We take our dachshund to Northgate--Dr. Juhl is our vet. She is kind and knowledgeable. Our baby hates going there and pooped on the floor, but she hates going outside our home so this is nothing different. We recently took her for licking her vulva and scooting, and for a nail trim. She was prescribed antibiotics and is doing well. Kudos to the techs who held her and trimmed her nails as she struggled. Dachshunds are difficult. We love her anyway! read more

Drs. Baker and Julie are amazing! We had a dental emergency for our Labrador that they were able to get fixed quickly. We were traveling from out of state too, and their quick help really lessened my stress. They were both clearly knowledgeable and very caring towards my dog and myself. Their new dental office was cleaning and welcoming and made me feel at ease knowing they are board certified specialists in dentalcare. Angie was also very welcoming and helpful throughout the whole check in and check out process, going as far as to letting me stay with my pup while she woke up and going back and forth between the credit card terminal and where my pup and I were to get everything taken care of. She also recommended some great toys and found them online for me and wrote down the information for me too. I cannot recommend them enough for dental care needs. They are exceptional and I cannot say enough good things about them - there needs to be more Dr. Bakers, Dr. Julies and Angies in the world. Thank you Drs. Baker and Julie, and Angie! read more

These folks asked me how soon I would be there and were ready and waiting. They were the kindest people in the middle of an incredibly traumatic experience. read more

Brought them an exotic earlier this year & And he is now 100% ..(...and it was pretty bleak at the time.) Brought in my 5 1/2-year-old shepherd boxer mix who could barely walk after he injured his ankle this weekend-- and here I walk in... a half an hour before closing time. I've used Northgate a few times over the years and have never had any issues...until now. We brought our sweet Pomeranian Tink in for cremation after she suddenly passed away this week 10.27.2021. We were told that a company in Champaign picks up pets for cremation on Mondays and brings the ashes back the following Monday. She would be placed in the freezer until pick up a few days later. When we left her she was wrapped in her blanket and we were assured it would be cremated with her. Something bothered me for days after we left her. I even called Northgate over that weekend and asked them to make sure Tink still had her blanket. A female employee Ryan assured me that she personally walked back and checked and that she was still wrapped in her blanket. Still I had a nagging feeling that something wasn't right. Today Monday Nov 1, 2021 I researched some information about pet cremation and it said that when pets are cremated it's done in batches and that you may not actually even get back your own pets remains. This really disturbed me. I didn't want another dog's remains back and I didn't want to wonder where my own pet was. So we ended up going to Northgate as they opened that morning and requesting to have our now frozen dog back to have a private cremation somewhere else. We were told it would take 15 minutes to prepare her (whatever that meant). When we got out to the car and opened the box she was NOT wrapped in her blanket at all! We went back in and demanded they give us her blanket back. They had washed and folded it to use for another animal. They lied a few days before when I called and asked if she still had it with her. They never had any intentions of cremating her with it and removed it from her body as soon as we left her. I will never go to Northgate again for any reason knowing that's how they handled our beloved pet after we trusted them. I am beyond upset and angry read more

I have never dealt with such a rude vet as Dr Reardon. Not only did she misdiagnose my bitch w/a pregnancy, (when she really had a raging uterus infection - a closed pyometira) she wasn't even willing to listen to what a reproduction specialist vet found. When I tried to reach her about my dog's condition worsening, she had her tech call me back, who cut me off mid sentence and told me how I needed to just wait for the meds to kick in after it having already been 3 days. She never let me finish with the problems that my dog's condition worsened or explain how. I hung up on the tech and wasn't wasting my time on them anymore. I knew then I needed to go elsewhere to get a real diagnosis of what was going on. So glad I did or my dog would probably be dead from a ruptured uterus. Maybe the other vets there are decent but I won't be taking the risk to find out. read more

I took my dog Boone here for a clinical trial as well as for a removal of a mass. I also had to bring my cat Remington here, but he unfortunately passed away. Every time I have visited this hospital, they have been kind and loving towards my animals. They will see your pet and do their best to help you find a way to get whatever care they need done. The staff is friendly and courteous and will sit down to explain things to you if you do not understand something. They are extremely considerate to anyone who has a terminally ill animal as well. I would highly recommend them. They are timely, efficient and extremely clean at the facility. Your pet will receive the best care at this place! read more

We recently got a puppy and we heard great things about Northgate so decided to try it out and we have not been disappointed in any of our puppy appointments. Dr. Wade is great and we really feel like our puppy is in great hands when we take her here. Our pup was spayed last week and the techs as well as Dr. Wade were very attentive in making sure we had all the information needed about the procedure and what to watch for afterwards. read more

We have had such an awesome experience with everyone at Northgate. We took our chihuahua mix, Ellie, there when our usual vet wasn't available. They worked so hard to save her but she eventually had to be humanely euthanized. If it wasn't for the vets there, we wouldn't have had the extra time we did with her. Each and every time we were there, not one person walked by without a kind word to little Ellie, and to us. They always made us feel special and we felt involved in the decision making when it came to her care. In the end, they allowed us to feel at peace about letting her go. When the day came, they treated Ellie as she was their own and she passed away peacefully. We were too emotional for words and I will never forget Dr. Becky softly speaking comforting words to Ellie as she passed. Afterwards, they handled her as though she was still alive as they collected a bit of her fur and a paw print, and found her a blanket and tucked her into a little casket so we could take her home. We have 3 other dogs and we will never go anywhere else. They are all amazing there. read more

I went here with friends that had a very sick cat. The staff was very sympathetic to the struggle my friends were going through and did everything they could do to put them at ease. Though we did not have an appointment nor a used the previously for services, they got us in right away and helped they best they could. When their cat passed, you could see that the staff was just as moved emotionally as the owners. Were I to live in the area and have a pet, I would be using them for sure just due to the way they handled my friends in a very emotional time. read more

They are friendly and nice to my dog KC. Our regular vet is Dr. Forden but her schedule was full the day I took KC in for a bump on her leg. They scheduled us with a vet we have never seen before but when we arrived, Dr. Forden saw KC in the waiting room and squeezed her in her busy schedule. She knows KC and wanted to treat her. A friend recommended this practice for my dear pet rats who were sick with respiratory issues. Northgate gave me an appt. just a couple hours after I called, even though I had never been there before. The staff were wonderful, as was my Veterinarian. Not many people deal with exotic pets, so it's sometimes worrisome, trusting their well being to someone else. Northgate has three doctors who have experience with exotics. That's hard to find. Not only that, one of the tech's I dealt with has had many pet rats, and was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, kind, and caring. That helped put me to ease later, when I had them neutered, and one my rats opened his incision. They are quick to get you an appt., and very caring and professional. I can't say enough about Dr. Baker, either. He did the surgery on my rattie babies, and went above and beyond to make myself and my daughters comfortable. He's a genuinely kind and caring man, and I know they are in great hands with him, and the entire staff there. I highly recommend Northgate to fellow exotic owners.
