I was very impressed with the production and the fact that the drama teacher acted as a mentor and the students did everything else from director to producer to set and prop designers. It made me realize that this is the ultimate support of local art and education. For the price of the ticket, the Husband and I had a wonderful evening watching a well done production of The Secret Garden and for $1.50 more we shared a bottle of water and two cookies. Both essential to developing well rounded personalities prepared to deal with the real world. If you are a planning to live in this school district definitely check things out for yourself, but don't discount GW just because its a "city" school.

Now, my husband (also an RMSEL graduate) and I are looking at the school for our kindergarten-aged child. While RMSEL has grown and changed over the years, I believe its core values remain the same. The key takeaways I received from my time there are life skills that have followed me into adulthood and served me well in my career--resiliency, problem-solving, and independence. The expeditions were life-changing in so many ways: they offered my first experiences with developing countries, and they required a level of self-discipline that shaped who I am today. We currently have friends whose children are in kindergarten at RMSEL, and we love hearing about their experiences. Small class sizes, meeting children where they are, and introducing expeditions at such a young age are key reasons we're excited to return as a family. As a teenager, RMSEL was a blessing to me, even when I didn't always see it that way. Returning as an adult, I could recognize how the expeditions build resilience--even when the students themselves don't yet realize it. This school pushes kids to step outside their comfort zones, and many won't appreciate the benefits until years later. The very things I resisted as a teen are now the things I credit most for my personal growth. Our family has been at Stanley since 2019, and we now have a unique perspective: a Pre-K student, a…read moresixth grader, and a recent Stanley graduate who is a freshman at East High School. Stanley is known for being joyful, warm, and child-centered--and it absolutely is. What can be less visible is how intentional and academically strong the education behind that joy is. Our oldest has been the best evidence for us. He transitioned seamlessly to East, placing into advanced math, English, and Spanish and taking honors-level classes. But Stanley prepared him for much more than coursework. He left understanding how he learns, how to advocate for himself, how to take academic risks, and how to make thoughtful decisions about what he needs to be successful. We're seeing that same development with our sixth grader. His teachers know him deeply as a learner. They have worked to understand how he processes information, scaffolded challenging concepts in reading and math, taught him strategies, and partnered with us to help him reach his potential. He has become a confident self-advocate, both academically and socially. And now, in Pre-K, we're seeing where it begins. Our daughter's teachers are calm, loving, and incredibly skilled with this age group. There is joy and play, but also structure and purposeful, age-appropriate learning. She loves going to school. After watching one child complete Stanley and thrive in high school, choosing Stanley again for our youngest was easy. The joy and academic growth aren't competing priorities at Stanley--they reinforce each other. The result is children who are prepared academically and, just as importantly, know themselves as learners.

Plus, it's a good way to burn off your fast food lunch you probably scarfed down during lunch period. Enthusiastic staff, fantastic teachers, and a quality education. My favorite classes were in the art building. Huge art rooms, fantastic theater (which professional companies would sometimes rent out), music and choir rooms. Such a fantastic building with student artwork hanging on the walls. I left this high school very prepared for college because I had teachers that challenged me and expected me to always bring my A-game. Go bruins!

Nearby, the shopping and restaurants fit a college campus. DU has a lot to be proud of and the city of Denver gets the benefit of favorable recognition of the school's championship teams in ice hockey, skiing, lacrosse, and gymnastics. The law school moved on to the campus several years ago and it continues to thrive since doing so. The neighborhood around the school is well maintained and safe. This college punches above its weight.
