The art house worked with Maybury State Park to have a group of local artists go for 3 days and produce paintings that shows the beauty and places in the park. Most did 3 or 4 paintings in different type of mediums depending on the artists strengths. The group went to the Live @ 5 Reception that opened the exhibit. Tickets were $35 for non members. Appetizers, 2 drink tickets, and live music from a harpist and a flute player from the Michigan Philharmonic. You also got to look at the art, shop the gift shop, meet some of artists and see the awards given out for the top pieces. A pleasant way to spend part of an evening talking to other art lovers and enjoying a cool summer evening while helping out a local organization that supports the arts. Looking forward to the event in September.

Viewing the exhibit is free of charge but donations are welcomed. The current exhibit is "Art That Pushes Boundaries" featuring the work of local artists. In addition to the exhibit, I noticed that a painting canvas kit was available for donation. The art house offers in-person classes including visual art training. Wouldn't it be nice if every town had an art house with exhibits and art education programs like this one? This is a wonderful community resource and I will be stopping by whenever there is a new exhibition.

Much of the food is donated by local stores or restaurants. They get a ton of stuff into their warehouse. They always go through the daily protocol in the big conference room. You are to wear gloves and a hair cover and beard cover for those with facial hairs. Now you can add a face mask to the attire too. You start the event work around 9am and work until 11am to noon. The warehouse job is the hardest. I have sorted through some rough looking potatoes, to water logged and decrepit looking cucumbers and tomatoes. It makes you really appreciate the foods we can easily pick through at the grocery store to get the most appealing ones. Any sign of mold gets tossed. This is the hardest of the jobs, but also the most rewarding since it's labor intensive too. I have also had the pleasure of assembling sandwiches in the kitchen too, with wheat squares of bread, some meat like slices of pork meat of some sort and cheese too. Volunteering your time and energy is greatly rewarding and so helpful to those in need. This is a great center that gives back ro the community. At the end of your day, they will brief you on how many bags or boxes of food were boxed that day. It's the only day big the original big 3 OEMs groups can collaborate and work together side by side without any intellectual property issues too.

A donation of $500 took (5) attempts to get a receipt for tax purposes. Pathetic. My E-mail to him expressing my disappointment in the excessive effort it was taking to rectify my simple request was finally concluded and as far as I was concerned, the incident was closed with no malice. At a later date my presence was requested for a meeting with the New Hope Executive Director and a counselor from PCS counseling. I assumed this meeting was to encourage my involvement in the New Hope counseling process which had been encouraged by the PCS Counselor who was also attending the meeting. To my dismay, the meeting was a blind siding event with the PCS counselor attending as a witness, so the New Hope Executive Director could express to me his dissatisfaction with my E-mail to him regarding his inability to do his job or supervise his staff. The most disturbing part of this situation, was the PCS counselor had no business involving himself in a business or clerical issue with New Hope. As I struggle to deal with my wife's Suicide, I certainly did not need getting blind sided and getting patronized in a meeting by the executive director that wasn't capable of doing his job, with a PCS counselor as a witness. How disgusting. For the record, I gave the board of directors of New Hope the courtesy of a letter explaining all of the above. It fell on deaf ears. Should I be surprised!!
