Valencia Community College is a great institution. They have continued to progress and grow…read moresuccessfully. They started off as a two-year degree institution and now they have developed bachelors programs and have a program called "Direct Connect" where if you go into a degree that you can start, but not finish in Valencia, you can continue in UCF and you have a guarantee admission to UCF. It also means you get preference as a future admission in UCF if you want to go into a graduate program. With Direct Connect you can also enroll in UCF, but take classes in Valencia, if transportation or location is an issue for you; and these courses count as UCF credits. Finally, not only do they continue to grow and have 4 campuses between Osceola Campus and Orange County, with several attainable degrees, they also offer financial aid programs, scholarships and grants. Actually, they have around 25,000 students you get grants. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HY152HAuJFg) Finally, they offer online classes and have several programs to help students be able to succeed in the academia.

So if you are not around that age group...I suggest you go somewhere else. They need to work on making the students feel more welcomed. The career center counselor is an A-hole and he will make you feel like you can't make it in life. He needs to work on how to talk to people. The cafeteria doesn't make your food with love. Plus some of the professors are not doing a good job on helping students learn. You will leave confused out of these classes. On the plus side the Library staff is great and the writing center. They will make sure to help you in whatever you need. This used to be such a great campus but now I am just never coming back for sure.

Those who live in Orlando tend to know a good bit about Disney. Disney University is located behind The Magic Kingdom where the MK Cast Members park every day. Going through Disney University is mandatory for every Cast Member, no matter how big or small the role may be. When hubby (John S.) started working for Disney, he spent his first four days at Disney University and he said he had a blast and they went out of their way to make it a fun experience. Leave it to Disney to pay you for having fun! This is where they teach you all things Disney like saying, "Have a magical day," and pointing with either 2 fingers or your entire hand... never, ever point with just one finger. Pay attention next time you're at Disney, you should never see a Cast Member point with just one finger. They learn all kind of neat things about Walt himself and Disney history too. They even incorporate little games and give out prizes. We have two really cute Disney figurines from hubby answering questions correctly. Like I said, it's "behind the scenes" and something you'll never experience unless you happen to go to work for Disney World, but I wanted to review it because I know there are many people who are interested in what happens behind the magic at Disney. =)

Without giving away too much (Sworn to secrecy), I can tell you this is where each cast member goes to learn the basics about Disney and how to create the magic that Disney is so well known for!!! The Master Gardener's Plant Clinic will analyze your soil, identify that weed or bug and tell you how to fix it. This location also offers classes on creating a rain barrel, growing vegetables in Central Florida and healthy cooking. University of Florida IFAS Extension has beautiful gardens were you can stroll and see how to raise butterfly plants, create a square foot or raised garden or just chill in a tranquil garden. Behind the main building they have gardens were you can wander, explore and learn. They send out a newsletter, publish a class schedule and offer a plant fair once a year. The best part of this service is that for the most part it is free. There are some nominal charges for materials on classes but if you are nesting both inside and out, you have to check out this place for ideas and great learning opportunities.

I mention this because I was not certain as to whether the old office for the UF Extension still operated there. Which it is not. But the Mable Butler Family Center is there. Must be nice to be an elected official and name a government facility after yourself. If that is the case, then I am renaming the Florida Citrus Bowl as the Big Al Bowl. That's if I am ever elected in office. Anyway, the University of Florida IFAS Extension is there for all your questions for landscaping and gardening. Or even houseplants. They offer free pH soil tests, plant identification, pest identification (not the pests you find at a night club), advice on nutrient deficiencies, plant health, irrigation, and solutions to any problems related to landscaping and gardening. If you are having a problem with a house plant, like I just recently had, you can take the plant there for an analysis. Assistance is offered to both home and commercial landscaping, and agricultural business. Horticulture classes and workshops are offered, along with clinics and tours. You can stop in to the center and pick up any brochures and fliers offering the information that you need. The extension is offering a Urban (Backyard) Chicken Class for those interested on Tuesday, April 12th from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. You can call 407 254-9208 for more information. So if you have a problem with your sod or soil, problem with a plant or pest, bring a sample to the Extension. They will be more than happy to help you out. The extension plant clinic is open Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., and 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
