We had some time to kill this past Monday afternoon, so we decided to head to lunch at the Northside Kitchen. The folks at the nearby urgent care recommended it. It's a different set up. Kind of like a casual restaurant diner, but with a bar - that is mostly wines. We had wanted to sit out on the patio area but they closed it before the dinner crowd (we were there at about 2:30pm). Little disappointing but ok. The food was pretty good. Took a little while to come out, and the restaurant wasn't that busy. We weren't in any hurry so it was fine. I had a breakfast burrito. It was great! My boyfriend had the curry chicken salad. He said it was a bit dry and had to ask for mayo. Food was a little overpriced (both the burrito (with no side) and the sandwich were about $11.95 each). Best part - 1/2 price donuts lol. We grabbed a couple for the next morning. The takeout bag said locations in Avon, Dubai, London, Paris.... I had to think for a moment. It's a joke... but a cute one :) read more

Great spot in Vail..had been a stop in a food tour we did last year. I had the lemon grass mussels- outstanding broth and the bread they serve with it is the best ever. Generous portion too! The service here is absolute crap (e.g. long waits to be seated for no good reason, the waitstaff illegally sticks glass pint glasses directly into their ice bin to scoop ice, your water glass doesn't get refilled unless you remind them to) but HOLY CRAP this place has serves the BEST Huevos Rancheros known to mankind. The Huevos Rancheros here is a masterpiece. It starts with the special shallow huevos rancheros skillet dish that it is served in. Think crème brûlée depth but oblong and about 10"W x 5"D. This is incredible at keeping the huevos rancheros warm and in a very mixable palette. Get your eggs over-medium, ask for BOTH red & green sauces on top (both are house-made and full of jalapeños and are great together) and splash with a bit of hot sauce (they only have Tabasco and Cholula) and you will be thinking why isn't all huevos rancheros this perfectly architected? The service issues are clearly a reflection of bad management, but the kitchen has not been affected (yet). If you're lucky enough to get your order in, the food comes out right and fast. read more

My friend and I ate the Huevos rancheros and the Egg Benedict at the Avon location. I give an A+ on the Huevos Rancheros, but a D- on the Egg Benedict. The Egg Benedict was so salty that I was going through sodium overload all day after eating this for breakfast. I know that Hams are usually salty, but this was another level of saltiness. I wanted to enjoy the meal but couldn't because the saltiness was too overbearing. My apologies in advance, but if you have a cardiovascular condition, I'd advise you to not eat this. The Huevos rancheros was so good and addicting that my friend and I were satisfied with the meal and were happy that we got this with the egg Benedict. Really nice up beat atmosphere and excellent food. This place has good professional service, friendly staff and good food. We have been there several times now and it is consistently good on all levels. The place reminds reminds me a bit of the Hitching post in Buellton CA. Remember the bar restaurant in the movie on Sideways? Maybe its because its got a down home feeling and lots of good bottles of wine behind the bar and strategically placed near the entrance to the dining room. Really good food! Very much worth the drive from Vail if you have a car. We showed up without a reservation and they sat us at the bar. We ended up liking it because the place was very busy and it just felt safer to be facing in a direction where there were no fellow diners. Everyone that works there are very nice. We started with a tomato-red pepper soup and an onion soup. They were both delicious, but the onion soup was a big surprise in that it was lighter than most, but in a very good way. Then an ox tail and elk fettuccine with burrata and a lobster and shrimp risotto. They were both delicious and the portions are nicely sized and plated. My only observation is that the burrata was refrigerator cold - it cooled the part of the food where it sat and it did not have a nice mouth feel to eat warm fettuccine with very cold creamy cheese. The chocolate cake was the perfect final touch. We tried to go back 2 days later and we couldn't get a table or the bar. Make a reservation or call in advance so you're not disappointed. read more

Disappointed for the second time in a row! These guys are famous for supposedly making the best doughnuts in town, however, the one I just bought a few minutes ago is greasy, bland, and has absolutely no sweetness to it!!! I am actually going to make some glaze at home to make it better. On top of that, the girl at the counter doesn't smile, say good morning, or anything! I wasn't coming in for small talk but politeness and a smile go a long way! At more than $2 for a simple, glazed doughnut I expect perfection! I spent a couple of days in Vail this past week, and was looking for an alternative to the overpriced options within the bourgeois town proper. Enter Northside Coffee and Kitchen, located in Avon, about a 10-minute drive west. A friend and I came here near the close of lunch hour (lunch officially ends at 4:00pm). The place was quiet, but they were still happy to serve us. The menu has eclectic diner food, and breakfast options are also still available at midday. My turkey BLT, sans bacon, was tasty, though the turkey was a bit too salty for my preference. Sandwiches are served on homemade bread that you can also purchase at the front, next to the glass donut cabinet of wonders. Prices are a bit steep for the final result (sandwiches are $13-14), but you'd pay far more in Vail. Next time I would skip the sandwich and opt for a breakfast burrito, which looked like it had a Colorado twist with green chili sauce. We returned the next day to pick up something I'd accidentally left there, and the place was insanely mobbed--a totally different flavor from our quiet lunch. It's almost a ritual to have breakfast here either when just getting in to Avon or when I'm already in Avon. It's busy non stop! Walk in. Look up at the screen. Order and you will be given a number and wait for your number to be called. While waiting you will notice their huge donuts and some other pastries. In the meantime find a table while you're waiting and look around. Their mimosa here comes in this huge tall beer glass. Mild to medium booze content. I've eaten here several times and almost always it's something simple like eggs and bacon and toast. It's always good. Fast service. Tip: the number on the wall isn't always going to correspond with the kitchen calling out the numbers. 34 might be called ahead of 29. So pay attention. read more

Last time we were here, we drove by this place and didn't get a chance to try it. Back in town, without reservation we decided to have brunch before hitting up the town of Vail. The place is not full service, which is just fine. A simple process of ordering and picking up your meal awaits you. Make sure to grab a customer ticket, which is located on the back wall above the kitchen window. The drink pick up could use the same system, as a couple of times we didn't here our drinks being called out, leaving the drinks just sitting on the bar until I noticed them. The menu has many solid options, but The Fillet Breakfast Burrito seemed like a good thing to try, I don't see many of those around. It was gigantic, made with four extra large eggs and 3 ounces of steak! I only managed to eat half of it, and brought the rest home. The server was extremely nice but I have never had such a bad experience getting breakfast. We ordered an eggs Benedict and asked to make sure the eggs were poached medium from the beginning. First the eggs came hard, we sent them back and then they came almost completely raw. With two send backs, three tries and nowhere close to medium poached eggs. The waiter told the manager and he was actually quite rude. He suggested we get scrambled eggs when we ordered a Benedict. What restaurant manager would suggest ordering something that is so different? I shouldn't have to order something I don't want when your chef should be able to make what's one the menu and cook something as simple as an egg. The manger, himself delivered us the eggs again completely raw. He said he watched the chef which for him, is even more embarasing. He then charged us for both the breakfasts. Clearly this guy is a bit full of himself and shouldn't manage a restaurant if after three tries the eggs can't be cooked to normal satisfaction. I am not exaggerating when I say that after the third try the eggs had zero structure and were almost completely raw. He also should have been more hospitable and at least taken off one of the meals from the bill, especially since the eggs were left completely uneaten. We were quite polite and apologized for being picky even said I would do two fried eggs. Instead I left still hungry and paid around 16 dollars for a breakfast that was inedible!! If you want breakfast in the valley I suggest Cafe 163 they will cook the Eggs right from the get go and the manager is way more hospitable. read more

With extreme effort in not sounding cliche I will refrain from listing everything I ate and how it ranked or how the prices were either fair or exuberant for the amount of food you get. What I will inform you of is the fact that this place is unequivocally one of the best restaurants in a 100 mile radius. Visited the Avon/Beaver Creek area the last week of July and my family and I ate here two times; a third attempt was made for a 2nd dinner but they were super busy and we didn't have a reservation. We were greeted by a gentleman that appeared to be the owner by his laid back attitude and Key West Jimmy Buffet'esque attire, He was charming and welcoming and made numerous visits to our table to chat and joke around with my 6 year old. That visit was for dinner and boy what a magnificent dinner it was. We had steak, risotto, short rib and cheeseburger and each was mouthwatering and melt in your mouth delicious. Second visit was breakfast the following morning and hell, I ate so much I almost went into a food coma. The portions are massive but worth every artery clogging bite! We had cronuts, donuts, breakfast burritos, croissant breakfast sandwiches and the "piece de resistance" item was their Eggs Benedict. Holy Hollandaise sauce Batman; what a masterpiece that was. The eggs were masterfully poached, the smoked grilled ham that was layered under the egg was absolutely orgasmic and the hollandaise sauce was literally the best I've had in my entire life and I'm 52 years young so I can assure you that I've had gallons of the creamy concoction in that time. I ordered the ribeye and my partner ordered the filet mignon, both with a demi glaze sauce. We tried each others and have voted to go with the filet mignon as it had way more flavor. The ribeye was a bigger portion but lacked taste. We both had garlic mash potatoes that really did not have a taste to it either. Although, the veggies we actually particularly delish.
