IPB does the diagnostic for free and they upfront tell you what the potential costs will be. They called to give me a daily update and managed to fix the laptop up very quickly. Well coincidence is a wonderful thing, as I was shopping in Islington and walked right past this computer shop. The sign caught my eye as I passed 'repairs - viruses, software'. So in I went. The guy did not commit himself when I asked for a price to remove a virus, he said it would be 50.00 per hour. He would not give me a top price as he said it would depend. Not much to go on. This could end up costing more than the computer?? I said I needed a price. He then said bring it in and if we cannot fix it we will reinstall the hard drive. I hate that kind of vagueness when it comes to price, you should at least commit to a no more than kind of cost. I doubt I will suggest my friend takes it here, except maybe for a solid quote and be prepared to walk away.

Well, "just in case" happened last week when the sad, little hard drive on my Macbook Air failed. Nonplussed (because I back up regularly like a good little doobie and you should, too!), I walked on over to Londonmac. There I found informative and courteous service. Turnaround was quick and since I didn't have or need an appointment for service, I was well-impressed to get a call that my computer was ready the next day. Price-wise, labour was about £65/hour and while I'm sure I paid over the odds for the replacement hard drive, it was worth it. I think I could've got the drive cheaper online, but was I really going to a) wait for it to be delivered, b) be assured that the drive was from a reputable source, and c) find someone to install it? No, on all counts, especially since the last time I tried to take apart a Mac (just for kicks) all of the teeny tiny screws just about drove me out of my teeny tiny mind! That said, I did ask about a replacement battery for another laptop and the nice woman working there did advise that I could get a cheaper, 3rd party battery online---less than anything she'd have in store. That's integrity. They had some Apple products in store, look to do a roaring trade in iPod repair, and also do data recovery. Out of warranty and lacking AppleCare, I wouldn't hesitate to entrust my Apple gadgets with Londonmac. Thanks to them, I (and my laptop) live to torment Yelp another day.
