We talked about it being a very special partialy done piece. She gave me different suggestions of what would work for keeping the intention of what my mother had started. I called them to ask if they had a notion and the woman who picked up the phone was clearly having a bad day. She complained about how they were "just a boutique store" and they only sold two types of fabric and some notions. Then proceeded to say "I'm sorry that Joanns closed but you're going to have to learn how to drive a little further to get what you need." I was like WOW! Where the hell did that come from?! I told her that was rude to say and she didn't care. 1. I have been quilting for years now and know a lot about the quilting community. 2. For sure I'm going to be driving further now, to no longer shop at your store!!! 3. Don't hate on another store just because your business is slow!! It's probably slow because the customer service is RUDE AF and lacking any kindness!!! Unprofessional. I came in the middle of their working hours to be told "I wish you had called first" as they were trying finish up and leave (it was a Saturday 3 hours before their stated closing time). Gee, I'm so sorry to bother you by coming into your shop to give you my business. I had left a quilt top to be quilted, not some inexpensive sale. Turns out they hadn't even started, which was a blessing in disguise as I was able to ask for my quilt top back and walk out the door. I will not be returning. I'm fine with all kinds of political perspectives but the slogan Let's Go Brandon is troubling and highlights so many things wrong with the current MAGA faction. I always look forward to visiting Not Just Quiltz! This is a local, family-owned business in the historic Niles Canyon area. I am a beginning quilter, but everyone is always very helpful and willing to take the extra time when I have questions. I purchased a pair of high quality (Karen Kay Buckley) scissors here for an animal applique class--which was also really fun and informative!--and they are my favorite scissors for cutting thread or small pieces of fabric with precision. I had a patch embroidered with my daughter's name on it which only took a day to complete which I am very happy about. I was not too pleased that they called right before they were closing to tell me the patch was finished. I rushed out the door to catch them, otherwise I would have had to wait another day. No big deal. I was referred to come here by a friend who got the same patch done. However, I got charged more and my daughter has fewer letters in her name and the size of the lettering's compared the same. I was displeased with this as well. I could have disputed the price, but being so late in the day I just had no energy left to argue a couple of $. I did not see a price chart so I could not justify why I got charged more for the same thing. Mind boggling. read more

Niles is always a great place to walk around. They have a lot of unique shops to look at, like this one. It's predominantly a quilting store for fabrics, but they have bits of other supplies as well. For me, I had a question about thread for repairing a stuffed animal, and the lady working there, Nancy, offered advice for the project I had in mind. She helped me get a spool as well. Very friendly, very sweet. I definitely recommend supporting your local shops. read more

They were very helpful in answering my questions, and making sure it didn't cost too much as I am on a budget. They have a wide selection of basting patterns and thread colors, and work closely with you and your quilt to chose the right one. When I was a kid I was always a little envious of the kids with the monogrammed backpacks, socks, t-shirts, bathing suits, towels, headgear ponytails.... Ok those last two were a joke, but I finally found a reason to get something monogrammed and being a newbie, Not Just for Quiltz was perfect for my needs. They walked me through the process, and I had a tight deadline because I needed to gift my item for an anniversary and they delivered and then some. I recently placed an online order and it came in 2 days. The packing slip even had a handwritten note from the owner. I've been to the store several times, and it has beautiful aboriginal fabrics. They have some fun notions, too, and a while back I bought a spray bottle that I use for Mary Ellen's Best Press and that bottle is the cat's meow, so they have some treasures. If you haven't ever been to this store in person, check it out. It's kind of tucked away, but it's in historic Niles Canyon, which has a ton of fun antique stores and a really nifty museum about the silent movies which used to be filmed there. read more

Hast to be the worst customer service! I walk in and asked a simple question about if they had anything tool to write on black fabric. Already the woman who worked there seem annoyed (as if I was bothering her from her 0 customers). She very rudely asked me question as if I was an idiot and had no idea what I was talking about. As if it would be impossible to help me because I had no business being in there. I don't know if it was ageism or the way I dressed but I could tell that no matter what I said she did not want me there. I began to wait as she was pausing but then said "it's okay if you guys don't have it" I began to leave because of how uncomfortable I was and she says with a yelling voice "I'm trying to think of something!" I was never rude to this woman and I didn't deserve the disrespect I got from her. I'm only writing this review not to hurt there company because it may just be her. I'm writing this to warn others that there is an employee there who doesn't take her job seriously, who will disrepect you, who will make you feel unwelcome and stupid for even walking in. Honestly, I wouldn't even give 1 star. But for the sake of having to put a star, I did. I was looking for a couple of handkerchiefs to get embroidery done, about maybe 10 pieces. Just something simple, like initials. So I searched up something near my house and Not Just Quiltz popped up at the top. So sure! Why not! It's right by my house and considering that they have 4.5 stars it sounded like a plan to me. I arrived there with a friend. We walked in and they just stared at us. Not even a "hello". Just looked at us went back to their work. It was raining and very windy, so when we opened the door, the door didn't automatically close back up. One guy rudely told us to close the door. Uh. OK. Once we closed the door, they just continued back to their work. UH. OK. I had to approach them and say "Hi, excuse me. I just have a question." They weren't even like "sure what can we help you with!" They just looked. I had explained to them what I wanted to be done and by when. Considering the fact that previous customers had said that they got their stuff done pretty quickly (a day and half worth) I thought the day that I needed it by wasn't too much. It was saturday afternoon and I asked if it could be done by monday by closing or tuesday by lunch time the latest. As soon as I said this, the lady basically gave me attitude as if I was crazy for this deadline! "Are you kidding me?? Do you know what day it is?? I have other embroidery projects lined up. No I can't" UH OK!!!!! I just asked. I wasn't forcing her to do it. If she couldn't do the project she just had to simply say tell me politely that it wasn't doable. I was shocked. And confused! I have no clue how embroidery works and if my deadline was not reasonable or whatever, but they didn't need to be rude about it. I just walked away and said "Oh, okay. Thanks anyways." NOT COMING BACK HERE AT ALL FOR ANY REASON. read more

And things could not have gone better. Website was easy to use, navigate and order from. Everything came in good time, exactly as ordered. I needed names embroidered on aprons as a present for someone very special to me, but needed it done quickly because I had three days before traveling to see the person. The staff at Not Just Quiltz not only helped me decide what would look best on the aprons, but they recognized that I needed the job done as quickly as possible. I dropped the aprons off on a Wednesday, and by Thursday evening they called me to let me know they were already ready for pick up. The aprons turned out BEAUTIFUL. Not Just Quiltz did a fantastic job and their input and efficiency was immensely appreciated. Not just quilltz is located in the beautiful part of Niles with all the other nice little stores. My friend and I went there to get some numbers embroidered onto our Members only jacket. The owner lady of the store was very nice and helpful in deciding what we should get on the jackets. It costed us 10 dollars initially and 5 dollars afterwards for the second jacket. We will be going there next time to get our other jackets embroidered. 5/5 read more

Took a pair of slacks here that needed some embroidery work done on a ripped pocket on the back of the slack. Now i do have to say while the work was not completed... it was not due to the fact that Nancy did not know how to do it. She did the best she could to repair the pants(even considering that repair was not her specialty). She mentioned to me that it was not a guarantee and that she would do her best to make it work. needless to say after about a week or so.. i went to get the slacks and talked to her husband who mentioned while she did try her best to fix them, it wasnt going to work out. i was charged nothing since the work was not done.. but i did recieve some really helpfull information on where to get a pair of replacement slacks that would be top quality italian wool for a rather cheap price. I hereby proclaim Nancy to be "The Queen of Long Arm Quilting." She's done truly amazing work on the quilts I have brought into the store. I really value her judgment in finding the perfect stitch theme to accentuate my quilt tops. I go for somewhat quirky multimedia projects and her inspirations for patterns and thread combinations have escalated my work to a much higher level. A recent project required presenting the image of an underwater scene, and she combined multiple patterns to include fish and bubbles - it really pulled the entire project together nicely. Since finding Nancy, I have not taken my quilts anywhere else. She's my number one choice, and I'd rather wait for her, than settle for someone else who can't possibly deliver to her (and my) high standards! read more

I needed some baseball hats embroidered with my name on them. I took them at first to another store at the mall and they wanted some ridiculouls price for them to be done plus a crazy set up fee. Did a search for "embroidery" shops in the area and "Not Just QuiltZ" popped up. They are close to my work so I went there during lunch. They are located in the old town Niles which is a quiet area and sometimes forgotten. Anyways walked in and talked to Nancy and she said that they could do the project for me with no problem at all. Price was very reasonable and so was the one time set up fee. She said next time since I'm in the system I do not need to pay the set up fee anymore. Dropped the hats off on Friday at 11am and on Saturday 5pm she was calling me telling me they were all done. I was surprised and happy. They came out perfect!!!!!
