work . I had the same tests done by my primary care doctor and the results were NORMAL. This practice is a Godsend for any individual who is not "cookie-cutter" sick. I have been diagnosed by several out of state MD's as having Multiple Complex Chronic Conditions. I've had lyme (2x), mold caused illness, have probably been chemically sensitive for most of my life, had no allergies till I had my kids late, (age 38 and 40). Then wham! allergic to dust, pollen, some dental drugs, sensitive to many foods. At 59, Early Onset Cataracts, and the successful Surgery for that. Then lyme and the early symptoms of Electro-Magnetic Sensitivity. I'm now 82, and only Dr Lynch and Lynne Hinkle and their amazingly patient and kind staff keep alive my hope for a longer, good quality life. Do not believe the negative reviews, they are not at all accurate. This type and level of attention and healthcare takes time and is not cheap. But these folks do not charge concierge rates, which almost all of the functional/ integrative MDs do. That alone is a miracle. After dealing with multiple specialists for an array of autoimmune issues it was a relief to find a practice that was willing to consider the connections between the issues- a big picture approach. My first appointment was two hours long and very informative. We discussed previous labs (done within a few months of the initial visit), symptoms, diet, potential causes-everything. It was the first time I left a doctors office without a list of remaining questions and with hope. I did not feel rushed in the slightest. I received a call from a very friendly and informative nurse about 2 1/2 weeks after my blood was drawn. They were still waiting for part of my IGG food labs to come back but she called with results of other tests. This timing did not seem unusual as I have waited far longer for results from my immunologist. Also, I appreciate that they call you as opposed to charging for another visit to read you the results (like my immunologist). I was not charged for the call as other reviews have indicated. The nurse had a plan of action for me and facilitated the procurement of new scripts/supplements. She broke everything down and I got off the phone with every question answered. I feel like I am finally getting answers and that I am no longer medicine's guinea pig. I would not be alive with a better quality of life if it were not for Dr. Elson, Michelle Goulet, the other doctors and the entire staff at NWA. Their access to cutting edge medical laboratory assessments and concern for my well being is far above the general medical choices out there. They respect my input and understand the difficulties of dealing with chronic multilevel disabling illness, as well as understand and acknowledge the clinically provable diagnosis of multiple chemical hypersensitivity. I had been to numerous doctors in NY prior to moving here and none had these advanced test methods available to prove the metabolic injury I had sustained, but Northampton Wellness did along with advanced infectious testing. I have all the pre and post data that shows the improvements. NHW were the ones who diagnosed my leukemia. Three years prior, a NY immunologist did not know what to do with the abnormal results, and never did any additional testing. NHW has integrative ways that significantly improves this prognosis. What more could I ask for when the Hematologist (cancer specialists) tell me there is nothing I can do but "wait" and die early of nutritional deficiencies and multiple infectious complications, which they have no way of monitoring unless extreme, as the hematologists rarely engage in any integrative therapy or metabolic replacement care for cancer. NOPE. Finally canceled everything with them because they were impossible to reach. They've changed their name to Northampton Integrative Medicine by the way. Scheduling an appointment took a week's worth of unreturned calls, online sign ups, and finally stopping in on Valentine's Day with my boyfriend to schedule an appointment in person because I was so sick and had no where else to turn. The appointment itself was fine, nothing against the doctor who saw me. But he ordered a test for me that I went home and found out I couldn't afford (Geneva Diagnostics has miserable ratings, yet this office uses them). I called up two business days later and asked if I could skip the test and start my treatment for sibo. No one picked up at any of the three desks I called - as expected - so I left a message. No response (as expected). I began the treatment because I was very ill and needed to get better. Finally, two weeks later I get a call from the office telling me I can skip the testing and start the treatment. Two weeks later!! tl;dr: They're impossible to reach or get important information from. A sick patient shouldn't have to drive to the office to get a word out of receptionists. And when your cliental are sick and suffering, you need to communicate on time! What a stressful thing to deal with on top of chronic illness. read more

This is one of the worst "doctor's offices" I have ever been to in my entire life. I wish I could get back the month and a half of my life that I wasted with these people. Oh! And the $1000 paid by my insurance. I initially called in early May about getting an appt. I had to wait until the end of June to see them. For some reason, I thought that meant they were very good. When I finally got in to see them, the practitioner I saw (nurse), in my opinion, talked down to me. I've been battling an unknown illness since April, and as I'd already seen other doctors in the area, Northampton Wellness was my last resort. I summed up my visits with other doctors for NHW's practitioner, and I even brought lab results. NHW's practitioner proceeded to tell me that she was just going to re-test me for many things I had already been tested for in the past 6 months, because my tests weren't done "our way", and despite me telling her that I *have* been tested for food allergies, she proceeded to order such tests anyway. Now, here's my issue. After her adamant declaration suggesting that my previous doctors must have missed something on the tests, and there were different ways to do them and yadayaya, I'm pretty excited about getting these results back. I might actually get better! One week goes by--crickets Two weeks go by--crickets The third week, which is this week. The only contact I've had all this time are with the nurses, who I had to call myself and ask where my test results were, if the doctor had any recommendations, etc. The nurses continue to lie and say they will call me back. So, I call them back, and they tell me how sometimes these things happen, and lab results can take weeks. The trouble is, I called the laboratory they sent the test tubes to myself, and they said they were ready (with the exception of one), and they would be faxed over. The actual lab is not the hold up. I brought this to the attention of one of the nurses, and she launched into a tirade about how NHW deals with chronic patients, and "these things" can take weeks, and the "best" she could do was call me if the practitioner had anything to say when all the results were in. She also added that they were doing be a favor by even reading me the results when they weren't all complete. Again, I called the laboratory to see about the final test. According to them, there is a backup in the lab, and there is no estimated time on when these results will be finished. So apparently, NHW was planning on holding my results for some more time. I guess the sum of my review is this. These people do not care, and they move on their own time. Do not come here expecting a cure for a mysterious affliction like I did. Do not come here if you have a time table (I do. I'm a college student, and dealing with them has taken up much of my summer already. I guess I was silly to think that they might offer me medical advice before school starts back up again). Pretty much just don't come here. If you're sickly and looking for answers, bite the bullet, and go see a Dr. in a real city. New York, Boston, even Hartford. edit: 9/613 I received my test results a total of 5 weeks later, and got a phone call in the 6th week where they basically said they had no idea. I noticed the review below, and I still believe that their practices are unacceptable. No practice worth its salt should take 6 weeks to get test results back. Being from a major US city, I know this. They certainly charged me for the $1000 worth of tests as soon as they could. I'm glad the second reviewer got the help they needed, but all these people did was waste my time. I regret giving them my time and my money. I could not disagree more with this persons assessment of Northampton Wellness Associates LLC. I too had a mysterious illness for many years that went undiagnosed. My heart goes out for the individual because I understand her frustration. NHWA took four vials of blood from me and sent them to many different labs across the U.S. for different tests. These are not standard tests that regular Doctors use or can even read. They involve IGG and Igg and other information that is very confusing to the non specialist, and yes they do take many weeks to get the results. Northampton Wellness Associates LLC has been a life saver for me since 2010. I have Myalgic Encephalomyelitus / M.E./CFS. This is a chronic and a debilitating disease that is currently being ignored by the 99.9% of the medical community. I travel 160 miles one way to see NHWA, and for me it is a painful drive. It is worth every mile. Their staff is dedicated and their Doctors are up on the latest medical information. I would highly recommend Northampton Wellness Associates LLC to any patient looking for good, quality care. read more

I had been a client there for many years, receiving both allergy treatments and assistance with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. This was while I was insured and married. Then, during a period when I was dealing with super-stressful divorce, I had scheduled an apt with Dr. Elson, the founder of the practice. At this apt., I showed the staff the court order issued by Judge Sacks of Hampden county probate obligating my ex to be responsible for all uninsured medical costs--the staff were very unprofessional to me and then Dr. Elson called me to his office where I received a further dressing down. I left without any care at all, in spite of being in a state of crisis. A day or so later, Dr. Elson called my house begging me to come and see him again (friends have advised this is because he would have been liable for Patient Abandonment) so in spite of my misgivings I went. The appointment was uneventful. Some time later, pursuant to my divorce case, I had a certified, attested copy of my substantial records obtained for evidence during the trial. I had been diagnosed with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity for over six years by the time I first went to NHW, and there were at least three times Dr. Elson had input into those records. When subpoenaed to testify he returned my attorney's call and said he would have the subpoena quashed (disposed of), that he didn't know me, had never treated me, and that MCS is "all psychological, there is no proven diagnosis" and further, that he would refuse to say anything useful if questioned on the stand. I was sitting in my attorney's office and heard the entire conversation. This, after he bills himself as a physician knowledgeable about and sympathetic to people afflicted with MCS. He had even written me an affidavit saying I was disabled, which was part of the record. He was a signatory to "Multiple Chemical Sensitivity: A 1999 Consensus", published in Archives of Environmental Health, Vol. 54, No. 3, pp. 147-149, which is easily found through Google. The short short version: all was well and good so long as I was a regular patient with insurance and compelling reasons to seek care. As soon as I became inconvenient or problematic I was shown the door. And this so-called expert on MCS completely denied ever seeing or treating me in spite of factual information to the contrary. The last time I wrote a less than sanguine review of NWA was when I got the call to come back in and see Dr. Elson. Trying to shore up the damage, obviously. Well, since I'm in NYS now, and no longer go there or plan on returning, I doubt there will be ANY attempt to rectify matters. And I no longer care one bit. read more

This place has really gone downhill. About 4 years ago I had a great experience there. Now I go back and the doctor was rushed and not great. More importantly, to me, at least FOUR MONTHS later I still cannot seem to get from them the results of my allergy testing so that I can do the allergy therapy!!!! This was the whole reason I went there. I also do not live in the area so it is a real hassle for me to deal with all of this. I have been a patient at Northampton Wellness for almost three years now. If it weren't for Dr. Elson I would not be here today. I came to him from 2.5 hrs away, after the best hospitals in Boston had given up on me. Years of misdiagnosis and continuing to get sicker and sicker. I was bed bound and in a wheelchair for any distance further than the bathroom. Years of frustration and desparation brought me here. This doctor grabbed my hand and told me he was sorry I was so sick and that he was going to try and figure this out and get me better. He drew over 20 vials of blood, began treating me by stregnthening my cells with iv nutrients and suppliments. Two months later I recieved a phone call that they were going to begin treatment for Lyme. From there, they kept uncovering what was going on with me. From the sign in the iv clinic stating "Never, never give up" to the nurses telling me that they will do everything they have to do to get me better. To the iv staff supporting me and caring for me on a weekly basis as I went through this journey, to the nurses that would spend the time with me, or come to me for my injection because I was to weak to make it down the hall. Finally to the amazing doctor who never gave up on me and kept trying to figure it out. Every appointment I looked forward to see what direction he was going to take me in next. Not every lyme patient is the same, not every patient responds to treatment the same way either. This doctor's protocol worked for me and though it took years, I am getting my life back. Three summers ago I was talking about my "final plans". Last summer I still needed the wheel chair for long distances, like the mall or walmart. This summer I can walk a mile, I helped remodel a house, laying hardwood floors, framing walls and hanging drywall. I am not 100% I have my limits, but I can definately see it from here. This place may not be the right fit for everyone. It was the right fit for me and countless people I encounter within its walls on a weekly basis. This is a place where the entire staff knows me. I know they care about me and I care about them. I have been to hell and back with my health and Northampton Wellness has been my life line. read more

I can't say enough great things about Northampton Wellness and Michelle Goulet. I became sick and quickly I realized my usual doctor was limited in helping me and was not listening to my concerns. I was lucky enough to know about Northampton's services so I made an appointment. Michelle not only listened to me, she agreed with a test I wanted run (that my doctor wouldn't do). She was able to get me a diagnosis of a virus as well as some immune and hormone problems. One of the things I really appreciate is the fact that she not only looked into what my main problem was, but other things that could be hindering my body's ability to fight off the illness itself. Not only has Michelle been wonderful, but all of the staff from the front desk, allergy clinic (found out I have some allergies too), to the nurses are great. Including filling out tons of paperwork for my insurance company and FMLA paperwork. I have and would again recommend Northampton Wellness to anyone who is in need of care for a challenging and/or chronic illness or allergies. read more

I absolutely love this place. My wife and I have gone to other specialists that do not have the extensive knowledge, bedside manner that this place has had for my 4 year old son. Due to a vaccine injury my son's autoimmune issue was not able to handle so many immunizations at once. Dr. Darren Lynch knew exactly what to do and addressed his issues right away. After working with them for almost a year my son is now verbal (many words), laughing playing and becoming more independent as we take care of his medical issues and continue to apply ABA therapy. After having been a patient at this practice for 9 years, and sending lots of people there, I am sad to write a review that is so negative. Not sure what is going on, but things have changed there. A couple months ago I called to have a prescription refilled and it was screwed up three times- they sent to the wrong pharmacy twice, ordered up the wrong medication, and then they sent the correct pharmacy the wrong dosage which I am now unable to use or send back. And my dosage has never, ever changed for at least 8 years. While it looked like they might try to reimburse me for this huge mistake that cost me several hundred dollars out of pocket, they are now saying they don't give a damn and won't take responsibility. I won't be going back, and I suggest that you consider another practice for your health needs. read more

i think the np's here and the doctors too are good. they've definitely addressed my problems and i think they'll continue to be helpful. the np took me seriously and took real steps to figure out what's been wrong for the past five years. honestly they may have saved my life. but the previous reviewer is right that it takes *PATIENCE* to be a patient here. the test results take a long time to come back -- since they're analyzed all over the country -- and the office staff aren't in my experience very fast about getting back to you, either via phone or via the email platform. also i have found myself several times having to explain my symptoms all over again to a *different* staff member -- hard to get the same person twice -- and that can be overwhelmingly frustrating when you've taken the time (over an hour!) to fill out their *very comprehensive health questionnaire*, sent it in long ago, and have had long meetings with other people who have probably summarized their findings and your progress. i don't know what their database is like but if they don't already, it would be a great improvement if all staff members had access to that health questionnaire and to the doctors' notes -- instead of asking you all over again, "what symptoms are you having again?" when you're at you're wits' end for some clarity and guidance. right now i think that these drawbacks are because this place is in high demand, that they have a lot of patients - who, like me, have been ignored or misdiagnosed by mainstream doctors -- from all over the state and also from neighboring states, and that they struggle to meet everybody's needs. IT DOES TAKE A WHILE, and this can be so frustrating when you're not feeling well and are desperate for help. if you're feeling hopeless about your health and you're in western mass, i think this is a crucial, overall helpful place. previous reviewer -- i hope you've found some answers and are feeling better. being ill really stinks. read more

I would not recommend Northampton Wellness Associates at all. Every time I went I felt rushed and that they only cared about getting my money and having me purchase their supplements, etc. The last straw was when I had to cancel and appointment because of an emergency and they CHARGED me anyways even though Dr. Lynch had to cancel one of my appointments a couple hours before my visit, but I didn't charge him! I REALLY loved this place at first. I have been sick for YEARS and they figured out at least (the worst) part of it and started me on treatment BUT any time I call with questions or issues (which is not often) I NEVER hear back. This last time I called to follow up on an issue that I had mentioned while at my last appt and just never heard back. I sent the NP I had been seeing a message saying that I still haven't heard back and she said that's because I need to make an appt. When I made this call I had been seen not even a month before. This is a far drive and it's also a tier 3 doctor so it's expensive! I can't come every month PLUS, as mentioned before, I had mentioned it in my appt so why would I have to come back? Then she said that I can pay to make a phone appt with the nurses. So now I have to pay someone to not call me back. I quit. I have to go somewhere else. My health comes first. read more

I started seeing Michelle Goulet NP. at N H W about four years ago. My first visit I was weighed, my blood pressure taken and had a exam. Michelle sat with me and was so pleasant and extremely thorough. She ordered so much blood work, I could open a blood bank! She switched my Thyroid medicine to a natural porcine medication and started me on progesterone and estrogen cream. My second visit and every visit after was never the same. I never got weighed ever! Basically I probably have had well over 30 appointments over the past four years and every apt. was her sitting behind her desk looking at the computer and asking me what I want to do.Forget the nurses!! When ever I would get blood work for my thyroid or any labs, weeks would pass and I would never hear from them! Then finally I get a returned call after a Month from her very rude nurse telling me that their new policy at NHW is to start charging Patients to speak with a nurse regarding any questions or to get your test results.
