From the administrators to the teachers to the custodial staff, everyone here is a gem. Incredibly kind, patient, and dedicated. We love attending the events the school holds, which are often for fun but also very often to service the community. We really align with the ethos of both the teaching practices and worldview of Sunny Hollow. A small but important fact: there's a surprising amount of diversity in my daughter's classroom, especially considering the neighborhood. It's been great seeing that and I hope that stays true as she grows into the older classrooms. Something to note: Sunny Hollow is very much a school and not a daycare, even for toddlers. There's a specific ten minute window for drop offs in the morning, and the after school program is from 3:30 to 4:30. They have a specific curriculum for the kids that they stick to. We personally love this, because it's definitely helped our daughter develop beyond what's expected of a two-year-old, and it's actually really nice that we see her as going to school, not going to daycare. A big thing that's been a massive plus: they spearhead toilet training from the get go. A couple months after our oldest daughter started at Sunny Hollow, our second daughter was born. We were (and are) so swamped in trying to take care of two very young kids, we barely did anything with toilet training. Our daughter, because of her guidance at school, started wanting to go on the potty at home all by herself. We're still in the midst of training, but it's been more or less painless. Our youngest daughter is only four months old but we already put in her application to go to Sunny Hollow. So happy to be a part of their community!

Incident where my son had a "bite" open wound on chest and teachers in the room didn't tell me what…read morehappen (had to find out myself) and they couldn't tell me how it happen or who did it. No accident slip was made (till after a few days later but no point of it since no one when wht happen). Director DENISE was very rude and didnt acknowledge the situation at first but wanted to talk about payment on account. When i told her i was disappointed on lack of communication from her she told me to turn in my keys because she didnt think it was a good fit. No apologies from her or her staff (besides the assistant director only person that tried to help) and no sympathy over the fact that my son got hurt and no one knew what happen!!! Very upset and will be handling situation since head director Denise doesnt care. Daycare was nice just wish the director cared about the parents and kids more

The communication between us and staff is always excellent. When we started here, one of my sons cried a lot and struggled with the transition. We were so impressed with how much time and attention they spent to acclimate him. They did many great calming techniques that our pediatrician was impressed with. Now, when we go to pick him up, he runs and hides because he doesn't want to leave! They go above and beyond with both their care and education. I also love that my kids learn spanish culture and language! Will continue to go here and will be so sad when they graduate to kindergarten!(thankfully not for a while)

It pains me to have to write an update on our experience at BCEC that ended up with my preschooler…read morebeing unceremoniously kicked out by the CEO, Leah, while, Tessa, the center director was on vacation. Things at BCEC started out strong and both our kids seemed to be doing really well there. We were happy with the infant and toddler teachers up until the day we left. After a few months at BCEC, my oldest daughter was regularly coming home from the preschool telling us how Ada yelled at her. Then we started getting notes sent home every single day outlining seemingly innocuous 4-year-old behavior. "Didn't want to nap." "Didn't want to sit still during story time." We weren't seeing any of the problem behaviors at home that BCEC was insisting were happening at the daycare. It got to the point where Tessa told us that she thought that our daughter needed to be evaluated for autism. We were shocked. We had no reason to believe that our daughter had autism, but we trusted BCEC because they were spending the whole day with her so we worked with the school district to have her evaluated. This whole time we were in regular communication with Tessa. We were coming in for regular meetings. We were bringing all sorts of tools to school to try to help our daughter follow the rules and schedule. Tessa ASSURED us that if they decided to "refer our daughter out" that they would give us plenty of time to find another daycare for her. When the school district came in to observe our daughter in her class the administrator told us that she spends time in A LOT of schools and she found the BCEC preschool class to be one of the most poorly managed classrooms she's observed. The curriculum was not age appropriate where Ada was expecting 3, 4, and 5 year olds to sit at tables and work on projects for over 30 minutes at a time. And when these poor kids couldn't sit still for that long she would yell at them. The administrator reported that our daughter was actually doing a good job of trying self regulate in a this very loud and chaotic environment, but even when she would try to go off by herself and sit quietly in a corner or under a table, the teaching staff would insist that she sit with the big loud group of kids. The administrator observed our daughter trying to play quietly by herself when a group of boys ran over and started hitting her with pillows which amped her up, but the teacher only yelled at our daughter for running with pillow not the boys who started the interaction. It was so bad that the school district administrator reached out to the executive team at BCEC to offer to provide some training on classroom management. The conclusion was that our daughter does not have autism, probably has ADHD, and the staff in the preschool classroom did not have the skills or desire to accomodate her. It was during this time that Tessa went on a two week vacation and I received an email at 5:30 PM on a Friday night from the CEO, Leah, who we had not interacted with AT ALL on this issue, that they were kicking my daughter out of the daycare and her last day would be the following Friday. Talk about a stressful time scrambling to find another daycare. The whole experience was so traumatic for my eldest daughter that she now refuses to speak Spanish.

When I was pregnant a year and a half ago, we toured all the Montessori schools near our home and work. We decided to enroll our son in the fall of 2015, once he was over his stranger danger/sensitive period. We hired a wonderful nanny in the meantime. She and her husband planned the birth of their own firstborn around our son's 2015 fall enrollment. Mayflower was our top pick and their toddler teacher came highly recommended by an old friend, another Montessori teacher and Children's House owner in the community. We signed up when our son was a newborn, 14 months ago, and waited. We were excited for visiting day this past month, but shocked to learn we were not actually enrolled. I'm a first time mom, but based on my own research and tours of other toddler programs, this was highly irregular, so I reached out for confirmation. The response from their director Nanci was very canned and left me stunned, "Thanks for coming to Visiting Day. Our application process is continuing and we will be making final decisions for enrollment in the next few weeks. There are many factors we take into account to make our decisions and we balance the classrooms by age and gender. You will hear from us by Friday, March 27. Thanks, Nanci Olesen Director Mayflower Early Childhood Center" Rumor has it there were only 4-7 openings for fall 2015. The visiting day we attended last week was an absolute carnival with 40 families and toddlers! I feel the number of attendees was very misleading for so few openings. I hope that this was an isolated incident. We may have fallen through the cracks since we signed up on recommendation from a Montessori teacher before the toddler program even began at Mayflower. We are still really disappointed and terribly inconvenienced by our experience. We are now scrambling to find an acceptable daycare for our happy, healthy 15 month-old boy.
