This is a wonderful retreat center. The rooms were cozy and the food was good. The beach is great as well.

My school district has partnered with Northbay for many years to provide environmental education and a camping-like experience for our students. The grounds are beautiful and there are many activities that the students participate in, including the ropes course, the giant swing, the zip line, kayaking, hiking, boating, fishing as well as character building each night during Northbay live. Students are encouraged to push themselves but only to their own limits. During meals, students learn about food waste and composting. The staff is really helpful,courteous, and go out of their way to ensure an enjoyable experience. My only gripe would be the cleanliness of the room that I stayed in (1st floor of the Roost). There was food on the floor, a dirty shower curtain and clothes left in the room from the previous guest. I contacted the administrators about the condition of the room and someone was sent immediately to clean it. When I arrived later that day, everything was taken care of. I also think that they need more staff to accommodate the large number of guests that they are getting. Other than that, it's a great place to do team building activities and hold family functions. read more

We went to NorthBay for their summer family camp and had an amazing time. It sounds corny but I felt like it was a magical place to be immersed in nature right outside of the city. There is kayaking, boat rides, zip lining, a big swing facing the beach, water tubing, swimming, wall climbing, a game room, field games, bonfires...and more. We didn't even have enough time to do everything they offered. There was lots for my 2.5 and 4 year old to enjoy too. We had the pool and the beach to ourselves! The activities and delicious food were all included. All of the staff were super nice and accommodating. I forgot my bug repellant and was brought some to borrow right away. It is a few minutes from a quaint downtown area with boutique shops and restaurants. We were able to social distance and all of the staff wore masks. They were also very good about continuously sanitizing everything. I can't wait to go back! read more

We enjoyed a wonderful "Family Camp" weekend at Northbay this past week. The entire camp has been set up for social distancing; the staff was always wearing masks. They clearly had protocols to keep everyone and everything clean and safe. I never would have thought a 'boxed' breakfast and lunch could be so good. Bacon, pancakes, steak sandwiches, salads - the food was plentiful. All the activities were open - zip lines, wall climbing, ropes course, giant swing, motor boat rides, and the pool. My grandson had a wonderful time doing arts and crafts with a most caring staff. We stayed in the dorms -- renting three rooms - each with twin beds and private bath. The rooms were clean and 'cool'. We enjoyed hiking in the park, all the activities, the game room, and in the evening we enjoyed a nice fire on the beach. The camp normally runs year round, providing education programs for school children and provides other retreats. I sense running the family camp is rather new - so the place was not crowded at all - a hidden gem if you want to get away - and be safe. I am sure we will go back again. read more

Planning a get-away Thanksgiving dinner for 45 family members was challenging to say the least. My wife and I had been to North Bay for a friend's wedding, enjoyed it and immediately thought of the campus when we started our planning as hosts for 2015. The whole process could not have ended with a better result! Ryan initially walked us through the facility and then turned us over to Chris Jarvis. Chris was as responsive to questions as anyone could possibly be. There was not even one problem all weekend long. Every bedroom was set up according to our requests and spotless clean. We needed a handicap accessible room and we got it. We needed a bed on the floor for a 2 year old.....we got it. Bonfire on the beach suiting our time frame "no problem". Can we use the kayaks? No problem!! The staff at the adventure activities treated our little ones with the utmost care and the old geezers with the utmost respect. We used the Guest House to cook our own Thanksgiving feast and it worked like a charm. Breakfast at the cafeteria was delicious, hot, tasty, and plentiful. I did not hesitate to schedule our family Thanksgiving weekend at North Bay and have already started banging the drum to friends about the excellent treatment we received while we were there. Kudos to Chris and Darren as well as all the behind the scenes staff for "a job well done". read more

My wife and I wanted to hold our wedding here. It was going to be a whole 4 days full of fun and celebration. We worked out all of the details and even did a tasting with their chefs which we enjoyed. Then, a few months after we squared nearly everything away (and a few months before our our wedding), they contacted us and told us they did not want to host our wedding because we wanted a vegan menu. We gave them recipes, had a vegan chef on hand to offer advice, tried to make it as easy as possible for them, but they stood their ground and refused to host a wedding for us if the menu was going to be vegan. Given that they are an environmental education center, we were shocked that they would refuse us for our eco-friendly meal preference, but alas, we were denied. We even communicated with their Executive Director George Comfort but we had no luck. Despite our extreme disappointment with Northbay, we eventually had a fantastic vegan wedding weekend at Wilderness Adventure, a beautiful camp in Virginia. read more
