The best part is they take you down the river about a 10-minute slow ride which is nice. You get the feel for the jet ski and then they basically say go. Have fun and they watch to make sure that you're okay and there's usually a boat or one or two people on a jet ski with you to keep an eye on everyone. But you get to go do whatever the heck you want and they just have you come back in an hour and to the meeting point by the breakwater and it is so much fun. Love this place

I got the run down on what was…read moregoing on and I don't know if they were trying to get out of there, we were the last rental of the day, or what. I followed all of the instructions. (Go to the blue boat and turn around) I did that at 3-4 miles an hour and then I was instructed to do so again and out of frustration I did it a little quicker? Maybe 10mph? I know I was feathering the throttle and not holding it wide open or anything. When I came back the employee was losing his mind. Screaming at me like I did something wrong when all I did was follow instructions. The instructions were "go out to the blue boat and turn around". No one told me to stop there? So I did that AGAIN and they freaked out! I was dumbfounded???? So I carried on as it is a rental and I'm on the clock and headed out to the lake Erie break wall AS INSTRUCTED. After waiting for the attendant for ten minutes I drive the jet ski back in with my 8 year old daughter on the back. About half way back I see the employee waving me in. So I go right up next to his jet ski and hear him on the phone with law enforcement! I stayed very close to him as he told them I was extremely uncooperative! I'm literally right next to him and I have no idea what I've done that was uncooperative? They called the police on me for some reason? I don't know what. I get back to the dock, Park the jet ski and I just want to get out of there. Sincerely I was afraid, what would you call the cops on me? Apparently what they didn't explain is that I had to follow them out on a boat that they would be driving. They said to go to the blue boat and turn around and I did that twice. They didn't tell me to stay there. I'm 42 my hearing isn't the best. If they said that I didn't catch it. If they said they were leading us with a boat I didn't catch it. I thought he'd be following us on a jet ski. I'm obviously not out to break the law with my 8 year old daughter on the back of a jet ski. So I ask for my card and ID and they refused to give it to me. They said "the cops are on the way". So they held my id and card long enough for the cops to arrive. Still at this point I have no idea what I've done wrong. I've never once ever in my life heard of a business that calls the police on their customers. So when the police arrive they are in disbelief of the whole situation. The police officer admitted to me that the man called them. How else would he know they were their way? They denied they called the cops but I still have no idea what I did wrong? When law enforcement arrived I was cooperative, they made sure the employee gave me the owners contact information. If there was something I really did wrong I'm sure they would've told me but this employee could not believe I misunderstood what he said to do and as a result I had to talk to police over it. I called the owner today to try to find a solution. An exchange, a refund or something if that nature and he was very aggressive and uncooperative calling me a nuisance. I didn't appreciate that. I tried to focus on the solution, he was focused on accusatory comments. "He's never seen anything like it" "you were screaming at my employees" well then go ahead and post the video and audio if the situation. It's embarrassing to have the cops called on you, to have my daughter crying thinking her dad is about to get arrested. You should be ashamed of yourself Jonathan who is afraid to give his last name. In addition to dockage, they have a swimming pool, tennis court, on-site putt-putt course, large picnic area and ice cream shop. If it's a bad boating day, there are more then enough activities to keep kids occupied. Romp's itself is located on the Vermilion River, just minutes onto the lake. The location is perfect, and the cruise out of the marina is actually quite enjoyable--lots of good people and boat watching! The marina is also just a short walk/drive to beautiful downtown Vermilion, and to the nearby beach. If you're a hardcore boater, you'll be so happy to know that Romp's cares about every one of their members. They know everyone by name and boat, and are always super fast and communicative if an issue arises, or if they are assisting you with repairs. The owners can also be seen constantly zipping around this large property on their golf cart... don't be shy to say hello!

VYC is one of the oldest clubs in the area, I think its even pushing 80! Thankfully, it still looks great. The clubhouse is beautifully maintained and is a gorgeous event space. Some important things to note: there's no private pool or private restaurant at VYC, like most local area clubs. VYC is all about the quiet atmosphere, and its better that way. The indoor/outdoor seating areas of the clubhouse are great places to read, have a glass of wine and just enjoy the boats on the channel. VYC remains untouched by rowdy guests and excessive noise, which is a gem in itself. VYC embraces the vintage Commodore classiness of old-school Yacht Clubs. For guest docking, you can spend time at the VYC if your vessel is under 80 feet drawing 10 feet or less. Guests can have dock spots on the river wall or in temporarily vacant slips. If you're not a member, but looking for a charming town to dock and visit, definitely keep VYC on your shortlist!
