I've had their blend in as a guest when I owned my own coffee shop and liked it. Not great, but certainly in the good category. They've a very nice roastery over the road too. so hopes started high. But I don't like the 'staff banter amongst ourselves is more important than you' attitude we experienced as soon as we entered; the one guy not even acknowledging us as we stood there and the second fiddlin' away at some 'urgent' (I've too busy) barista bull-sh** around the machine. I nearly turned and headed to the rather nice Brick Lane Coffee just around the corner instead. So anyway, two flat whites were eventually ordered. We got a bottle of warm tap water to 'clean our palate' but it smelt so like a musty fishtank I decided not to bother. The drinks arrived and each had different latter art (sic!) which was a nice touch I guess. Both had immaculately steamed milk, so they do know what they're doing here. Taste wise I can't say it was amazing, but it was a tad above the average with just a little bitter aftertaste. A hint of caramel was welcome on a mildly chilly Autumn day! So looking around it's stylish but boring in the extreme. The furnishing are good quality and it all works together - like a friends place when they've spent a big Ikea gift voucher without much taste or individuality. It's 'designed', let's say that. No higgledy-piggledy styley at all. Plain. Dull. Wake me up! Wasn't very busy when we went in around 5.00pm, just a few laptop users. No wifi which sucks big time. When I encounter this I immediately feel a business has made the specific choice to major on customer turnover, i.e. dirty cash, rather than customer care. Nude left me underwhelmed. Being at the front of a short queue seemed to have no meaning for the staff who spent five minutes ignoring all of us before serving the person behind me. The coffee is above average, though perhaps not for a specialist coffee bar. Brick Lane Coffee, up near Bethnal Green Road, is much more pleasant, has friendly staff, better music and better coffee. read more

this place has been my second home for almost a year I spent in London. Great coffee, very good brunch and cool atmosphere with quiet, good alternative music. Staff is superfriendly.. their barista gave me a bag of intelligentsia coffee beans she had brought back from the states after she realised I was a coffee-addict and stopped by every day. If you get a chance, do their seasonal supper parties. They're usually around 60 quid for a 5-course meal including wine and all. Food is prepared by The Wapping Project's head chef Cami who is crazy good. Warning, nerdtalk after this: They do roast their own blend now and after some trouble in the beginning it's turning out nicely. Pretty heavy and dense. Their shots are ridiculously thick, too.. they extract about 20ml from 15-17g of coffee and it's dripping out of the naked portafilter very slowly. read more

My visit here was the most wonderful example of hipster idiocy... I was having lunch with someone who was in a rush and asked for their coffee in a take-away cup as they were only going to stay for ten minutes and wanted to take the remainder of their coffee back to their office. 'No, we don't do that' said the member of staff taking our order. 'Why?' Another member of staff (I assume the manager), wearing a London Fields/Nathan Barley uniform with Moscot-style thick rimmed black spectacles stepped in to explain it was ecologically unsound to give us one of the many polysterene cups that were on the counter. 'But if you give us a cup to have here, and then we take a disposable cup for the rest of the coffee, that's even more ecologically unsound.' The answer. 'We don't do it because... it doesn't look nice.' Okay. My companion (who, as it happens, was the creative director of Habitat who have their offices around the corner) stared at me, agog. If you decide to go at a busy time then of course two baristi and one machine can only produce a certain amount of coffee in a certain amount of time. Maybe i should stop reading others reviews before I write mine? Nude is fab, every time I'm in bricklane I'm spoilt for choice with coffee but I always return to bricklane's original great coffee shop; Nude. And now they have a Roastery just 3 minutes walk away! Boy, did we love this place! During our trip last month, Nude Espresso was one of our favorites. The neighborhood is awesome, the food outstanding, and the service was great! Priced just right, and we didn't have a single thing we didn't absolutely love. We came for brunch around 11AM on a Sunday, and were seated very quickly despite a packed restaurant. Great lattes, and an amazing quinoa dish that I can't remember the name of now. Also, be sure to come on a Sunday, and then visit the HUGE street fair on Brick Lane that pops up every Sunday! Equal best coffee in London with the guys at Monmouth. Nude make a proper flat white, stong and smooth - I'd give them 5 stars, but there can sometimes be quite a wait for coffees, and it's at the top end for pricing. Try their bananna choc chip muffins - delish! read more

I must have passed Nude hundreds of times before giving it a go; it's in an overpriced area that's packed out most of the weekend. Silly me, because it's a favourite now and I regularly go out of my way for one of their rich and perfect flat whites. The baristas really do know their beans and blends, and the nibbles are tasty as well (if a bit pricey). It's not just the coffee that's amazing- it's also the little things like the texture of the milk (delicate and, yes, 'velvety') and presentation (your drink is brought to your table by a friendly barista, and you can count on a cute milk foam design). Nude is one of the few coffee stops in London capable of making iced coffees as delicious as their hot coffees, and it's turned me into a bit of a coffee snob (which really is inconvenient in London...). Warning: Nude is packed on Sundays- get in before 11am or visit another day. read more

Great espresso for London. Not quite as good as Sightglass or Fourbarrel in my hometown of SF, but getting pretty close!

I quite enjoyed their coffee and cakes. The ambiance is very nice and we were not rushed at all. People were chilling and reading books, contrary to what Nassim K experienced. I will go again. staff were friendly and attentive and it really is a cute little place. Only criticism is that it can be quite cramped inside. I also disagree with people that would rather go to Starbucks. Where's the coffee in Starbucks? Giant mugs of water with tiny amounts of coffee. Cannot compare Nude Espresso with Starbucks. Nude Espresso is so much better for coofee, cake, food and ambience. Nice coffee. Nice cakes. Not cheap and coffees are smaller than what you'd get at the big chains. read more

I'm in London on a two-week business trip and I work just down the street from Nude Espresso, so I've stopped in several times already. I'm not a coffee expert, but I do love a good cappuccino and Nude fits the bill. I also really enjoyed their mushroom and goat cheese omelet (which is really more like a frittata) with arugula on top. I was disappointed with their ricotta-berry pancakes, though. It seemed like they would have been good, but they were just drenched with way too much syrup and berry juice. If you don't like your pancakes totally soggy (or if you just like to have control over your toppings), I'd ask for the butter and syrup on the side. The atmosphere is cute, the coffee is great, and the food is partially successful, so I'd normally give them four stars. I bumped them down to three stars, though, because they don't have wifi. Coffee shops need wifi. That is a non-negotiable. read more

The Eggs Benedict were excellent (and I generally think Eggs Benedict are overrated) if served unconventionally over bread--good quality bread, mind you--rather than muffins. Cute little place with great, strong coffee. The place gets super packed though, so don't be surprised if the place is super packed. Snatching a table here is pretty difficult and requires some luck and same goes for the service. When I went most recently, the place was full, but the service was great. As far as I can tell the best latte and flat white you can get in East London. You can be confident that you wont need to put any sugar on this latte, its smooth and flavorful. Stopped in for a quick macchiato. Good flavor, not too creamy or milky, with a lovely aftertaste as others have noted. Could have been a bit hotter, but with all that good flavour, a bit cooler wasn't a problem and probably enhanced the tasting experience. I was overcharged by 50p vs what was listed on their menu, but I'll chalk that up to a careless error that I also failed to notice until after I had paid. I have no criticism of the espresso (I haven't tried any milkier drinks). If I were to grade them only on coffee they'd have 5/5. They let themselves down a bit though: Really, really, ludicrously slow service. This hasn't been a one-off. I've been to Nude at least 4 or 5 times in the last 6 months, and every time this has stood out for me. The last time I was there, I ordered an espresso to stay, and sat down at one of the tables. 15 minutes later, when I thought they had forgotten my order and was about to ask them again about it, it finally arrived. They were not busy and had 3 staff behind the counter. If you're tempted to write off that criticism because the extra time makes a better coffee, you're wrong! I'm not comparing them against Starbucks, but against many of the best coffee shops in London. Nude has consistently glacial service compared with the others. The prices are a little steep. Everything seems about 10% over what it should be. This would be much easier to deal with if the service was improved. Staff are variable - a couple are friendly, the rest seem quite dour and aloof. They'll serve you without uttering a word where at all possible. No wifi. Really easy/cheap to fix. Having said all that, if you're not in a rush and you're in the area, the coffee is definitely worth tasting. read more

I went to this place last month and I must say as soon I stepped in I was overwhelmed by the smell of the coffee and I thought, this is a good start. My Girlfriend and I sat down and ordered 2 cappuccinos and 2 Pastries. The Pastries arrived quite quickly but unfortunately the cappuccinos took their time. I usually like to eat the pastry with the cappuccino; it is like having a meal in a restaurant and the wine comes at the end!!! It took 15 minutes and although it was not extremely busy (5/6 people) we ordered a cappuccino not a 3 course meal! Anyway to a certain extend it was worth the wait because it was delicious and also the cup was a decent size not a bucket i.e.Starbuck! Although quite pricey the cappuccino and pastry was very good. We decided to go back after a meal for an espresso; my logic was if the cappuccino that involves a shot of espresso is good so must be the espresso. How wrong I was! Even though it was not busy as when we came earlier we still had to wait! Anyway when the espresso was served, it was cold and very dense quite an anticlimax. I also agree with most of the other reviewers on the appalling service. They can be bothered can't they? It does seem that they do you a favour. Get your act together mate!!! read more

This coffee is pretty decent. I've had better and worse, but in terms of decent coffee around brick lane this is a safe bet. I've tried a few other coffee places around the area and this is better. I haven't had the chance to sit inside as usually get take away and the last time I sat down was when they were renovating and had a temporary warehouse conversion place. read more
