I went on a rainy day so I had the place to myself for a long while. At first they were all talking a nap (the wolves) and then all on a sudden one woke up the whole crew. They had a howling session for over 5 min. Very neat. Clean place. Welcoming staff. read more

This is a wolf preserve center. They got most of the wolf from over crowded cavities like zoo or other preserve. There is about 8 to 10 wolf in the facilities. The tour include interpreted guide and you are save next to the cage. Their wolf actually has exercise time roam free at the wood. Some of them started at young wolf. As a result, whoever raise them is their alpha. It is a interesting place to visit. You there only two species of wolfs in the world. In North America is mainly gray wolf. It include subspecies as timber wolf, arctic wolf, Mexican wolf. Red wolf is the other species other than gray wolf. Red wolf is actually endanger animal. Wolf live in packs and they do have alpha. They are getting less and less this day and may be one day they will extinct. read more

Tour - Informative and worth the $35 for four family members. I would say it's more of a talk next to the main enclosure than a tour. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic for the cause and preservation of wolves. Facility - The location and program was stated by a couple with the intent of using wolves in film. After a couple of years into business they decided to go the educational route. It appears their home is on site and they reside in the middle of the enclosures. There are two public outhouse style washrooms, a gift store, an ATM and the animals. The Wolves - They seem well cared for and do receive exercise outside of the facility on a regular basis. I did not get the vibe it was poorly run or too small for them. They have wolves ranging in age and size. I had imagined there would be more to see, however, overall it felt worthwhile. In regards to the ATM comment below I agree that is a bummer but we have to keep in mind this location is in an extremely rural area. They specifically explained to us that they tried different method for credit/debit cards but there is no wifi out there and the hardline is spotty. I feel like they're trying their best with the resources they have. read more

These wolves have all been rescued. The centre respects each wolf's needs, and they get to go out and run leashless 3-6 times a week. For me that made the fences acceptable. It was kind of sad seeing these wolves in their small enclosure when it was all wet and muddy, but knowing they get to go out made me feel much better. These wolves are very loved. The presentation was not too lengthy, which was okay when you're standing out in the cold and it's wet and there aren't any seats. They really emphasise how important wolves are to the environment. Previous reviews whine about how they mention politics but honestly it's so important. This centre is for wolf conservation and they have a very important message about what the government is doing by needlessly culling wolves. They are passionate about this senseless murder and if you're here to learn about wolves then you should be, too. People also complain about the poor location but it's not like the centre is getting much funding. It's largely run on donations. So grow up :) The admission fee is cheap as hell. The whole experience was a real eye opener and I'll certainly be writing to politicians to advocate against wolf culling. read more

Visited the Northern Lights Wildlife Center in the beginning of January 2010 with the old lady. The trip out there was a little far and unexpectedly unkempt. We finally got to the center and it was pretty cool. Nothing good about seeing an animal that's naturally seen in the wild behind 15' cyclone fences, but it is what it is. The lady who operates the center is strongly opinionated and somehow injects political rants when giving a informative speech about the gray wolf, which was a little too extreme for my taste. Bottom line, we had a good time, they know their shit, and it was crazy to see a wolf staring me in the eye. Those things are beautifully intimidating. read more

We had a wonderful time on our wolf walk and the interpretive program was very informative. Yes the wolves are in an enclosure but the enclosure protects them from other predators. The wolves are well cared for and the entire staff was so friendly. Absolutely a dream come true for me. read more

We arrived to find out their ATM was out of order and they only take cash. They had no other alternatives other than heading back to Golden. A bit frustrating since its been out of order for a while. You'd hope that they could have the foresight to put a sign down on the highway letting people know that it's cash only. read more

It was $50 for 4 people to get in and see 8 Wolves sleeping in cages... Ridiculous! Georgia was very passive aggressive and rude when asked questions about the wolves. Definitely do not recommend, you see more activity sitting in the McDonald's parking lot read more

This place is AWFUL, the wolves looked sad and they were pacing restlessly in their cage. The owner was rude from the start and she clearly had anger issues. We booked an overpriced 380$ to go for a walk in the wild with the wolves and when we got there she told us we would go to a public area where there might be other people so she would have the one wolf she brought from the cage on a leash. Then she would take her off-leash to have a staged photo session. As soon as we learnt what it was all about we told the lady we were not interested in doing the tour and the walk and that we wanted our money back. she REFUSED to give us our money back (Now I understand why they only accept cash) TOTAL SCAM. We are involved in the protection of the wolves and we visited many sanctuaries throughout the world and Northern Lights Wildlife Center is NOT A SANCTUARY. These wolves were taken and are kept for lucrative purposes. We do not support petting zoos and animal exploitation and no one should support this filthy place. It is a shame to the town of Golden and all of British-Columbia. Even if we didn't even start the tour or the walk she asked us to leave without giving us back our money. We didn't care about the 100$ deposit but we wanted the 280$ that we just handed to her before she explained the content of the 2hour walk. None of the staff were wearing masks inside and she wasn't going to wear one in the car with us so we had to use COVID safety regulations against her in order to get our money back that she basically just 'stole' from us. If ZERO was an option that would be our rating. read more

Informative too a point. Maybe a little one sided. As an Idahoan, with an introduced wolf population, and as a forestor, I know first hand that there are other "truths" about wolves. I am glad we stopped though as we were able to witness a good two+ minute howling session between the 8 wolves. If you are expecting wild animals you will be disappointed as these are domesticated/adopted at young age wolves. They act much like pets to their owners. I would recommend the trip as most of the information is interesting and it's always smart to learn. read more
