Once u reach the top, very nice what more can be said really? the views are amazing, u can see the entire city from up there. As for the Basilica itself, it's very cool with plenty of mosaics designs & column's, inside the candles provide some light to the dimly lit interior. This was a great stop & for sure worth checking out, even if just for the outside views.

My husband and I attended Sunday Mass here during our honeymoon in Marseille. It is a gorgeous…read morechurch, and the parish is filled with very kind people! While it does not have the same grandeur as Notre-Dame de la Garde, it is an excellent and beautiful example of an old European church and local parish that is not also a tourist attraction. Not to mention that Notre-Dame du Mont is easier to reach (what with its not being situated at the peak of a mountain, and all), and thus easier for Mass attendance for visitors. I had the pleasure of speaking with the priest after Mass, and, just like the parishioners, he was also very kind to us visitors. He seemed pleased to have visitors to his parish from so far away! My husband's French-language skills are limited (whereas I am just about fluent), and even so, the universality of the Catholic church was clear, as he was still able to follow what was going on in the Mass. This Church was very special to me, as I attended a school run by the Visitation sisters here in the U.S., and Notre-Dame du Mont has many markers of its association with the Visitation sisters--besides the image of the Visitation on its facade, the main doors are flanked on the inside by statues of St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane de Chantal. This association also bridged the distance for me, and opened my eyes to how connected Catholics are around the world. I wish we could have attended one of the concerts that were advertised as taking place here, but it is a good reason for people who are non-Catholic or perhaps non-practicing Christian to still take the time to see and support this sort-of hidden gem on a visit to Marseille!

Sa construction a commencé en 1855 pour s'achever en 1888. De style ogival, elle présente de nombreuses curiosités, dont des portes en bronze, des vitraux de Didron, et le grand orgue de Merklin. Chaque année, le dernier dimanche de novembre, l'église célèbre une messe en provençal pour l'inauguration de la foire aux santons. L'église est fermée le lundi matin et entre 12h et 14h30.

Then I impulsively discovered and signed up for a free (please tip) Marseilles Tour; see other Yelp review. A beautiful free cathedral. The second time with the tour and they were holding Mass/service. Ambiance - See pictures. Located near the harbor and built to give a positive impression to everyone arriving on the port. LA MAJOR @ MARSEILLE FRANCE…read more This place is beautiful - the architecture, the details, and every part of this experience was magical! I really loved how it was opened to the public, there was no payment needed and it was easily accessible. The lights are very dimmed and pretty dark - but natural light you can see through. Be sure to wear appropriate clothing (no bikini, no hat, etc). Great experience and would recommend ubering or taking a tour here.
