I needed some photographic images framed and had just recently moved from Chicago so was not sure where to get this project done. Through a search online, we found Norton's Fine Art and Framing. I'm very happy with the customer service, level of professionalism, creativity and skill of the people at Norton's. Owner Mary Norton shepherded my project and was a pleasure to work with. The project was creating a shadow box using 3 photographic images. The backstory... I'm a former photojournalist and pretty particular about how my work looks. In the 80's I created hand-made Christmas cards by printing 4x6 images of my work, then mounted the prints to 4x6 black mat board, making them a similar size to postcards and mailing them out. My mother-in-law saved all the cards sent her and gave them to my youngest daughter recently. My daughter spoke of her plans to have a shadow box made with her 3 favorites. I decided as a Christmas gift, I would surprise her by framing them. Mary is personable and her knowledge of framing options is extensive. Our discussion included type and depth of the frame, order of the images and type and color of matte board. A deep frame black frame was chosen for the piece. Since it was a deep frame, she suggested having each image at a different depth from the back of the piece, giving the artwork additional visual interest. After working through several iterations of various blacks and grays, I landed on two mats, both the same black with a grain. She suggested the grained mat board be cut in in one direction for the first mat and in opposite direction on the second mat. Since the grain reflected light in different way, the mat boards looked slightly different, but yet are the same mat. The side of the postcard with the postmarked stamp, the address and the Christmas greeting was not able to be seen, but Mary photocopied them at the original size and mounted them on the back of the shadow box. So it showed the uniqueness of the original work. It was a stunning presentation. When my daughter received the gift, she said it was the best Christmas gift she's received. Norton's Fine Art and Framing will be involved with all my framing going forward. I would put their work on par with any art I had framed when I living in Chicago. read more

I used Norton's Framing & Fine Art to frame a water color piece my friend painted for me. Working with Mary was so easy! She guided me in through process by asking great questions to help me create a piece that would fit perfectly in my home based on my current decor and theme. Norton's Framing & Fine Art has been in business for more years than I know, since sometime in the 40s after WWII ended, and is now located on Big Bend in Richmond Heights. They have two friendly dogs named Cassie and Bella, and both are always happy to see me and desire attention and petting from me when I go there. Playing with them within reason is always fun, and I'm always as happy to see them as they are to see me. I have been there often enough that I am on a first name basis with them. Well, technically not first name because I use my middle name and not my first name, which by the way, is not Derek; that's my first name for all you Yelpers who bother to read my reviews. Norton's is family owned and operated, and Doug, Mary and Ty are knowledgeable about framing, art restoration and conservation of different media of art. When needed, Mary will consult other professionals in the local art conservation and restoration profession, so I have consulted them and used their framing services for framing my own artwork and for reframing more than several paintings from my art collection when it's needed. Doug is knowledgeable about local artists, past and present, and is familiar with local art history, too. Consulting with Mary about framing is an artistic process in and of itself because she always makes suggestions and gets out several frame samples and mats of different colors for matching the pieces of art and make them look their best. You will never be rushed, made to feel like you should choose one over the other that you may not want and always considers how the piece will look in the final framing. Other framing places where I have gone are not like than. I have never been dissatisfied with any framing project or results of any of my own artwork that I have had framed or any of my collection which was reframed by them. They are professional in their work and consultations, and the results of the framing will look professional, too. After you decide on the frame and the matte for whatever the piece of art is, Mary will write up the work order and price it, and their policy is to pay about have the cost of it at the initial consultation, so brink your checkbook with you. Every fall, around the holidays and just in time for holiday shopping, they organize an exhibit of invited artist every year. I have shown twice in those exhibits, and always have very wide variety of art and styles for people. They have a website and there is always art on display in the gallery section. Next time you want something framed, give them a try. You just might become a regular. read more

Norton's is a superb framing shop with a highly professional, knowledgeable, and very gracious staff. I needed a framing service for a new pen-and-ink drawing of an old barn. It was to be placed in my decades-old frame made from 100-year-old barn wood from the very barn depicted in the drawing. The old frame was beginning to fall apart.They did a splendid job on this restoration and framing order and Mary advised me in detail about the types of glass and acrylic products available to cover the drawing, describing the properties and merits of each so I could make the best choice for my piece. I can't imagine any other place in St. Louis that could have done as beautiful a job. I will bring all my art work to Norton's from now on. The gallery is lovely, the price was reasonable, and the dogs are sweet and friendly. A joy to visit and a place of great skill and craftsmanship. read more
