They're a little hard to find, down tiny Eden Street in Newmarket, next to the Carbon Garage. My first (niggling) complaint is that when my car had issues they needed to inform me of, they didn't phone me, they texted me. I didn't hear it, and so my car was sat there for a couple of hours longer than it needed to. It failed the WoF, unfortunately, due to rust and a couple of mechanical things. After getting the rust seen to, we brought it back late Friday afternoon, and it was ready to go Saturday morning. I was very impressed with the turnaround time, as I know they had to order parts to get it done. The cost was maybe a little expensive - as it was my first WoF in NZ, I have nothing to compare it to, but Newmarket tends to be more expensive than other areas in my experience. The WoF itself was $48, the repairs a couple of hundred on top of that. I'll definitely take it back there for future WoFs, because it's within walking distance of my home, and everyone working there that I dealt with was very friendly and helpful, happy to show us the rust, explain the mechanical problems, give us price quotes on what needed to be done and get it done when we needed it.

(I'm no car girl so I have no idea really). We get everything done here - warrants, services, problems fixed, and new tyres etc. They're just behind the Caltex on Abbotts Way. And they even drop me off or pick me up from my house! That's a super great service! The team are really friendly and nice, and I like to support local businesses.

Some will recommend services you don't really need. For instance, my wife had an Audi A3 that she hardly put any miles on. Anytime it went to Continental, they would try to sell thousands of dollars worth of impractical repairs, often exceeding the value of the car. Gilltrap, on the other hand would provide practical advice and could be trusted. I can tell that Active Automotive Services will provide honest, professional and practical service for my Nissan. They did today. I had an oddball problem. They fixed it and took some time to explain some things about the car. Thanks.

The folks at Maidstone have taken over for my old mechanics that I used and trusted in Grey Lynn…read more Maidstone is located about a block away from the Repco on Great North Road. We had recently purchased a used Honda CR-V and when it was taken to Honda they said it needed $4900 worth of repairs. We are very suspicious that Honda was going over the top in trying to restore the car to factory new conditions and that was impractical and unreasonable in our opinion. We took the car to Maidstone and they were able to look at it quickly and came back with a few of the same repairs Honda was suggesting. In one case they agree with Honda on a repair and getting the part as genuine Honda part. The remainder of the repairs were either cheaper, or they felt were not sensible to perform at this stage. As a result we saved several thousand dollars compared to Honda's repair suggestions. At the end we forgot to get a windshield wiper replaced on the rear of the vehicle and Maidstone gave it to us and didn't charge. They seemed like reputable and honest mechanics who stand behind their work and will make sensible recommendations. We will be taking all of our vehicles to Maidstone moving forward.

I…read morepurchased a car from Terry recently which was a complete lemon.he promised there was nothing wrong with it but when I took it for a new WOF they told me its a write off and the floor / side pillar is completely rusted out and someone has taken time to hide it. Should have failed its last 2 warrents but when he looked up on the system who had issued them it was blank. Someone had purposely faked the warrent then hidden their identity.. When I asked Terry about it he made up some story about selling it for a friend. Couldn't give me the friends name or number though.

Dan's got loads of mechanic experience and I definitely felt my car was in great hands when I dropped it in for a service. Dan gave me a thorough breakdown of what I could expect price wise and was definitely fair. They do everything from WOFs to full servicing, I'm spreading the word in my patch.
