I went here for about 6 months and felt connected. I stopped going because they were encouraging my child to give most of their pocket change to the church!! I mean, who is that desperate that they bring kids into giving money. Overall, I loved going there. My kids absolutely loved the annual 6 week "Movie Night" program and so did I. It's what brought me there in the first place! Preaching is good, morals are good, some sketchy stuff going on behind the stage. I am giving this review as quest of some relatives that are regular attenders at this church. My review is based on a single visit. When reviewing a church....I'm looking for a couple things: 1) do they present God's word in an accurate and effective manner, 2) does the worship atmosphere bring me closer to God and 3) did the operations and people ministering to me as I enter the place of worship reflect God at work in them. Based on these three criteria....I think Northview Church is an outstanding church body. On this visit we rolled into the parking out about 5 minutes before service started. We attended the 11am Sunday service. There was plenty of parking open. We were able to get from our car to in side the facility easily. The facility is very large and spacious. It seemed very clean, organized and well signed. We were greeted by smiling faces and welcomes. We felt welcome and wanted. The auditorium is large with three levels. We sat on the lower level. There was plenty of seating open as we found a seat. The seating was very comfortable. The auditorium is designed so most seats feel close to the stage. The worship time was very organized and very professional in presentation. The music reflects a contemporary top 20 Christian style of worship. These songs are very familiar and make you feel at home. The vocalists and musicians were very talented. The lighting and visual presentation was outstanding. As professional and well done as you would find at a rock show. The campus pastor did a very good job sharing announcements and information in a way that drew you in. The senior pastor presented a very good Bible based and accurate message. His message was very well organized and presented. The visuals on the screen and props on the stage effectively drew you into his Gospel message. The senior Pastor presented the Good news of Jesus Christ. His style was very relational. If you are searching for a good Bible based church...I would encourage you to give one of the Northview campus sites a try! read more

This is such a large place with a disc golf course, cross country path, and basketball courts. I loved how the disc golf course was so wide and open. No chance for the discs to get lost in any bushes or trees along the side of the path, haha. read more

We drive 35 minutes to get to the church but it is worth every minute. The people there are very friendly. The series of sermon by Pastor CJ are so real. He teaches about the Bible times and then brings it into your daily life. Even though I have not been able to participate in the groups there is something for everyone. read more

After attending Northview for three years I now feel compelled to change my review. I was still hurt and had a wall up from former church relationships. Somethings from my first review are still accurate, but some have changed. Worship: Worship is my way to get into the spirit, my way to get plugged in. So I love the worship at Northview. Matt our new worship leader is great! Very glad he is here with us. Kids: the children's ministry at Northview is by far the best I have ever seen! I can't say enough great things about it. They have so much to offer and so much for the kids to participate in! The only thing I wish was different if that 7th grade and up start sitting with parents on Sundays. I think that's a little young still. But hey... gotta pick and choose your battles. Preaching: Lead pastor Steve Poe is probably one of the best if not the best speakers I have ever heard. You can tell he is very passionate and my favorite part is he is real!! He admits his downfalls and doesn't speak to you as if you are lower than him! This church has helped me start the healing process from my inner church war. There are a ton of ways to get plugged in. Including small groups(life groups), volunteering for a ministry, being on the worship team, or even the grounds crew. So check us out! I'm sure at first you will be overwhelmed but by the second or third time you come it will feel like home. read more

Eight years ago my husband and I were looking for a church to call home. We both have opinions so this search was an important one. We probably visited 8 to 10 churches before finding Northview. I still remember the first visit. Not really knowing what to expect we walked into the sanctuary and took our seats towards the back. This is obviously what you do when you want to blend in, not be noticed, and observe. Right? Not at Northview. Pastor Steve Poe comes up to us, welcomes us, and makes us feel at home. Northview at the time was smaller in size but still extremely large. The crazy thing is he knew we were visiting even with a thousand people around us. He also made sure he greeted as many as he could before the service started; still to this day he has a gift for remembering faces. What a warm inviting welcome. This really made an impact on both of us. Eight years later we couldn't imagine being anywhere but at Northview. We love that the messages challenge us and deepen our relationship with God. We enjoy that even though this church is large it doesn't feel large. We were observers for several years and then we decided it was time to get involved. Our first step was taking Alpha which is a class that includes a great meal (a sit down 3 course meal, it's AMAZING) and a discussion about the Christian Faith. It's a great class for anyone who has questions and want to discuss anything in an open inviting environment, from someone who has never stepped foot in a church to someone who has been going their whole life, any question can be asked and is encouraged. After Alpha we took the Connections Class. Here you learn the history of Northview then have a meal at Pastor Poe and Sandy Poe's home. As you can see we like to eat at Northview. Then, we got connected in a Life Group with people who we laugh with, encourage one another, grow together, and I see being life long friends....and that is when this large church took on a small church feel. In addition to all of the above I love that Northview is big about serving, connecting, and making an impact in the community locally and globally; from donating food to food banks, to packing meals for Kids Against Hunger, to helping build homes with Habitat for Humanity, to serving at Wheeler Mission, to working with AIDS orphans in Africa, to working with survivors of sex trafficking in India, to just helping your neighbor rake leaves, all are ways we can serve and make the world a better place. I love this is so highly encouraged at my church home. I know not every church is for everyone but if you are looking or just curious about church I would recommend visiting Northview. Also, I just realized as I am writing this Christmas is quickly approaching and if you are looking for a church to visit Christmas Eve our service is very special. I love coming to Northview! I've never been one to come to such a large church but felt compelled to come on in since I was new to the area. I love that even though it is such a big church they emphasis God will and word in every sermon. I also love the emphasis on being active and serving. W+2 is a great way to get active and get the most out of your experience here (attend 1 weekend service, a life group and outreach or another way to service) In addition the church offers many services and is a great place to build yourself up spiritually. About 6 months ago, I attended Northview because a friend invited me. At first, I wasn't sure how I was gonna like it, due to its auditorium size (not a traditional sanctuary in the smaller churches), the people or the music. Boy was I wrong! First off, I LOVE the hospitality at Northview. It is NOT JUDGMENTAL like other churches are. It is a multi-cultural, non-denominational church which is great too because I don't really care for churches that are largely one race and doesn't appreciate diversity. Secondly, Pastor Steve Poe usually delivers the sermon and I love how he gets to the point is done. No political views are expressed, which is a plus. Church should be a therapeutic experience, not a place to align with a political party, deal with issues that I feel uncomfortable expressing in public. I also love how there isn't a swarm of bodyguards around him when he fellowships with the congregation. He along with the staff at Northview make me feel right at home. This is also a church that directly goes out into the inner city and helps families by means of food, clothing, money if they have financial hardships and even build houses. Northview is deeply rooted in the community. There is something for the whole family at Northview. From children, teens, singles, married couples, you name it. Although I wish that Northview could address college age individuals and the young professionals age range (18-35) to get them involved more. I can see Northview as our own Elevation Church (church in the greater Charlotte, NC area) I hope that Northview can have satellite locations on the city's west side and even northeast side. But this is a great start. It is great to be accepted into a church family that accepts in beliefs and culture. I am glad to call Northview Church my church home. I gave it 3 stars because I know many people who love and cherish this church, and it does help them live faithfully. However, it isn't for everyone. My husband and I gave it a try, and it felt like a "production" more than a worship. While the message of the service was nice, and everyone was really nice to us, the music, to us, was corny and loud. The sanctuary is a giant auditorium, and I felt like I was at a play put on by a large Christian school. We couldn't wait for the obnoxious music to end, and we definitely didn't feel like this was a church for us. I have to say, though, I loved the coffee shop/book store inside. I would go back for that. But, we'll be seeking a more calm and intimate church than this one to call home. read more

I will admit, I was critical of this church before I ever walked in the door. I was sure that I was not going to like a big church and I was sure that I would not agree with the practices of this big church. I WAS WRONG! As I was getting into the car after our first visit here, I was eating all of my words of criticism that I had just spoken a few brief moments before service. We have not missed a service since that day! Each week I look forward to coming back and hearing some great relevant preaching, and some great enthusiastic music! I enjoy how everything that is done here, is done FIRST CLASS!! There is a great attention to detail and it is obvious that what is presented to the people has been long thought out, studied, and prayed over. I have enjoyed coming here, I have grown closer to the Lord here, I have grown closer to my wife here, and I have grown to love coming to church all over again! Northview has been my families home for 8 + years now, and we love it. We were invited by my sisters to attend after moving to the Hamilton county area, and it was different getting used to the largeness, auditorium seating, concert-like environment and the modern christian music; however, we are 110% converted now. We have grown to love the music, as k-love Christian radio plays, adore the pastoral team, and are involved in different areas of serving. I think it takes time, don't give up, and the spiritual nourishment we receive from Steve Poe the lead pastor, is a God gift in our lives. Just because a church is large doesn't mean you get lost. The more you put into the Northview community, the more you get out of it 10 fold! Northview now has a satellite church in Fishers, Lafayette, and coming soon is our Westfield satellite. I've been a member of Northview Church for the past 15 years, and it has literally changed, and in some ways even saved my life. There are many great churches in the greater Indianapolis area, but I think you would be hard-pressed to find a contemporary church more unapologetic in its mission to bring a hurting world to Christ. A few years ago, I went through a divorce that sent me to the darkest place I'd ever been in my life. Men from my life group, lead pastor Steve Poe, members of the worship team (that I've served on for 14 years), creative arts pastor Greg Wallace, pastor Mark Crull, the Divorce Care team, and then worship leader Matt Bays SURROUNDED me in prayer, counsel, support and friendship. Whether it was just an hour or two with some of them, or multiple meetings that spanned 10-15 total hours with others, I felt wrapped in friendship, concern, healing, accountability for my own wrongs, and empathy. Northview, a church of thousands of people, wrapped its arms tightly around one little guy who isn't on staff, isn't wealthy, doesn't have influence.......this is how a church should be. Not judged.....healed. Two years later, Pastor Mark Crull played a huge role in my new wife and I blending 2 families crushed by hurt. He did a repeating of vows service for us that had been tailored specifically to the bringing of 2 families together in God's eyes. He could have just read a typical service from a typical marriage, but he interviewed us, explored our situation, prayed with us about it, and was instrumental in helping us forge a new life together with our kids. It was a time of difficulty, new beginning and fjords to navigate through, and he played a key role in helping. The music team, and leader Andrea McAffrey are genuine, talented, loving, fun, and devoted people who seek with all their hearts to present music that will bring others closer to Christ, open their hearts, represent their best effort, and honor God. There was an earlier review that unbelievably described her in a negative light, and as somebody who's served with her for years, I can say without reservation she's about as generous, sincere, warm and unselfish as a worship leader can be!! She's constantly asking the 40-50 people on the worship team for prayer requests, checking on people going through difficult situations, and humbly praying on their behalf. Music is a taste thing, so a person may or may not prefer an individual's voice, but SINCERITY isn't based on a whim. To see a person break down crying in prayer meetings or in front of a congregation because her heart is broken for friends who are suffering, and see her reach out over and over again to petition God for mercy, healing, grace, guidance for those under her watch.......this is exactly what every worship leader should aspire to be! Frankly.....I'm honored to work with her. Granted, the rock style of Northview's music may not appeal to everybody (and that's okay!), but it's of extremely high quality, and done prayerfully with focus on the God we pray to serve. Pastor Steve Poe is amazing, as is his staff. They are available, real men and women who admit their faults, don't preach down to people, don't preach politics, yet are VERY strong, unapologetic and bold in proclaiming truth. As pastor Steve has said when discussing topics that often stir controversy in America today...."It doesn't matter what I think about an issue. We're here to see and proclaim what God thinks." Plain.....simple...unfiltered....truth. His messages are full of scriptural references and not watered-down platitudes. They may not always be "easy" to hear......but then again, we're in church to hear those things we need to hear, and not just what we "want" to hear. If you are looking for a church home and are willing to get plugged into a small group, a project, a type of serving, or attend an Alpha class (that introduces you to the church and features dinner with the lead pastor and his wife!), then Northview will quickly become a place you feel at home. This church SERVES, through missions abroad, inner-city projects, good neighbor weekends........it is an outward focused church that realizes God didn't create us to just gather in a building, pray for an hour, drop a buck in the plate, yawn through a message, huddle and shake our heads.......then not do anything to serve the world. Northview is the church you assume fits into this box that other churches may fit into. My husband was hesitant to even visit but noticed that, even on our first visit, we were welcomed. Northview makes a conscious effort to make the large building small by organizing small groups and helping others connect. They also organize a weekend where church service is canceled and each church member is encouraged to serve in the community. Each time, we're amazed that the place we serve is appropriate and memorable for our kids and for us. I love that Northview follows God's words and goes out into the community and pulls off Good Neighbor weekend so well- I can't imagine the planning it takes! Good Neighbor Weekend is just one of many things Northview does to be a part of the community. As we watch each series come together- it's evident that each service is well planned- using incredible detail and talent from various members of the staff and volunteers yet it's also clear that Northview seeks God and His guidance for what direction to go to reach those who are searching for a church home- not just the members of the church. If you're considering Northview, I encourage you to visit a few services and find someone at the info center and ask questions about the church. There are MANY moments that I can look back and say "I REALLY love our church" but I'm sure other members at NV would agree that if NV doesn't fit you, we pray you find the church home that does fit your family. It's hard walking into a large church and feeling connected. And it's hard for the members to know who the visitors are. That being said, not one person spoke to us as we entered or left. Very sad commentary for a Christian community. The pastor gave a phenomenal sermon so that was awesome. The music makes you feel like you are in a rock concert. I sing and am looking for a church that I can be involved in music. There is no room for that here. The little rock band is center stage and a major focus. It just didn't seem like a "church". Nothing was reverent. I am sure there is much here that is good but it certainly wasn't what we were looking for. read more

You may be impressed at first. Huge auditorium and great Christian music. And the lead pastor is very very believable and charismatic. So many love this church. I attended for years plus got an inside, behind the scenes look. It was (eventually) very eye opening. MANY people are former members for this reason: the leadership's mission is to increase revenue streams and (name withheld) has done a darned good job of it. Do NOT go to (name withheld) with a personal problem or "pain" expecting him to listen. He's great from the pulpit but otherwise cold...just too busy for you. And never expect anyone on staff to check in on you during hard times...even when they are very aware of your situation. You see, they just won't have time for you if you are not a very large donor...or a public figure. Now, you may not see this side of the church for a while because the messages are so very good. But listen closely. Pay attention. You'll eventually understand that making even more money for their pockets is of paramount importance here. Attend long enough and it becomes apparent. read more
