Bayside Marin is an excellent treatment center, I'd rate it #2 in northern California…read more At first, I didn't want to go here, mainly because of negative reviews and hearsay from an acquaintance, and corporate ownership. But I quickly changed my mind. I came here devestated by a very traumatic year of my life, in as much of a mental health crisis as I was in a substance one. Throughout the length of my stay, I was treated with understanding, patience and compassion. The bulk of their program is cookie cutter evidence based, but high quality. The employees at Bayside really care about their work, and their clients, and because of this it didn't have a corporate feel, even though they're owned by Acadia. What made this stay extra special for me was the therapy and one on one conversations I had with staff. I had the honor and privilege of working with the best therapist I've ever seen. When there's a true match with therapy it can be magical, spiritual. I have transformed into a better version of myself because of the one on one work with my therapist, whose intelligence, wit, patience, and compassion helped me to rise above and shine, despite facing some extremely challenging triggers in residential this time. When you can't fully care about yourself, sometimes you can borrow someone else's faith in you until you're able to care about yourself a little more. By the end of my stay, I felt more confident and centered than I had in a long time. I also wanted to say, the tech supervisor helped guide me psychologically and spiritually as I faced various challenges at Bayside, and helped revive my interest in spirituality, meditation and awakening. I had the best spiritual and psychological support I could have asked for, which I thought would be impossible after being at Olympia House in 2022. (Both are good rehabs with their unique strengths and weaknesses. I learned a lot at both, but they're not directly comparable, OH is a little more unique in terms of approach and programming. Bayside was extra meaningful because of the particular therapist I worked with, the behavioral technician supervisor I mentioned and the particular clients I bonded with. They actually listen to client feedback and I watched them make numerous improvements over the three months I was there. With that said, there is room for further improvement. Clients are shuffled over to the main campus from detox with very little explanation of where to go and when, which leaves freshly detoxed clients confused, angry, and feeling disrespected. I've been told they're working on fixing this problem. Scheduling glitches do happen, but that's true of any medium or large rehab. They do their best. And also, sometimes communication can be a little complicated between departments. No place is perfect. Gorgeous campus. Food was great. I was told this was a rehab for rich people who valued aesthetics over content, but that's not what I found here. They have some incredible talent working for them and client socioeconomic backgrounds are mixed. 2026 update: I've had to return to Bayside and things have only gotten better, taking my review from 4 stars to 5. A lot of mediocre therapists have left, replaced by excellent ones, and they have made subtle but noticable improvements to the programming. I'm SO grateful for Bayside Marin, one of the finest treatment centers in northern California and perhaps the country. Last. I would encourage people, strongly, to ask to change their therapist if the initial assignment isn't a match. I did, and it made all the difference in my stay.

This is for the San Rafael location which strangely doesn't seem to have reviews on it…read more My child has a diagnosis that requires skill and care, Paradigm has neither of those. My daughter was given an administrative discharged after less than two weeks. In those 12 days she did not shower, brush her teeth, and staff claimed she had an eating disorder, was self harming, and was a risk of walking away. Upon admittance I tried to explain her auditory hallucinations and how they affect her behavior. She was eating outside to avoid overstimulation, has a compulsion to pick at scabs (which they deemed self harm, but did not address the wounds or encourage self care, her wounds were undressed and she was never given kind words or alternative ways to cope). The only time I heard of their concerns was an hour before they decided to discharge and transfer to a higher level of care that they claimed to have arranged which was an absolute farse. We were turned away when that facility said she was not a high risk and they did not have a bed. All of the factors the director and staff at Paradigm used to "qualify" her for a bed at this facility were not factual, just their assumptions... very bad ones. If 0 stars was an option, that is what they would get. My daughter left more at risk than when she was admitted. I was not prepared to have her home and she was not stable on medication which was the whole point of her admittance to Paradigm. It took a week to get medication started at Paradigm even though we had a plan and it's effects were not yet seen upon their discharge of her which is proof of their incompetence. Especially the way it was handled. Their skill level did not meet the needs of my daughter. My daughters psychologist was absolutely disgusted at the treatment we received by Paradigm.

While here, I appreciated my sessions with my counselor and therapists. I was able to connect with the clinicians in the unique ways a residential setting allows for, and I grew to trust them with things I'd never previously opened up about. I also enjoyed many of the activities including art therapy, adventure therapy, swimming in the beautiful pool, acupuncture and cupping, horticulture group, and the clinical groups. I made connections with the staff and residential manager as well. Over the course of my time here, Newport became a home. In its safety, I processed my traumas and gained self confidence. I am doing well today because of my experience here. With all of that being said, this place was not perfect. The food was awful, and as someone with ARFID, I often went hungry. They made accommodations for me but took their time in obtaining food I was able to eat. Some of the staff were not the best fit for the job, causing us as clients to feel un-cared for while certain people were on shift. This location was short a therapist while I was there, and gaps were filled virtually, which was very challenging for me. Overall, I would highly recommend this location based on my experience. However, I am aware that the company is currently experiencing some structural changes that may impact its current quality of care. If you choose to pursue treatment here, I hope it is still as healing for you as it was for me a year ago.

Newport Bayview has amazing therapists, some amazing CC's that you can really bond with, they also have a school session time that is very amazing especially if u were doing college classes like me. The food was good from time to time but they always would accommodate for you if you had any allergies or any dislikes. The house is beautiful and you get to go on fun group outings as well! Newport was the first residential I have ever gone to and it was one of the best experiences when making a leap into recovery with my mental health and addiction. Since leaving Newport I have also been able to stay sober and have noticed a change in my happiness as well! I have also been out of their care for over 3 months now and to this day I still talk about all of the fun experiences I had while being their, all of the staff that i miss and just how well they treated me. Newport Bayview was hard going to at first but I don't regret my stay at all, 10/10 would recommend

During COVID, she became very ill and was placed on hospice. After caring for her at home for 9 months, we were advised to find a long-term care facility. I briefly placed her at another facility in San Rafael, but knew within hours it wasn't the right fit. Finding South Marin was a turning point. My mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer, kidney failure, and dementia. The care, compassion, and respect she's received here have been exceptional. A special thank you to Kelly, the social worker, who is knowledgeable, supportive, and truly cares. Carina, the activities director, is also wonderful and brings so much kindness to the residents. All the nurses, assistants, and staff have been wonderful. I never imagined putting my mom in a SNF, but I feel very lucky she's at South Marin. As a former long-term care volunteer ombudsman, I also want to add some perspective. I've seen reviews mentioning delays in care. The reality is that staffing shortages are a widespread issue across the industry due to policy and funding challenges. That said, the staff here consistently do their best under difficult circumstances. Based on both my personal experience and professional background, I can confidently say South Marin Health and Wellness is a top-notch facility. Thanks team, I appreciate all of you!

Their PT (what she tends to need most) is terrific - the PT therapists seem to experience little turnover as the same individuals have provided PT for my mom over several stays. Rehab isn't fun, the facilities are all really busy and frustrations are inevitable. But we will keep requesting South Marin when my Mom needs it b/c it's the best around.

I hesitated for a moment to put my personal business out on Yelp of all places, but when I saw the ridiculously wrong, personal spite motivated reviews I thought I should say something. The clinic works within the boundaries set BY THE STATE. These rules are changing. IT IS MUCH EASIER TO GET TAKE HOMES NOW, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A JOB OR DISABILITY. They are enacting harm reduction in a way I haven't seen from any other clinic. You don't have to be "clean" to get help. They will meet you where you are. Are they perfect? No, nothing is. But I'd like to say to the review complaining about having to go every day: would you rather go to the clean, safe clinic that is always there or spend your day hunting down a dealer who sells you something that might kill you? Your choice. They will get you help, they will get it paid for if possible and they will treat you very kindly. What else could you ask for? Save your own life.
