We made our way to this camp ground for the long weekend. This is the same place that I use to spend my summers at with my Grandpa when I was a kid. We were also there 7 years ago(I went with just my parents). Well, everything has changed and it's gone down hill. The beach is not taken care of any more. The grass leading to the beach was not cut, the ramp down was not washed or rinsed down at all and the sand was full of poop, debris, and rocks. Before it was white sand with a bit of debris but this is not what it was.
The campground has power stalls or ones with no power, it has some cabins and tenting stalls. There is no privacy any more from stall to stall, and even while we were about to eat lunch the staff started walking through our campsite while doing measurements. I understand that there is maintenance and having to make sure everything is in order, but not while someone is in the stall. The campground use to have a playground for kids, but it has been removed. My daughter was playing in the sand at the end of our camp stall and a staff went up to her and told her she was not allowed. 1. She is 7, please speak to an adult, and 2. It's sand.... she was making a sand castle.... I don't see the problem.
There are washrooms with running water and a shower house, but there is only one for the whole campground and no other outhouses available besides at the beach which is a good 20 minute walk away. The women's washroom seemed updated and new, but according to family members, the men's washroom was out dated and the roof is caving in with mold showing. Also, the washrooms were cleaned every day in the morning. It would be a better idea to have them done twice a day during busy times (imo). The good thing about the showers is that a token ($2) lasts approximately two minutes, and you can turn it off and the time will not continue. So, while you soap up you can turn it off and it won't continue to run. There were 4 showers and they were updated. A suggestion would be a rubber bath mat so that when you step out your feet aren't sopping wet and maybe a bench so you can sit while you get dressed.
The boat launch is well taken care of and is easy to us, but they should extend the dock so that on busy days (like long weekends) you can actually launch your boat and move out of the way to the end of the dock when going to park and not hold anyone up.
The lake is beautiful and it's good fishing. We caught a few fish (we did catch and release) and the water is clean and clear. Fishing is definitely a must on this lake!
I would like to go back, but there are a few things that could be fixed first, especially since even in just 7 years the beach has gone downhill so much. read more
