I started sending my older two daughters here last year and it has worked wonders for them. As a preface I will say that my oldest daughter Alyssa (grade 4 now) has severe ADHD and anxiety issues. My middle daughter Breanna (grade 2 now) has dyslexia. Mrs Tiffany and the scholar factory work so well with both. They both attended private school at st Rita. And with the help and dedication of the scholar factory both had there most successful school year this past year and still are going strong currently. Mrs Tiffany and the scholar factory work diligently and keep constant communication with our daughters school and teachers. It is not easy to find tutors who have the ability and willingness to work with adhd and dyslexic children. And if they do they want to charge extra for the inconvenience it seems. That is not how it works at all at the scholar factory. They take on all kids and do not want to charge you extra for the "special" tutoring. The facility itself is a nice clean cozy place. Lots of books for the kiddos and personal one on one learning areas for the children. Another great thing that scholar factory does is they hold special classes and groups outside of one on one torturing. They offered a learning summer camp that both my kids loved and my oldest Alyssa is currently doing a multiplication facts group that I can almost guarantee Is going to help her succeed this year. In the year plus this place looks like it has grown so much from just being Mrs Tiffany. I've seen 3-4 other tutors getting involved and all have been great to work with. This is in a church, so some of the lessons for the older children will be Bible-centered. It has been the best place for our daughter. I have had several friends grow up in Adventure Club's afterschool care program, then later work for the afterschool care program to finally send their own children to Adventure Club. If that is not a testament to the program, I don't know what is. Henley goes Tuesday-Friday and lights up when she sees her teachers and friends in her classroom. Her teachers are kind, sweet and always willing to answer any questions or concerns I have. There is one particular toddler that stops by every morning to hug Henley's teacher. (The toddler use to be one of the teacher's babies). I love the small sizes (no more than 8 to a room) and the sense of community when we go. Henley is in cloth diapers; this was one of the few daycares we toured that had prior experience with cloth diaper babies. It has a lock system to get into the building. Each parent has their own keyfob or code system. If someone else is picking up the child, they must ring a doorbell to get into the building, sign a sign in sheet and then show ID. However, my husband has been required to show ID, even though he has a keyfob, a few times picking up Henley because the teachers are not as familiar with his face. The outside of the building is equipped with a security camera system. I feel extremely safe having my daughter here.

Their team highlighted an existing program at Leadership Louisville and narrowed it down to our available time on the agenda. Cynthia Knapek was our speaker. She arrived at our meeting site and came prepared with the right balance of energy, storytelling, and data. She was the kick off speaker for our 2-day event and it set the right tone. Programs at Leadership Louisville will vary in length, commitment, and pricing. Besides Cynthia, other speakers offer their services. A couple of months after my Focus Louisville experience with Leadership Louisville, and I find…read moremyself still thinking about and referring back to it. I was impressed not only with the amount of information presented over the 2.5-day program but also the community that Leadership Louisville creates as well as how it seeks and succeeds at being a catalyst for positive change in Louisville. Louisville is so lucky have a nonprofit like Leadership Louisville. But let me back up: Leadership Louisville focuses on leadership development, civic engagement and professional development. And it does this through a handful fo key programs, as well as speaker and training events. I participated in Focus Louisville, which is Leadership Louisville's entry program. It offers "a more complete view and understanding of Louisville, along with a better sense of how to put leadership into action." And through this experience we heard from a plethora of community leaders on issues facing Louisville, including from leaders in the arts, education, economic development, local government, police, education, nonprofits and more. My favorite parts included the walking tour of downtown and the West End by former Councilman Tom Owen (a Louisville treasure), a field trip to a local elementary school and hearing directly from the Louisville Metro Council president and police chief. I thought I knew Louisville, but hearing from so many community leaders, who are clearly passionate about this city and open about its strengths and shortcomings, definitely opened my eyes. And the entire experience left me wanting to be a part of the solutions and work to make Louisville event better -- which I suppose was the whole point. I also think about the fact that my Leadership Louisville experience was only 2.5 days long; I expect that if I took part in one of their longer programs, which go for months to upward of a year, I would be even more motivated. Leadership Louisville's programs do cost a pretty penny. Focus Louisville cost $600, for example. But I was able to get some scholarship funds for part of this. Not sure if this is the case with all of the programs through this nonprofit, but it was fast and easy to apply for a scholarship. Leadership Louisville's recently renovated HQ downtown is also beautiful. It has several great meeting areas that foster communication. I'm looking forward to becoming a Leadership Louisville member and using this facility more, either for co-working or attending events. So like I said, Louisville is lucky to have Leadership Louisville. I'm looking forward to taking part in even more opportunities in the future.

I have driven by headquarters of Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana so many times, wondering, what do they…read morehave here? I finally got to visit recently, and figured some things out. We joked about visiting for cookies (they get that ALL the time), and were pleasantly surprised. We actually used the meeting space in their basement area for our conference which is the perfect space. Great size, with great tables and chairs which was perfect for our 50+ individual group. We learned more about the options available at Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana. The Maker Place area which was established to help inspire more girls (and boys) to explore Science, Math, and Technology was an amazing creative lab with all the tools one could ever need. There were hammers, saws, laser saws, measuring tape, sewing machines, crayons, markers, etc. I mean, you name it they had it. They even have access to a 3D Printer thanks to the Science Museum. They host community events in the room and encourage families to attend. Additionally, they have a great Girl Scout Store in the front lobby to help you get your fill of Samoa-inspired chocolates until the cookie season is upon us again. I was really impressed with this space and can't wait to check out The Maker Place for an event.
