BEWARE. I don't believe this is a legitimate business. At the very best, they are lazy, unreliable, liars, terrible communicators, and they just don't care. I signed up my son and never heard anything from them after they took my money. I had to BEG them for confirmation. I then received a short email after that just stating confirmation that seemed like it had been written just to satisfy me but contained no details - and their website is also lacking details and made it difficult to know which package to sign up for. I still hadn't received anymore details as we were heading into the weekend before the Monday my son was supposed to start. I again had to BEG for details - calling and emailing multiple times. I finally received communication over the weekend which didn't acknowledge all my attempts to contact them but just said class was canceled because the instructor was sick. Eventually that whole session was canceled, so I asked for a refund. The LIED to me and told me they had issued the refund but upon checking with my credit card company, I found out this was not true. Of course it was at this point that their communication dropped off again and I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company to get my refund. All this while scrambling to find another option for my son for the summer. STAY AWAY!! read more

Extremely unprofessional and borderline fraudulent. Communicated with this individual called Matt for my teen's driving program. Gave me all the details and sold me on the program. Once I paid, there was NO structure. I had to request training material, online trainings, next steps - had to do the above multiple times before it was done. Just the non-behind the wheels process took ~9months. Scheduling the behind the wheel training was another nightmare. We were told 8hrs behind the wheel, then it became 6hrs without getting any money back. The instructor was NEVER available. It's been more than 3months and we have not finished the 6hrs of behind the wheel training. I have email and text message communication back and forth requesting and most of the time no responses back until I threaten or raise my voice. read more

He charged my credit card and I never heard back left a message I finally got a hold of him never started my driving. Do not book here they take your money and never hear back. I payed for the 6H adult class and it doesn't allow me to see the videos, it says the owner has it private and doesn't allow me to watch it. How am I supposed to learn the rules of the road if I can't even learn it? They make you take a test after every video and guess what, you won't know shit because it doesn't load. read more

Once you're done with the class, they won't schedule behind the wheel - you have to keep on them about it. And they don't use those simulators that they brag about in their pics. I do not recommend. The school is good and I can recommend to my friends. My 17 old son passed the DMV driving test on 1st attempt. His behind wheel instructor Jocelynne was excellent, polite, and good communicator. I would give her personally 6 stars on 5 star rating. The only thing the school as whole is communication. John is an amazing instructor. As a first time driver (23yr old) who only commuted his entire life, I was really nervous in the beginning and John put me to ease on the very first lesson. He's such a great instructor whose patient, and very hands on and will show you how to steer and visually show how to use breaks, and is just there every step of the way. Great instructions and great conversationalist when we drove around. Never a boring session. I never felt more confident about driving than when I completed the adult course with him. I felt more confident by the third and fourth lesson and beyond (10 lessons). Highly recommend! read more

Northwestern Driving School on Oakton. As a student there, I can say that the workers were very unorganized. I was unluckily placed with one of the worst teachers. The instructor herself said she was zoning out while students were reading the answer sheet. It's only been 6 hours total with her but I barely know anything from when I first started. She makes totally unrelated comments and wastes so much time. The classroom is very small and tightly packed. On the first day, some people didn't even have seats. There was a constant flickering light and they couldn't get their smartboard to work. Another thing to add, the instructor didn't even seem like she knew a lot of what she was talking about. When a student would ask a question, she would usually either take 3 minutes to answer it unnecessarily slow or she would have to ask another instructor. She tried to make jokes about herself which did not impress me at all. I think that I'll have to self-teach myself because the learning is not very promising so far. I'm here to learn, not listen to their unrelated personal stories. Six hours of this... my patience is wearing thin. read more

My daughter has had her permit for more than 9 months . She competed everything through this company in spring/ summer 2021 . Yet, she still cannot taker her drivers's license test . I have been calling and emailing Northwestern Driving school for over a week. I received no phone call back from this company . I finally received an email where they blame the DMV , and their faulty voice mail system and then tell me that she should try again in 5 days ( no reason or guarantee- because they still claim it's the DMV's fault ). I had two children go through this program and I used to recommend them to people. Sorry, I do not recommend them any longer. Their driving instructors were nice enough but if you pay this company and don't get your license then what is the point ? And we made my daughter pay half of the tuition. My instructor Iva was patient, knowledgeable, and gave clear and actionable feedback (turn 45 degrees sharper as opposed to "turn!"). Having experienced some other poorer driving instructors in the city and being an adult first time driver, I was extremely happy to find a driving school that worked for me. I was very afraid of driving because I heard about car accidents very often. I have practiced a few times before. When there's car coming from the other way I would fall into panic. That's why I decided to take a "formal" driving lesson. My instructor (Theresa) gave me the confidence because the way she taught makes me feel very clear of what I should do. Not only she's helpful, she's also VERY responsible. She took me to drive on the highway because I need to drive through highway to work in the future. This definitely helps me a lot. I bought a 6hr package, and have practiced twice (around 1.5hr each time with my friend) in between classes, and then passed the road test in the first run. Highly recommend this place! read more

I signed up for the driving lesson for my daughter because her lessons with another driving school where I sent my son to were cancelled, I didn't know what to expect when I switched my daughter to this driving school. It turned out that Northwestern driving school is easier to work with than the other one we experienced with my son. It classes are easy to schedule and they are right on top of the schedule, however I have to say that the staff in the Skokie is hard to reach and often not responding to messages. Also, the facility always smells like cigarettes, this is definitely the area can be improved. That's being said , Northwestern driving school provides way more material and information to us compared to the other driving School and the driving instructor is excellent. Shout out to Gus who is a great driving instructor and very easy to work with, I would recommend Northwestern driving School to others simply because of Gus. read more

My instructor (True) was nice,patient and very knowledgeable. After the six hours with her, I've definitely learned to drive with more confidence. My turns and reverse has improved greatly!! And her backing out of a parking spot maneuver technique IMO was easier,more effective and a lot safer than how most people do it. Strongly recommend this place. read more

I went to their office to sign up for classes, but they weren't open even though I came during their open office hours (6-8 PM). It's not like I came in at 6:05 or 7:55, I came at 6:45. I've looked at many driving schools in the Chicago area, but this is hands down the best driving school here. The staff is caring and knowledgeable, and my teacher Teresa is simply amazing. I'm in my 30s and I've always been nervous about driving: I've gotten my permit at least 5 or 6 times but never got the courage to get behind the wheel. My teacher was calm and patient but also confident in my ability to learn, and her lessons were always challenging, never boring, and she made sure I mastered each skill before moving on. She went over all the basics: suburban and city driving, expressways, parking, day and night driving, and, very importantly, she went over the specifics of the driving test multiple times until I was more than prepared. She also provided a lot of useful tips about maneuvering the car that I think many people take for granted but that were invaluable to a beginner driver like myself. My work schedule changed halfway through my lesson set, and she was very accommodating in scheduling lessons. I've seen her teaching old and young students, complete beginners and those who just need a bit of a refresher, and can vouch that she is simply a great teacher. Need proof? NWDS was very supportive along the process of helping me earn my driver's license in Illinois. True was my instructor and she was very nice and helpful all the time. She helped me a lot learning driving skills ranging from the basic ones to tiny tips. She explains things well and you can see she truly cares about you all the time. She even advised me tips to buy cars and how to do the car maintenance even after our final session! :) If you don't have a car, you can also rent the school's car to do the road test. John also advised us how to apply and finish the test at DMV. John and True have been teaching students for a long time so they know the process well. They will help you all the way until you finally earn the license. True also has her own sweet kids, which means that she will be very patient and supportive teaching teenagers too. I loved learning from True and I would recommend learning from her! read more
