There was a line out the front door that moved pretty quickly. Once we were inside the building we saw that they also sell packaged candy and fresh chocolates. The fresh chocolates were delicious but the ice cream is a show stopper. Both of us decided on a mint chocolate chip sundae. Since all of their cone portion sizes appeared small compared to the U.S. we assumed that our sundaes would also be small. I was surprised to see that they were massive. There was a huge amount of whipped cream and a cookie that topped it all off. The ice cream is made fresh daily and is super creamy. The flavor was delicious. The girls working the counter were very friendly and they take American Express.

I think was that the owners were Italian. The current owners are related to the previous ones from fifty years ago. Now onto the sweets they sell, imagine every sweet you can think of from your childhood well it's in this shop I mean from my childhood and including yours oh happy days, I bought " lucky potatoes " and after the first bite I was instantly transported back. 50 years . With the same garish exterior that most of these places have, the sweetie shop has much more in substance than any of its competitors i have ventured, pocket money in hand into. With a whole wall and i mean a whole wall, devoted to jars of loose sweets, this place is a total dream. There is enough sugar in this shop to sweeten an ocean. It will make you feel like a kid who, well, had just been inside a candy shop. And how can that be a bad thing? It is ADHD enducing, but an altogether enjoyable experience. Bains sweet shop isn't expensive and the owner John is such a lovely man, he is so charismatic, passionate and takes the time to chat and pass on his knowledge of making Tablet. He even went the extra mile and sent me the recipe which is amazing! I plan to make it with my niece and hope it turns out half as good as Bains tablet. The kids love it, I love it and I will be stocking up on treats for xmas or buying gift vouchers for a later date. I highly recommend visiting and don't worry if you can't get to the shop you can always order online and buy some of those old favourites from your childhood as a gift for yourself or for someone else you know who has a sweet tooth. Bains literally has all sweets and treats imaginable!

They also sell sweets, crisps, juice, ice lollies, cigarettes, filled rolls and boxes of chocolates. The owners are so helpful and friendly nothing is too much trouble. This shop is a tradition sweet shop that you do not see around much these days.
